You'll have to endure some conference attendee's phone call at the beginning of this off-screen Cursed Mountain footage, but it takes place during the seemingly interminable intro anyway. This video contains the first actual images of Deep Silver's horror title, which, at first, only seems scary because the music and the editing tells you it's supposed to be. It's just a foggy mountain, which isn't really that terrifying unless you're there. But then ghosts arrive, and it's generally accepted that ghosts are scary.
Judging by the brief glimpse of an onscreen prompt, QTE-style gestures figure into the combat. Either that is what they meant by motion-controlled combat, or those arrows were on the screen as a tutorial, to help players learn the gestures. There's also a pointer visible on screen, which may just be used for investigating or may also be part of the ghostbusting.

The monastery looked great, though the ice cave did not
Really doesn't tell us much, though

That atmospheric score is sounding pretty dope. The location in the trailer gives a nice isolation vibe, too. I'm interested in what I see so far. Word.

I'll agree that the main character's model is surprisingly underwhelming, the rest of the game seemed to fill the bill.

That looked quite good until the atmosphere was totally shattered by Zora's Domain appearing.
Also, did the "Cursed Mountain" font annoy you? I thought the logo was largely up to par except for the red lettering. It looked like Times New Roman too much.
And the ghosts that I saw being battled weren't that scary--the one that popped up a few times to scream or be breathy or whatever was, but the others weren't.
Oh, and the protagonist was a bit low-quality to me.
Now, to be honest, if I ever buy a horror game, it'd be this one. It looks fantastic--none of that "shoot shoot shoot for hours! FUN!" nonsense. I'm being a bit tough, yes, and mostly over trivial things (except for the part that looked like Ocarina of Time; it was not scary and it appeared quite a bit, so I'm assuming it's a major location).
But I'm being tough because the game actually looks like a high-quality title. It's beautiful; it's spooky. I don't want that ruined by low-quality characters and enemies and frozen wonderlands.

I heave an emphatic and unrestrained "meh". The only way that intro could have been more insufferable and trifling would be if that guy's phone conversation wasn't interlaced, at least it mildly kept my attention.
As for the game itself....
"ooooh! Stock horror-ambience soundscapes and intermittent screamer edits! SCARY!!!11"
In all seriousness, there's a lo of games on my radar right now. Very few of them are Wii titles, and this isn't one of them. In a gaming atmosphere that is already saturated with survival-horror titles, a library that is only going to grow in the coming year, this is likely going to rapidly descend into obscurity, really didn't offer anything compelling at all.
Oh, and uhh, Deep Silver, for the record guys:
It doesn't matter if you have the extraordinary pomposity to repeat the name a staggering THREE times during the SAME TRAILER, the title "Cursed Mountain" is incredibly lame.
Sorry if I'm sounding a bit too scathing on this one, but I just grow weary of all these lackluster Wii games purporting to be something exceptional, go back and read that initial CM press release, they were making thi sout to be the holy grail of Wii gaming. Come on...if its great, I'd be glad to be proven wrong here. But if you have nothing to show as of yet, why even bother?

Ummm...cmdrpwn, I'm not really sure how ANYONE can be so livid about a first time alpha trailer for a game. Its obvious the game needs more work, just like it was for The Conduit in its earliest video teaser clips. I think Cursed Mountain has a lot of potential. I think it looks good. Especially the mountain vistas which is one thing they were really looking to make look beautiful. The game needs more work, sure, but its got the time to do it.
Also, how is the current game scene "already saturated with survival-horror titles"? There are a few survival-horrors out there, but the genre is NOWHERE near as saturated as FPS, adventure, or sports titles. How you can say something like that is kind of beyond me. Heck, I think even music/rhythm games outnumber survival-horror now. THOSE are everywhere these days.

This might be sacrilegious around these parts, but The Conduit still isn't doing it for me, particularly for an FPS. In any case, its initial footage looked far better than this, at least it showcased verifiable gameplay.
As for the survival-horror genre, in the next months we are getting Left 4 Dead, Dead Space, Silent HIll: Homecoming, Fatal Frame IV (assuming it reaches the States), and of course, 2009's presumptive GotY, Resident Evil 5. And if you want to count it as such, House of the Dead Overkill. All these games are being released within the span of 6 months if I'm not mistaken. That's pretty damn saturated for a more inclusive genre like survival-horror.
Anyway, all I meant to say by that was, there's a lot of super-high quality looking zombie/supernatural related games coming out relatively soon. This in part makes me even less interested in Cursed Mountain, as it stands I'm still more interested in Sadness... :/

Then... if that's how you judge if this is being overkill for the survival horror... when is Cursed Mountain coming out?
If it comes out during a time when zero-to-few survival horror games come out, it would make more sense.
As far as I know, no real release dates for this game is out... and I doubt to see it out anytime soon.
If it's timed correctly, you can't complain about that.

If its a super-high quality game, what does it matter what genre its for? :-) I'd be happy with pretty much any game if it fits that description. :-)

Well, in all frankness, I wouldn't care about this game even if there wasn't a single survival-horror game on the radar, the fact that there are several and that they're all of higher caliber (in my honesto pinion) than this one just adds to my point.
And I dunno man, its all subjective I guess, but this game doesn't look "super high-quality" to me by any prism of observation, I would reserve such sterling adjectives for games like RE5 (which I still don't think should ever come to Wii btw).
Again, these are just my opinions, I realize I'm probably in the minority on this one around here, but they're my opinions.
