Not for Wii, but Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.
Sonic is not even worthy to be on this list anymore.

I'd vote for Deca Sports. Sounded great at first, more sports than wii sports with interactive controls. It could have been a great game. But then we saw how much the developer really tried.
Second for alone in the dark. I still have yet to play the game, but I thought the videos/screenshots story all looked good. But every review has utterely trashed the game to the point where I can even consider it anymore.

Seconded for Deca Sports. My husband was so excited to play volleyball, but he tried it for a little while and thought it was way too awkward and it didn't get any harder as you played more. So boring.

Well, Ninjabread Man was a pretty kickass concept, even if the game was crap. Imagine if it was like a cutesy version of Ninja Gaiden, it would RULE.

Not so much a Wii game, but the latest internet trend to misspell a word on purpose, ie. this title. Seriously, can't we stop this crap?

I expected that response from a 13 year old girl. Don't they write "evar" in their diaries?
So showing your age means you can spell correctly? Hmm, that makes a lot of sense.

I think the title takes the mick out of it more than encourages it, really. But it is only a joke. And I hate how 12/13 year old girls have to be stereotyped in such a way. Oh wait, it's the truth. I guess I'm an exception to the rule. And Kavorka, can't you type properly, please? It's pretty annoying to see people typin lyk dis evry day, like most 12 year olds.

OK, since this took a turn into grammar and spelling, I can't stand it when people "could care less" about something. It's cliche and wrong. If you have to use it, you should say, "I couldn't care less."
Thank you and have a nice day.

I can't stand it when people use "cliché" as an adjective. Something is either "clichéd" or it is "a cliché".

The phrase "I could care less" entered colloquial English approximately 40 years, and it is already commonly understood to mean the same, either in the positive or negative syntax. It is found in print as far back as 1966. I'm only 35 years old, and I started speaking at 1 year old, so both versions of the phrase were already in common usage for 8 years.
(that was actually by some commenter on slashdot, I'm too lazy to rephrase it and anyway he's correct)

It doesn't really matter what people are willing to accept. It's still wrong and doesn't make any sense when you think about it.
From Strunk and White: The Elements of Style:
"Care less. The dismissive 'I couldn't care less' is often used with the shortened 'not' mistakenly (and mysteriously) omitted: 'I could care less.' The error destroys the meaning of the sentence and is careless indeed."

Think of it as sort of an idiom. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiom)
Though we may never meet in person, or even meet again on this website's forums, know that I am using the phrase "could care less" as much as possible just to annoy you and people like you.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. The mini-games have always been a big part of the series, but this went way too far. Whereas before a Monkey Ball had about 6-12 very high quality and deep mini-games, now they had a ridiculous 50! Having to wade through those 50 mini-games, most of the which were awful to the point of being literally unplayable was not much fun at all. Before the game was released someone at SEGA really needed to go through them with an axe and get rid of at least half.

Ok, if we're talking grammar, it bothers me when people write "your" instead of "you're", and vice versa.
But since we're talking games right now, I'll mention Red Steel. The game looked so awesome based on some of the early videos, but then when I finally got to play it, it sucked. And not just cause the sword fighting wasn't 1:1, either. The story and dialogue were pretty terrible too.

No More Heroes FTW.
A game that could've been really good if they finished developing it. Unfortunately we were left with one half of the game that's completely worthless and boring and another half that would seem tedious and boring of the other half wasn't such a complete travesty.

Could you please tell us which half of the game was missing? It seemed like a pretty complete game to me. Quite possibly the best $30 I ever spent on a videogame.

No More Heroes rocks. The main story was completed, just some sidequests were left out. So, if you didn't enjoy the game as it was released, you wouldn't enjoy it if the production was complete.

Gonzo said...
Wow really? If that's the best $30 you've spent, I can't imagine what kind of crap you've been playing.
I didn't say half was missing; I said half was tedious and repetitive and the other half was even worse.
I only wish half of the game was missing: I might have actually liked it if I didn't have to play minigames lamer than the part time jobs they made fun of. Or crash (sorry bump) into cars that must have been plucked from the n64 and benign zombies with no reaction.
But that was what this was about right? Disappointment. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a game than when soon after I finished that first (tutorial) level in NMH and soon realized that what I had just played through was about as good as that game was going to get. And that's my problem, this should've been a good game if they put a little effort into it.

Obviously you took the game too seriously.
How "crappy" it was, was an expression, a mocking of sorts. As if to make fun of --- ah whatever.
If you didn't enjoy it, you didn't enjoy it. Fact is, many people enjoyed it. You didn't have to.

Yea yea yea.
I got the joke but to have half the game be a lame joke?
I'm afraid the real joke is on those of us who spent money to play this game.
Sure its worth a rental for the humor: both on the surface and beneith. But anyone who purchased it got ripped off and any programmer who sacrifices interesting gameplay for a few po-mo jokes in a game that isn't a budget price title, should be beaten to death with his mother's douche bag.

