MadWorld interview reveals more on multiplayer, MotionPlus, Man Darts
Siliconera has snagged a short interview with Sega Associate Producer Christopher Kaminski about Platinum Games' forthcoming MadWorld. Topics covered include whether or not the gorefest will support the Wii MotionPlus (it won't, sadly), more of the backstory, and whether the title will accomodate multiple players (Kaminski gave a "no comment" to this one, which keeps our hopes for a MadWorld multiplayer mode alive).
There was also some discussion about "Man Darts," another of MadWorld's ridiculously over-the-top finishing moves -- one that involves whacking dudes with a baseball bat, brutally slamming them into a giant dartboard. Judging by the above screenshot, points can be scored, making this sort of a game within a game. Siliconera's Spencer Yip wondered if this could be played as a party game. "I'm going to go with no comment with that one," replied Kaminski.
Probably the wisest response, but it looks a lot more fun than Game Party.

Hardly great or unexpected information... And what's with people wanting all the games to use MotionPlus? Do you want no game releases until halfway through 2009 or something? Not every game can benefit from it, this could control like No More Heroes or Twilight Princess, ie mainly button presses and simple shakes, which doesn't benefit from MotionPlus in any way. Not every game has to include 1:1 sword (or whatever) fighting just because they will be able to. With that said I do want to see it incorporated in the next Zelda (because the series is in need of a radical redesign, we've had four+ very similar games already), I just gave the last one as an example of game style...

i think the reason many people...including me...are curious about motionplus in this particular title is that it would allow all of the moves showcased to be done in a 1:1 manner, instead of waggle left waggle right to impale someone with the caution sign.

Maybe Nintendo paid them to put Motion+ in it.
... and besides, what could 1:1 hurt?
Fun is fun. And maybe the 1:1 helps. We don't know how, but maybe they'll surprise us.

(Let's hope this doesn't double-post)
Maybe Nintendo paid them to put Motion+. You know, to advertise it more.
And hey, what's wrong with 1:1? It definitely won't hurt anything (other than dates). Fun is fun.
And who knows, maybe 1:1 will actually help in something in the game. We don't know how, but maybe they'll surprise us.
The more they add interesting concepts (THAT WORK), the better.
...let's hope it works.

1:1 in third person with a camera that isn't even static behind the character would be bs anyway. This isn't that kind of game, stop asking for 1:1 in everything people... Next thing you know you'll want it in Street Fighter and Space Invaders...

Go play The Godfather: Blackhand Edition. Go on, I'll wait, it's only $20.
Ok, now that you've played that, and ignoring the other control problems, do you REALLY think that motion controls need to be 1:1 to be fun?
Hell, play Wii Sports. It's not 1:1, but it's still damn fun. Most of us loved the controls before MotionPlus, why the hell is there so much bitching now whenever we find out we aren't going to have to wait a year in order to see a great title come out?

I agree. Just because MotionPlus is out there doesn't mean that every game has to use it. In fact, for a lot of games it would just make the game unnecessarily more difficult if you had to perform certain actions in an exact 1:1 manner.
(On a slightly different topic) I also see a lot of people disappointed that FPS games, like The Conduit, won't be using 1:1. I am really shocked by this as the FPS genre is probably the genre that would benefit least from 1:1. The most important aspect of the FPS genre would be the pointer functionality (and if implemented correctly like in MOH2 or Metroid) it is top notch. Plus for any reloading or melee type actions, current motion sensors are fine. 1:1 would just be unnecessary.

SEGA's got a winner here. An intense single player action game that could have possibilities as the most over-the-top and violent party game
It exemplifies all of what Wii can do, and is targeted at a mature audience to boot

The game itself seems to be violent shit that's violent simply for the sake of being violent. Sadly, many people think gore alone makes things good.

You see violence and gore, I see style and fun. It hopefully has more depth but so far it appears like the evolution of the side scrolling beat em up (Double Dragon) into 3D, and all the different ways he kills people with at least show there's more variety than a punch and a kick like such games usually have, so yes, it does look promising, even if it's bloody and gory.
