Sure, there's tons of shovelware on the Wii, but there are some genuine third-party gems, as well.
Zack & Wiki,
Boom Blox and
No More Heroes are just a few of the quality, non first-party titles available on the console. More or less, have you been satisfied with what third-parties have done on the Wii? Do you think they're turning things around when it comes to releasing quality product on the console? Do you think third party titles will never be able to live up to the quality standards of Nintendo's own first party titles?

A few third party are equal or even superior to third party. Here's a list of third party game I own/played and that I enjoyed:
Resident Evil 4
Boom Blox
Okami
Zack & Wiki
Madden 07-08-09
The Godfather
Guitar Hero 3-Aerosmith
Resident Evil UC
Medal Of Honor H2
And there's more comming "soon" like Tales of Symphonia 2. Madworld, The Conduit, De blob, Mushroom Man, etc.

Well looking at my stack of games, the majority are third party: five compared to two. So yeah, I'm satisfied.
Being a Sega head growing up meant I never experienced the Mario 64/Ocarina of time wow moment, so those games have no nostalgic hold on me. They do seem a bit samey - I'm talking about Zelda.
Also, my friends that still own their Wiis haven't really been enthused about by the traditional Nintendo games, whereas games such as Umbrella Chronicles and NMH draws great excitement from them. And my cousin loves Nights, My Sims, and Mario & Sonic Olympics. Aside from Mario Kart I don't think she has any other Nintendo games.

Oh heck yes, I love my 3rd party games: SSX Blur, Resident Evil 4, Lego: Indiana Jones, Blast Works
I there are a few more on my list to get, as opposed to 1st party games. I have all the 1st party games that I want for now. Mario Galaxy, Wii Fit (thanks guys for the freebie!), Smash Bros Brawl, and Mario Kart.

Zack & Wiki was great
Godfather is really good
RE4 = FANTASTIC
Okami, also good
I owned Medal Of Honor H2, controls were great... too bad the game was just another generic WWwhatever shooter, sold it.
I also owned NMH, it was OK. I appreciate what it was trying to do and the controls were extremely well implemented but it became tedious too quick and the camera was horrendous, sold it.
I might eventually pick up RE:UC, even though I'm not a fan of on rails shooters... but I'll probably just save that money for Dead Rising.

Hell no they haven't lived up to my standards. At least Sega's trying, though.
When ONE of them puts out a big budget, AAA level title, we'll talk. Until that time, no. They suck and should be ashamed of themselves.

Although you better have all bought Okami.
That game deserves to be a million+ seller on the Wii more than any other game on the system!

There are definitely plenty of very good third party games out there for Wii. They're not yet a majority of my library, but they're getting there. However, there are too many companies that are either forgetting about the Wii, or neglecting it. Rock Band, with it's severe lack of features compared to other versions, without a good reason (as evidenced by GH:WT and RB2), is a good example of that.
There are some franchises that get Wii releases, but only in very poor form. Soul Calibur Legends, Dragon Quest Swords, and Samurai Warriors Katana, for example. DDR: Hottest Party, although the gameplay isn't really worsened, does a poor job of appealing to traditional DDR fans by leaving out the background visuals (and replacing them with simple dancing NPCs), and having a track list that tries to mix the mainstream of more modern music titles with the obscurity of regular DDR; and winds up not offering DDR fans or the 'casual' market much to like.
There are also plenty of franchises that I'd simply like to see on Wii-- for example, by the time Persona 4 comes out, I'm almost certainly going to have gotten rid of my PS2. I'd much rather have it on Wii.
Overall, I'd say there are some companies that are really trying (such as Capcom), and they should be supported (although it would be hard not to support them, since you'd want to buy their titles anyway), but there are many that simply aren't putting in any effort.

