Latest Sonic Unleashed screens focus on the positives
What the latest screens of Sonic Unleashed lack in variety (they're all taken from the desert level, or one of the game's town stages) they make up for with some fairly rad track design -- track design like this, for instance. There's also a pleasing omission of the Sonic Werehog sections, though that part of the game is, sadly, definitely still real. Make like a blue blur into our gallery for 23 new shots of the Wii version in action. It's looking purdy.

I don't think I'll be buying this. I just can't muster any genuine excitement for this game. It has nice blue skies but something is missing.
Actually, I know what it is. It's saturation. Isn't there another game coming out in April. There was the Secret Rings. Plus the two DS games - though, I'm definitely buying the RPG. And cameos galore.
Too much Sonic. He's turning into Mario or Crash. The main event status is dissipating.

you know the difference between crash and the other two u mentioned? they have games that are good. crash was never good, especially when it just started to copy mario to no end. mario has mario kart, crash has crash team racing. mario (well nintendo) has smash bros, crash has crash bash. MAN I HATE THAT BANDICOOT (and f*cking rayman). anyhu, yea i dunno man i might get it if it, by some act of god gets a good review

We must disagree. I don't care about saturation unless every one of those games you listed starts becoming the same
You yearn for a Sonic that's dead, my friend. He might still be quality (at least in your opinion and my own), but SEGA needs to work him a bit, since they are a software company now. The days of the glorious hype that surrounded, say, Sonic Adventure, are gone.

Looks awful. Needs to get back to 2d, that's the only way that Sonic works.

A little off topic, but I'd like to see a WiiWare version of "Blue Sphere" where you tilt the remote to move Sonic, and shake the remote to jump. I think that the Wii controls would really be great for it.

Blue Sphere was hands-down the best bonus stage they ever conceived
You could play it forever as the standalone game if you put the wrong cartridge in

Day 1 release, unless Nintendo announces Disaster for a date that's too close
Then i'll get it when the semester lets out.
And i'm ecstatic that my fears based on the existence of a PS2 version were unfounded.

I hear so many people say that Sonic games suck, but they aren't all bad. Really, the only one that I think was 'bad' was the X360/PS3 Sonic the Hedgehog. Other than that, they've ranged from fun to mediocre.
For the record, I haven't played a good core Mario game since Super Mario 64. Mario whores himself out to so many different franchises (another damn Mario sports game?), so he gets a good reputation. Sonic sticks to core games for the most part, and people don't appreciate them.
Sonic Heroes was good, but people hated it because it was different. Shadow the Hedgehog had potential, but it just barely missed the mark - it was okay. Sonic and the Secret Rings was good, and so were the Sonic Rush games, as well as Sonic Advance 1 & 2 (I couldn't quite grasp 3).
Everyone just needs to lay off of Sonic for a while. People also need to wake up and see that Mario games aren't always good. Mario Sunshine sucked, Galaxy sucked, and the music in Mario games since 64 has been just awful.

Just curious--how long did you play Galaxy? I'm not judging you or whatever, I just wanted to know. I loved the heck out of it.

Aaaahahahahaha
Hey, I didn't laugh when you said Sunshine sucked. Even though I don't agree, plenty of people did have that opinion of the game.
I snickered when you said Galaxy sucked.
And the music? Laughed out loud. Did you even play Galaxy? Gusty Garden Galaxy had one of, if not the best background tune gaming has ever seen, and the rest of the songs weren't bad (hell, most were amazing). Sunshine had catchy and appropriate tunes as well.

That'd be Wind Garden. Tell me that shit ain't beautiful.
You must be crazy. Or deaf.

Oh, and, for the record, Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance weren't all that good. They would have been if not for the pit-of-death level design and the hold-right-to-win gameplay. Their immediate sequels fixed these gripes (Sonic Advance 2 is one of my favorite GBA games, and Sonic Rush Adventure certainly wasn't a bad DS purchase) but to say those games were good and in the same breath downplay the things that made the recent Mario games great... just seems downright foolish to me.

The first thing I noticed was that this was not nearly as pretty as Sonic and the Secret Rings. The track seems better designed, but I want it to be easy on the eyes as well.
Also, a movable camera + IR pointing on menus = huge improvements. Add them and pretty it up I'd probably buy this regardless if it made me work to get a decent control scheme. ;)

Check some stills of Secret Rings. The only thing keeping the game pretty in stills are the water effects, and I've seen no water from this game yet. Otherwise, the backgrounds were for the most part low poly, the textures were crap, and the shadows were off and pixelated.
Game looked great in motion, though.
Wait until we have some actual vids of this game to judge the quality.

Sega, just say "Werewolf Levels Optional!" and you will see people excited for this game again.
