It's only been three months since the previous Hanabi Festival ended, but a third has already kicked off, bringing us PAL gamers a slew of (usually) fantastic U.S. and Japan-only games that never saw the light of day in Europe or Australia. In the coming weeks, we'll be buying Wii Points for Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (NES), Dig Dug (NES), Spelunker (NES), and DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure (SNES).
This week is Mario week, meaning you're probably going to need to stock up on Wii Points. While Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels did appear for a limited period during the first Hanabi Festival, it's now here to stay forever. That's pretty exciting, but even more thrilling is the appearance of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, a full twelve years after its original Japanese release.
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars -- SNES -- 900 Wii Points
- Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels -- NES -- 600 Wii Points
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES)

I never understood why games would have a late August / Summer release. I know a lot of parents would be willing to put the cash out for games at the beginning of summer, but not at back to school time. The timing of this release could have been much more successful at the end of June.

Here's the thing: Kids get desperate for fun when school starts... and video games seem perfect for them since they can stay home and "do their homework" while playing video games.
:P It's smart.
Besides, the kids can ask the parents to buy them a game if they pass a test.

Yes, North America's VC is the worst of the bunch.
We're missing Dracula X and Super Mario RPG amoung countless others and its just getting more stupid each week.

WHAT? No fair!!! No fair!!!!!
OK, I don't begrudge Europe getting SMRPG, but that had better mean a U.S. release is imminent, or I'm going to start throwing things.

If this was last year I would have full confidence that it would be coming out on the American Virtual Console this Monday, but looking at the state of things throughout 2008, I say we have a much better chance of getting more Master System games that no one cares about on top of more shoddy WiiWare games. Hooray.

Is it just me, or Lost Levels seems even harder than the original mario bros????
I mean, even larger pits, harder to pass, need to perfect timing with some flying koopas or with the wind (remembered me of Ninja Gaiden and Mario Giant Stage on 64)

That's the point!
SMB:LL was originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2. When Nintendo was going to release it in other places, they determined it was too tough and instead released Doki Doki Panic, another Japanese exclusive, with all the original main characters out and Mario, Peach, Luigi, & Toad put in.

Okay this thoroughly upsets me. Everyone one else has Mario RPG except us here in the US. Nintendo give it to us for craps sack already. Show us some love please for the love of Nintendo fanboys nationwide.

I have a (yes, completely illegal) ROM of SMRPG, and honestly, although it's not bad, Super Star Saga is a thoooouuuusand times better, in every way except, arguably, story, and there are no Samus or Link cameos. And if a Final Fantasy fanboy like me is knocking Square, you know it's true.

Super Mario RPG reminds me of Sonic 3D.
Probably the worst comparison you'll read today.

I don't see why you Americans are complaining, since the game was actually released to you guys 12 years ago. Anyway, despite the fact that your VC lists are bad as you claim, the release schedules for regular Wii and DS games for you are much better than Europe and Australia.

Actually, the Wii schedules are just as bad as Europe's. The DS schedules aren't as much.

SMRPG4USA!!! The U.S. NEEDS that game, cuz it's pretty much one of the best snes games there are. Plus Chrono Trigger, which we'll be seeing on DS, so I guess we wouldn't need that on VC as much...
But anyways, I'm hopin' this is a sign of imminent U.S. release!

I think it's great that the PAL regions are finally getting this game, but the US needs this game soon. If we don't get it before October, I'm gotta hunt down Nintendo of America with a bat...or a stick...or tennis racket...