No More Heroes is the suck. I know, I know it's awesome. But it's not. It has the vibe here and there of being awesome but it's just not so cool. But you know what? I'm glad to see it on Wii-- it's not just another sequel. A lot of other people like it, it's not casual shovelware and I do like the art style. Yeah, just got NMH last night... disappointed this morning.
Boom Blox is great though. Casual? Yeah, but great.
Hm. We have Raving Rabbids. Ugh. Crap. Ptooey.
Zack & Wiki is awesome... don't have it though.
That's it for my 3rd party lameness. There's a few I'd like to have but overall-- not enough.
I think the Wii is great-- but the potential is being ignored by NINTENDO as well as 3rd parties.

We also have more 3rd party than 1st party titles in our collection, almost 2:1.
While I don't think third-party has been as bad for the Wii as sometimes claimed, I see two problems:
1) The genre variety of the games is lmiited. There are 1-2 RPGs, 1 RTS, etc. Sports and minigames seem to dominate, with some action adventure.
2) Third party games don't seem to have nearly the replay value of 1st party games. Brawl, Kart, Mario Party, and even Galaxy have high replay. Some third parties do, too, like MoH2.
Bonus) I think 1st party games like Brawl and Kart have a great depth of features and gameplay options. Third party games, especially multiplatformers, seem stripped of some options. Madden 08 is an example of stripped features (while Madden 09 is a hybrid--missing some things the 360/PS3 versions have but adding a couple of Wii features).

My collection is about %70 third party titles. Sega really fell off on the Wii vs. the GC, with too much emphasis put on motion controlls; which I find take away from the fun of the Monkey Ball/Sonic releases. Nights is fun, but more simplistic and linear than the Saturn OG.
NMH is pretty solid, Bully has some cramped controlls but I still love it, Boom Blox is alright, but gets boring/tedious quickly.
I just wish the Street Fighter camp would give us something in place of (if not the same title) SF4!!

the only third party game that i was ecstatic about and i became very dissapointed was Alone in the Dark - I preordered that months ahead of time - got my t-shirt and whatever but then i spent an 8 hour session playing it and became very upset - the controlls are overwhelming - and the gameplay was MEH at best - the graphics kicked ass though

Sure they can, but never will live up to the first party titles.
Why should they? If the critics and fanboys are going to keep referring to games like No More Heroes as "quality" games, the publishers are going to be lazy and continue to throw together a bunch of crap in a weekend because they know they can get away with it.
If they know we're satisfied by crap like NMH, we're never going to see any REAL quality titles.

seriously speaking, i think third parties will continue to igore the Wii. all they really care about is graphics. the 360 and PS3 don't have anything on the Wii besides awesome graphics (have to admitt the graphicon the 360and PS3 are killer). bluray? not so much since the PS2 has DVD and games are long enough AND still have tons of other thinges to do even AFTER you finish a game. i also agree with Kevin Lehnert (a commenter on this post). my Wii is also gathering dust. there are a select good games on the Wii (even SOME casual games are pretty fun), but lets face it. core gamers are what support the big N (core gamers also supported the PS2 and even the original XBOX EVEN in is late apperance) and their what helped the GAMECUBE and N64 make it through their troubled years. problem is that a that time those consoles (the GAMECUBE and N64) were the ones with the most processing power and graphics of their GEN. now that the 360 and PS3 have the most power devs wanna run to them and ignore the Wii. as i said in my other posts (in other articles) graphics aren't what make a great game! its like looking at what you can't touch! sure you can play it, but can you enjoy it?

I'm not hatin' on the wii... but so far the xbox and ps3 have far superior graphics and processing power, yet you say the wii has it hands down? What, exactly, does the wii then offer other than poorly implemented motion controsl?
Staying on topic, I think the wii's third party offerings are better because they at least try to innovate. How many more times can Nintendo remake the same game, give it a different title, and call it new? At least Zack and Wiki and NMH are original w.r.t. their stories or gameplay mechanics.
It seems all Nintendo can do is innovate with Hardware. When it comes to software, they are rehashing the same gameplay mechanics since the late 80's.

first off the motion controls are NEAR perfect. keep yourself leveled with the sensor bar and your pretty much good (cept with those games that occasionaly move the charcter to the left/right on their own). second as i said before graphics don't make a great system (nor do they make a great game) and neither does a processor. i for one think that the wii has just the right amount of processing power as well as just the right graphics. any more and it would sell like the PS3 and 360. just remember we all have bills to pay. also since when does a company shell out more games then third party devs do? never thats when. again!! graphic whores are like thugs. they want what they can't touch. sure they touch at times and even have what they touched. BUT it doesn;t always last long, not to mention that a very large amount of the time they don't always touch. by the by i'm not scolding or trying to insult you. just giving my opinon thats all.

