The end of the world must be nigh, for we never thought we'd see the day where the Wii was outsold by the Xbox 360 in Japan. Sure enough, with Microsoft cutting the price of the console, sales have seen a boost over there. The week ending September 14th saw the Xbox 360 selling 28,681 units, while the Wii only moved 27,057 units. Close, but this isn't horse shoes or hand grenades, kiddies.Aside from Microsoft cutting the price of their console, a number of other factors helped contribute to the Xbox 360 selling so well. For one, a new Square Enix RPG released there this week, by the name of Infinite Undiscovery, and Microsoft also came out with a new Xbox 360 SKU. We're not holding a grudge, though. Microsoft can enjoy their short time in the spotlight. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to go sabotage the jump jets on Bill Gates' diamond-encrusted jetpack.

Nothing to be concerned about, the stars just aligned for Microsoft - a price drop, launch of Infinite Undiscovery, boosted supply after shortages due to Tales of Vesparia launch - it all makes sense.
I'm interested to see what Media Create will show.
Even still, if the 360 can stay over 20k next week in Japan, the PS3 might have something to worry about. The Wii? Not so much.

Oh well. They're still losing money per console sold, and they're still behind Nintendo in total lifetime sales.

It's market saturation. Too many people in Japan already have Wiis, so there's no way Nintendo can keep outselling the competition. Microsoft has sold so few 360s in Japan, that a single RPG can skew the weekly sales numbers for 360 a lot more than a single game could for the Wii right now. When 360 software sales beat out Wii software sales, I'll start paying attention.

Japanese hardware sales are more directly stimulated by software than you see in the monthly NPD reports. As Microsoft gains leverage, expect this to happen every so often. Just as PS3 will get surges when it gets something JP gamers like, and all the big Wii releases will equally generate surges

Everybody should have a wii by now. I guess it's time for it to start slowing down in sales. Heck, with a price cut I think I'll grab a 360.

so Microsoft is out selling ninty by how much.....at least 6000? the 360 has more Core games then the Wii and the Wii still manages to come EXTREMLY close to the 360 sales for week ending september 14th. now what does that tell you? that if Ninty starts cranking out Core games it'll destroy the 360, thats what. heck, i think i'll buy me a 360! been meaning to try out GEARS OF WAR. still.... Wii RULES!!!