So the developer wanted to make a game he could express himself in. You had a choice to ignore the game as much as an art critic could ignore an art-piece. I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to make the greatest game of all time - it was kinda' obvious in many senses.
There's a bunch of other games that match what you were looking for in that game, even before the "next gen" era. It wouldn't be ground breaking if he made a "great game" that eerily looked like the ones on the PS2.
'sides, the guy's not known for making "standard" games. So it was kinda' expected to be a bit weird.

I'm not sure. Judgement may actually be OK. Maybe not.
In terms of bad games that were good ideas?
Wii Play. Great concept, make a game with a lot of mini games for family fun. But then when you only have about 8 games? Sort of ruined it.
Or Mario Kart Wii. Mario Kart, its simple, but they had to say, "Lets power up the AI! Lets make them able to use all the Items!" Yeah, really smart.

You realize that you can manipulate the AI in VS. matches just not in the Cup Series? You can knock down their intelligence and whether or not they can use items etc.....
The AI is hard at times, but that doesn't mean you can't be better!

It all balances out, though. The AI may have irritating, inhuman aim, but at the end of the day, they are AI, no exploits, no creative thinking

My vote is for the Wii game "The Golden Girls: The quest for Sophia". The controls were horrible! The cut scenes with Rose Nylund talking about St. Olaf quickly became annoying, and the side quests where you try to get Blanche to hook up with some guy and not kill him were shallow and pedantic. Plus Dorothy Zbornak (Beatrice Arthur's character) wasn't even playable! I mean, come on!!! The only thing I liked was the use of the Wii motion controls to eat cheesecake.
Anyway, that's my vote. Thank you for being a friend!

Game: No More Heroes. Great concept, and it worked when you were actually fighting the assassins, but the entire in-between game was piss poor. Ugly environments filled with boring and repetitive jobs. If they had spent another month or two toning up the rest of the game, it would have deserved at least a 9/10.
Accessory: Wii Motion Plus. The reason the Wii succeeds where other consoles' accessories have failed is that the Wii comes with motion sensing as its primary input device. All Wii owners have the Wii remote. But now that some games will utilize the WMP, the market is split into those who have and those who have not. This is ultimate failure to the tenth degree. The WMP will be overpriced and undersupported, a complete waste of resources and a true gimmick.

I've said it before. It won't split the market, it'll simply become another control option, just like Wiimote, Nunchuk, Classic, and GC
Few games will require it like Wii Sports Resort
8-08-2008 @ 12:32PM
Hamster said...
But Mr Khan, look at that list, don't you think that's already far too many control options even without Motion Plus? Wasn't the Wii supposed to be about simplification and streamlining, this is just confusing and cluttering.
Wiimote, Nunchuck, Classic, GC, Motion Plus, not to mention the numerous other peripherals. I'm a core gamer and even I feel overwhelmed, I dread to think what it's like for a new/casual gamer.
I mean look at Brawl (a great game for sure), but I think that having four different controller options not only shows a lack of vision and conviction, but makes things needlessly complicated. Its best control scheme (according to most people, including the designer himself) is with a controller from another console?!? Am I the only one that finds that slightly baffling.
8-08-2008 @ 1:33PM
buffalo_aaa said...
I agree. There are far too many "options" for how to control this once simple little machine. If they are going to use wiimotion plus forever, they need to release new remotes! I would be fine with wiimote V2.0. It would at least simplify things from point X on.
8-08-2008 @ 2:08PM

I think they should have just waited and integrated the Motion Plus design into the remote for Wii2, which is probably due out in no more than 24 months.

Soul Calibur Legends. The idea could have really worked as a free-range fighting game, keeping the SCII fighting engine intact, but reworked for full 3D
Instead we got a half-baked Action game, derivative to the nth degree

How are you people saying Castlevania Judgement when it's not even out yet? Who the hell said Castlevania was PERMANENTLY moving to the fighting game genre? It's not even going to be in the official Castlevania timeline! Calm the hell down about it. it's for fighting game fans. Not a fighting game fan? DON'T PLAY IT.
My choice for worst idea ever is Target Terror for the Wii. Lightgun games are fun, but Target Terror looked bad. Area 51's charm was the cheesy digitized characters and awful voice acting. But Target Terror has no right stealing what made Area 51 a hit. It's just a copy-cat.

Target Terror was fun as hell in the arcades, but the Wii port was rushed as hell. The developers should have taken the calibration and cursor options from Sega's light gun shooters and polished the game a little more, then it would have been awesome.

Uhh, sort of SSX Blur. Just the Uber tricks, really. The concept was good--drawing out tricks--but it was entirely unforgiving and there was no feedback. If my attempts would be outlined on the screen for a second, I could see what I did wrong.
Oh, and normal tricks were just waggle. I got over that when I realized that I didn't care what the tricks actually were as long as I landed.
Still, it was a pretty fun game overall.
On another note, Mario is like the opposite of this thread. A plumber that fights a turtle is the worst idea ever, but it made some of the best games of all time.