I am so sad to see some people not getting into NMH... no, I don't mean "getting into" the 'wacky' characters or whatever. There was even a time when i thought the came was kind simple and cheap... BUt then I got into the gameplay. I mean, getting into the hardcore HARD gameplay. This game is so well made. It's really a simple-complex game which is balanced out so well.
There is nothing like the NMH rush.. such an awesome challenging game. Play it on hard after you beat it on normal. The game is amazing on so many levels.
Anyways..
About half of my 15+ or so wii discs and my 18 or so VC/WW games are 3rd party.. I think that says a lot about the third party variety, especially since I enjoy most of the titles. Zack and Wiki, Okami, Boom Blox, Mercury Meltdown, Ghost Squad, House of the Dead, Lost Winds, Toki Tori, Contra 3, Devil's Crush are some faves.

My list of Wii third party gold is as follows, in no particular order:
SSX Blur (despite semi-miffed Uber Trick inputs).
Trauma Center New Blood & Second Opinion (both are incredible, must own titles).
Resident Evil: UC (solid on-rails fun).
Resident Evil 4.
MLB Power Pros 07 & 08.
Super Swing Golf Season 2 (not 1, however, because the AI gets way too inhuman far too early in that game for my tastes).
Lego Star Wars: the Complete Saga (great fanboy fun).
Okami.
NMH.
And now, for the near misses and honorable mentions:
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (simplistic but trance inducingly great at times).
Williams Pinball Hall of Fame (perfect table physics and replications make for flawless bouts of nostalgia, despite weak graphics and the lack of anything compelling other than said tables).
Blast Works: B,T & D (build your own simple, addictive shmup).
Kororinpa: Marble Mania & also Mercury Meltdown Revolution (mostly modernized versions of Marble Mania, and there's nothing wrong with that in my book, despite the fact that both games could have used more effort and polish before release).
Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 (flawed, but it was fun to play with my girl for a while).
So far, I'd give them a grade of C+. The sad part is, over a half dozen of those games are available elsewhere on other systems. I think a big part of the problem is that 1) third parties have gotten used to coding one product that can then be fairly easily ported to the other systems, because last gen that was true for all three systems, they were relatively similar in power and control. This time around, the Wii is a very different animal than the other two systems, and devs have to (likely) work much harder to port a project, assuming that they even can. 2) prelaunch, everyone underestimated the Wii. The Gamecube was underwhelming in sales in comparison to the other systems, so everyone was betting on Microsoft and Sony, and put their eggs (resources) into that basket, prerelease. Let's face it, a AAA game takes money and time. The 360 had a big headstart. I think that many of the PS3's big third party titles were probably in developement long before the system's release. Same with the 360, plus they had a decent headstart to begin with. Not so much, with the Wii. I say give it time. There is still a void, but it takes time make a great game, and devs have only relatively recently starting betting on Wii.
*fingers crossed*

There are tons of exclusives mentioned above your post. Either learn to read, or learn what games they're talking about. Additionally, many games are so radically changed from their original versions (mainly through wii controls) that it's hard to simply consider them 'multiplatform', such as Okami and RE4.

Madden is great. Mario and Sonic is lots of fun especially with other people (and especially during the Olympics now). It is very exhausting though. Red Steel was a good launch title. I just got Zack and Wiki and it is awesome (especially if you love solving puzzles).

