If one was to make an estimation as to the end of the console race today, it would appear Nintendo has things on lock. But, the future isn't always certain, so some folks don't mind coming up with their own guesses as to where we're headed in the years to come. The latest person to toss their 2 pennies into the fountain is former SCEE president Chris Deering. He thinks that come 2011, the Wii and the PS3 will be in a dead tie.How can this be, with the monthly NPD numbers and weekly Japanese sales figures showing Nintendo selling truckloads of its hardware? Well, for Sony, Deering predicts that combined sales of its PS3, PS2 and PSP devices will be around 240 million units, which he also predicts for Nintendo, but they'll have done it with only the DS and Wii. For the Xbox 360, Deering predicts it will have a base of 40 million units.
240 million units, though? That's just lunacy, in our eyes. But, hey, if anyone can reach that figure, it's Nintendo. As for Sony doing it, well, there are a lot of PS2 consoles out there ...
We guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Count me in as well, though I've already got my PS3.
I don't hate the 360. It's just that nothing really catches my eye. Bioshock interests me, but literally 2 days after I became interested in it, it was announced for PS3. Being a longtime Nintendo fan, Banjo Kazooie 3 was another one that interested me... until I saw game play, that is.
And, well, it has to be said:
Sackboy > Mii

Honestly, I'm getting it mostly because of blu-ray and that it can play ps2 games. Oh, and metal gear solid.

wrong. Wii60 all the way. granted ever since I got my 360 a month ago, I have NOT touch my Wii once. I don't even have it, a friend is borrowing it and he keeps trying to give it back. I might even sell it if Zelda isn't announcded soon.
Whatever, I, me, a faceless name on the internet, just think the 360 is better. get what you want I don't care.

like Nebinator, i'm also really wanting the PS3 also in part because of the BluRay capabilities (actually mostly, because i only really spend around 10 hours a month on games, and 20 hours a month on movies.)

It *is* a great combo — that's what I have. Got the Wii first, was a huge PC gamer but I can't afford the hardware updates anymore. Picked up a PS3 for the price of a GeForce video card and I got a Blu-Ray player as well.
The Wii doesn't look so hot in hi-def, but the PS3 sure does!
And might I add, 'Rocky Balboa' is one of the nicest-looking Blu-Ray movies out there.

Does Sony live in the same reality as the rest of us? Or do they just not bother looking at statistics?

This should read:
Former Sony boss (is fired, to instead hire game designers so that Sony has some titles to sell) at end of current gen.
As much as I want a PS3, I've seen very few games of interest. I've seen Sony sell PS2's like crazy, but there were hundreds and eventually thousands of games for it. You don't have Mario, you don't have Halo, and you lost the GTA's early release and now FF exclusivity. You can't compete with Wii without AAA titles, Mr.Chris Deering.
Actions speak louder than PR.
PS3 needs to step up the game library and step down from all this gloating and 'predicting' ridiculousness.
