The real attraction to these Sonic Unleashed scans is what seem to be tiny screens of the Wii version in action, including a couple we've seen and many we haven't. But we found two somewhat ancillary news bits related to these scans too distracting to ignore.
First, the Japanese title for the game is Sonic World Adventure, which ties the new game more closely in with its Dreamcast predecessors. Second, like Bruce Banner, who gained the ability not only to transform into the Incredible Hulk, but also to involuntarily turn his pants purple, Sonic has acquired shoes that change when he becomes a "Werehog." Whenever the moon is full, his shoes sprout cleats.

I usually go to UKresistance to get this sort of in depth Sega/Sonic coverage. This is without doubt the greatest post on NWF. I hope this is not just an anomaly but the start of a glorious trend.
And hasn't Sonic always worn football boots? It started in the mid-90s sometime; I was an on/off reader of the comics when I was a kid and I'm sure I saw it there: but does that make it canon?

My favorite was always his Soap shoes on Sonic Adventure 2
But that might be because Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for GC was my first Sonic game, so i hold the others by that standard

Oh God I miss raising Chao. The most pointless, time consuming thing in a game, yet it kept me playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for years.
I like what they're doing in Bioware's Sonic for the DS and at least bringing the Chao Garden... even if its not how we expected it to be.

along with adventure battle 2, we still have the dreamcast hooked up in our living room for the express purpose of chao husbandry.

Alright, so Dr. Robotnik (I refuse to call him Eggman...) transformed Sonic so he would turn into a wolf at night to help himself do whatever evil plan he has going on... and along the way, he just decides "Hey. Giving Sonic spikes on shoes would TOTALLY screw him over! LETS DO IT!"
I fail to see sense in this game as of now.

First of all, his name's always been Eggman, America's just dumb.
Also, what's different about this and the light shoes from Adventure? Or the change to Soaps in Adventure 2? It's just a stylistic decision, get over yourself.

I don't understand this "I refuse to call him Eggman" stuff. Yes, his original name IN AMERICA was Dr. Robotnik. His original name in Japan was always Dr. Eggman. In Sonic Adventure, Sega pretty much said, "You know what, let's make his name the same in all parts of the world so it's easier for us and them." They did this by having Sonic call him Eggman in jest and eventually used that as the basis for his "new" name.
Nintendo actually did the same thing with Mario's consistent damsel-in-distress' name (hint: not Daisy). Her name "change" to her Japanese name happened right in the opening of Super Mario 64.
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that old game manuals made random crap up for the sake of storytelling.

Okay, Shadow El's comment was not there when I typed mine out. Stupid comment system.
Anyway, to add something maybe-kinda-sorta meaningful to this comment thread, do the shoes really change your opinion of this game? Not the ridiculous name "werehog," the failure of previous Sonic Team games (*coughSonic2006cough*), or the speed-based gameplay that still seems to be missing something from the original Genesis/Mega Drive titles?
There are plenty of reasons to lose faith in the game already, but I don't think Sonic's shoes qualify as one of them. As for myself, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic.

DUDES!!! do the right thing... go to http://www.petitiononline.com/CGSFSU/petition.html and sign the petition for CHAOs in sonic unleased. it's very proffesional where ofer 700 people have signed it...no registration required, it's just a quick 2 minute thing... 700 people is NOT ENOUGH, we need to convince SEGE/Sonic Team that CHAO's can make a game a great game, a great game an awesome game, or an awesome game the mind-numbing type of game that makes you wanna waste your life on it
This game will sell more copies and Make MORE MONEY for sonic team so that they can make other games and then who's on top of the game market??? SEEEGAAAA!!! And then everybody is happy as all get out.
Just sign the petition... at http://www.petitiononline.com/CGSFSU/petition.html and make sonic team get more money, the more money the more games, the more happy people, the more money comes in...ECT.
BUT LIKE I SAID... 700 people is only a fraction of the millions who've played the sonic games. Let me tell you guys something also... what do we all do with the game when we beat the story mode???... put the game in the closet and tell all your friends that game was short...thrilling...and over in a flash... then they play the game without buying it cause the dude who beat it was already over with the game and didn't care for it anymore...there goes $60 out the window with all the other sonic games.
But if people like the game they hog it and there friends think that they don't play enough cause you like it so much and !!! so there ya go, instead of loosing $60, you gain $60, $120 differance.
and imagine if theres some online multiplayer action... in the chao garden... and you can raise CHAOs together with other people, and how fun is that!?!?
Just sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/CGSFSU/petition.html and your done and made a small differance in the game that will make it so much better  thank you