Being a Nintendo fan, since the beginning of the NES Days. Nintendo at one time had an excellent Third-Party back in the NES/SNES era. Then the Playstation made it's mark on third-party with CDs and we all know that Nintendo stayed with cartridge format for games. Since then it is true that during the N64/Gamecube era Third-Party games were far and between, most hits game on the N64/Gamecube were games from Nintendo. In the day in age Third-Party does matter, whether Multiplat or exclusive Xbox 360 and Ps3 have far well Nintendo on the other hand not so well. Now this is the ticker I am an owner of Wii I own 35 games, 30 Virtual Console Games, 12 Gamecube games and 8 Wiiware Games great collection most of my games are third party games
Nintendo Games
1.Wii Sports (Of Course Fun game still and not I'm not a Casual gamer nor am I hardcore just an Orignal gamer besides I'm 30 been playin games since I was 2)
2.Wii Fit (Good game to get off your feet)
3.Wii Play (yes bought it for the wii remote I admit it but not a bad game just could've been fun like Sports & Fit)
4.Link's Crossbow Training(Game was pack-in with Wii Zapper not a bad game just too short and lack of replay but Decent game at best)
5.Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Excellent Game lived up to the hype as far as I'm concerned best Nintendo made game in a while)
6.Mario Kart Wii (Good but not great as it used to be, fun with GC Controller or Classic, I like the Wii Wheel but better with Controllers)
7.Super Mario Galaxy (Love for this game is unreal, this to me is the best game on Wii if you own a wii BUY This Game, yes I'm a fan of Mario been play his game since his 1st appearence in Donkey Kong as Jumpman)
8.Mario Strikers Charged (Great Multiplayer Game and Online ain't bad neither with this game)
9.The Legend of Zelda:Twlight Princess (Great in every way, One of the best Zelda games but my fav is still Ocarina of Time TP is a great game yes I've beaten it and It was worth playing and might play it again)
10.Metroid Prime 3 (Great FPS/Adventure Best in the Series)
11.Super Paper Mario (Great 2d/3d game and is a homage to the old school mario games with RPG elements)
12.Excite Truck(Good Racing Game this is one game I do recommend the Wii Wheel it got me back into this launch title again)
13.Battalion Wars (Not a bad game, it's actually pretty good)
No doubt that Nintendo can make good games, so here's my third party games and yes I have more titles for third party then Nintendo games isn't it Ironic
14.&15.Guitar Hero III/AeroSmith(Multiplat game, great on the Wii, both games translated very well for Wii, Unlike Rock Band I like both GH and RB but the Wii's Version was so Stripped down I have no choice on Oct.27 to Buy GH:WT and RB2 for Wii won't convince me RB could've been something great on Wii but wii owners got the PS2 version when GH III and GH:Aerosmith were the exact version of the others accept without DLC songs but GH:WT will have this time round)
16.Madden NFL 08 (Good Madden game for Wii, gotta play 09)
17.Medal of Honor Heroes 2 (Good FPS and Online is awesome)
18.Lego Star Wars (Yes I love Star Wars and this game isn't bad it's fun but controls could've been a tad bit better still good game for a Star Wars Fan)
19.Guilty Gear XX:Accent Core (Good 2d fighter play with classic controllers old school fighter at best like SF)
20.Castle of Shikigami (Descent shooter could've been better in some areas but not bad game)
21.Metal Slug Anthology (One of my favs from back in the day Great game for Metal Slug fans and fans of 2d shoot-em-ups)
22.No More Heroes(Underrated Classic this is one of the most original and fun games I've played in a while sometimes it does get old but the humor and violence kept me playing more. One of the Wii Best in the third-Party Hands Down!!!)
23.Rayman:Raving Rabbids: (Fun for a while, but got old too fast but still a great launch game)
24.Red Steel (Descent but could've been better and RS2 need to be everything this was and more, RS wasn't a bad game just a very flawed one the bad outhweighed the good with this game)
25.Okami (Yes I own the PS2 Version as well as the Wii and I must say I was impressed with the Wii's version this is just another Underrated Gem in the gaming industry period, Excellent Game)
26.Zack & Wiki (Great Game and should have a sequel forget sales for a minute, people talk about new IPs this game was new, fresh, challenging, fun, and everything you wanted in a new IP now on to the sales, this game didn't have great sales and to be honest this is probably one of my favorite games on Wii or game in general BUY THIS GAME if u like new ideas done right)
27.& 28.RE:UC/RE4 WII Edition( Two great games for Wii and is very hardcore I must say RE has convinced me that on Nintendo's machine when done right can be great and these 2 games are worth definely RE4 this is my 3rd time buying it since I had the GC and PS2 versions in the past)
29.Harvey Birdman(Decent game, Funny at times just too short I am a fan of the show but no Stephen Colbert killed it for me but not a bad game just lacking in places)
30.& 31.House of the Dead 2&3(Decent On-Rails Shooters like RE:UC but not superior in anyway, Not a bad pair of games and is quite challenging in a way Good game but not great)
32.Ghost Squad (Same as HOTD, good game not great but kills time and mindless fun with Zapper or Quick Shot)
33.Bleach:Shattered Blade (I'm a Bleach Fan Yes, This game was actually not that bad just on the easy side could've been better to be honest the DS Bleach is the one to get, but buy this if you like Bleach just be warned that it isn't great but flawed the lips don't even match the voices and I know Sega could have done better. Good concept with controls just flawed execution on everything else.
34.Dragonball Z:Budokai Tenkaichi 3: (Great DBZ game for Classic/GC controllers, the Nunchuck/remote not so great I got tired of it in about 2 sec. but with the classic or GC you can have some fun with the DBZ characters Underrated gem when played right)
35.Victorious Boxers Revolution (I read the Fighting Spirit Manga and watch the Anime, However this game is flawed on so many levels it's funny but not a bad game like DBZ/GGXX/Bleach actually good concept and good cel-shading to make it like the anime but poor voiceovers and sloppy controls(Remote/Nunchuck I'm speakin about you)
Okay I named all my Wii titles both first party and third party, Now Xbox Fanboys/Sony Fanboys rant saying Wii don't have any games I just proved them wrong if you read clearly Wii can compete but they do need to step third party to compete with Xbox 360 and PS3 that is true. So I can say Yes and No, Yes I'm impressed with my Third-Party titles for Wii for right now and I admit that. However Nintendo need to learn that the die-hard gamers need love too. I don't mind the casual gamer cause everybody wanna complain about shovelware games I'm sum it up like this I don't like shovelware games so I don't buy them simple as that every gamer knows a bad game when they see one. Like for example many hardcore gamers aren't going play We Ski or Cooking Mama we rather it be RE or something new by third-party that isn't casual same thing for a casual gamer they may not play RE and like Cooking Mama that doesn't mean they have to like what we like it's unfair to any gamer. Play what you like to play if it's crap don't buy it.
Nintendo does have a lot of shovelware that does disappoint even me as a longtime fan, they must see that the core gamer did make them the company they are today and yes I think they do besides from them we did get Zelda, Mario, Metroid, SSBB, MKWii, & great 1st Party games so I can't complain I know these titles will have upgrades. Why can't third-parties make new and fresh ideas on Wii that aren't on 360 or PS3 it isn't hard at all. The Wii is a Success, that why so many ppl want to hate on it, when you are on top Haters are going come if MS or Sony was top selling system then it still would be the same and we all know that. Nintendo and Third Party need to just get together and deliver some solid titles for both the core gamer and the casual gamer because the way the Wii is marketed it can't be all core like PS3 & 360 however they can balance by making M rated games for Wii (just like 360 & Ps3) and Still have the casual side.
I'm impressed with some new third party games coming but Third party could use what Wii has brought to the table seem like the only ones trying for the Wii are Sega, EA, Activision, Capcom, Ubisoft (the 3 games I own) Aksys(GGXX & COSIII) and that's it. Sure the Wii graphics aren't the best but Third Parties should be more open minded that's why I like Wii the best this gen a system with a lot of potential but Third party don't want to be original and that's why we as wii owners are disappointed. but Madworld, The Conduit, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Tales of Symphonia 2, Ghostbusters, Skate it, & so many others Third-Party for Wii could come around and do some damage if done right and let Nintendo get together the first party games.
