So what should we expect? Well, something on Disaster: Day of Crisis we imagine, but anything outside of that is anyone's guess. What do you all think?

My guess (as you said) Disaster release date. Also announce they are publishing The Conduit. The rest will be casual focus, I'm not expecting any blockbusters.

Probably true, especially with the announcement that The Conduit will use Friend Codes.
My hope against hope, however, is that Nintendo lets the cat out of the bag that with only a firmware update, all Wiis will be enabled with Blu-Ray players and 64 GB SSD storage that's been in there _all_along_, just to give the other guys a false sense of security... :-P

"But, still, it turns out that rumor is true (except the Japan part), as Nintendo will be holding an event on October 2nd and 3rd"
Uh...no. The Japan one is 100% confirmed.

im gonna be the downer in here... i think that nintendo will announce casual shovelware and not impress anybody. Big dissapointments from the gaming community then Reggie will say hey man we have GTA on the DS we love our hardcore fans!
hopefully they do something to interest us though

Big disappointments? Didn't E3 already happen? Nintendo has to provide something of substance to justify this.
9-18-2008 @ 12:24PM
Mr Khan said...
Exactly. Though something of substance might still be something casual, it does, at least, have to be significant
And since our collective expectations are as low as possible already, it'll be very hard for them to disappoint now, unless they literally came out and said "The haters and FUD-spreaders are right! Fuck you core!"

Nintendo hasn't released shovelware in the past so why would they start now?
Just because you don't like a certain genre or type of game it doesn't mean that it is shovelware.

Likely:
Disaster: Day of Crisis
GTA for the DS
Wii Music and lots of other casual games.
Less likely but still possible:
Nintendo is the publisher for The Conduit
Show something on Kid Icarus
Assure hardcore gamers that they have not been forgotten
Not likely (Cue the Infinite Improbability drive):
Wii storage solution
Firmware upgrade to allow DVD playback available for a price.
New GTA title being developed for Wii
New DS model
Inconceivable:
Wii price drop for the hollidays
Wii II
Nintendo decides to use the billions they've made and just purchase Sony.

Why does everyone love kid Icarus so mutch? and Rockstar has mentioned GTA Wii im pretty sure its gonna be made, just not right now
9-18-2008 @ 12:08PM

Because the original Kid Icarus was quite awesome and still, in my opinion, at least, holds up very well.

Nintendo has promised that "new products" will be shown. And Nintendo doesn't lie to us. They may make extremely deceptive statements (cue Reggie quote about maximizing key franchises), but flat-out lies are few and far between
That being said, Disaster is definitely on the scale, as Hurricane Season is mostly over by October 2nd, so it'll be cool for NoA to talk it up. I'm betting they will reveal that they're publishing The Conduit (how else does HVS get WiiSpeak AND motion+ access?), maybe give a date for Wii Sports Resort and a more thorough version of that being shown
Probably discuss localization of Fatal Frame IV and Fire Emblem DS, too.
The "new products," though, remain a mystery. If i had to put money on it, i would choose GDC as the venue for the storage solution, since i don't think they have it ready yet. The alternatives are unknown.

In all fairness to Nintendo, while they did kind of butcher E3, they also got slammed mercilessly by the gaming community. I think they're using this as a sort of attempt at redemption.
Just don't expect too much from them.

Exactly, we deserve a bit of the blame for helping them hype up their E3 so much. In the end, what we expected from them was actually much more than they've ever given at a single show
Even if Nintendo had just gone for the norm, and not for teh suck, we still would've been disappointed

THINGS I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO SEE SOON OR WILL EXPLODE: X 1MILLION
• PIKMIN FREAKING PIKMIN OMYGOD.
• Zelda please... not likely, but I hope so. Seems like the only reason they would hold this is to show things that weren't ready at E3.
• New Mario.
There will definitely be more Wii Music

I'll be honest, I think they were probably saving the good stuff (meaning, for the hardcore audience) until now to begin with just because E3 is more in the mainstream news spotlight. Its a better outlet to get the word about things to the people who weren't hovering over their computers watching and complaining, but instead would read about it in something like the new york times and say "oh, a music thingy for that wii thing". Then they have this conference for the stuff that we actually want (in reality, if most of it is holiday releases anyway it really doesn't make much of a difference)

i am pretty sure Nintendo wont do the same thing they did during E3.
i think they learned from their mistakes, and im pretty sure Cammie Dunaway also learned from her mistakes....
that Cammie.....
i am positive that nintendo will show of the storage solution, no doubt in my mind

Them admitting their suckage at E3 meant they must've really screwed up, since Nintendo usually has their collective head too deep in the sand to realize that sort of thing.

knowing Iwata i'd say something at least explained about mario or zelda's next storyline/premise. Or Metroid 2d wii ware or something like Megaman 9...
Cause Iwata was greatly displeased about E3 i think so he would have been cracking the whip all this time to make something presentable for their own show.
and I still think Kid Icarus

basically what i was trying to say was that they will show games, games that people like, a lot of people. but the fact is that a lot of people that own wii's are casual consumers. Therefore that lot of people and lot of games will be casual or casualy influenced you know what im saying? the only reason people run a business is for money..and nintendo doesn't need to impress the hardcore when the majority of their consumers are casual gamers. The only way they can justify hardcore games would be to keep us around when they lauch the next-gen.... when they actually need our money.

hmmm...Guitar Hero World Tour perhaps..?
Defiantly DISASTER and Maybe even perhaps abit of an insite to GTA China Town Wars.
I didnt mind there E3, only cause i played Wario Land and enjoyed it greatly :D
But still.. something a little more presentable..
Pikmin 3, Kid Icarus, DS remodelled and of course DVD PLAYBACK.
and of course storage, thats proving a bitch.
God of War Wii is my dream, shame Sony wont let it go..

I expect This:
1. A diagram of what the audience wants, and what we will get, with a large emphasis on crushed dreams. Presented by Iwata
2. Reggie Fils-Aime gets up on stage, thumbs through some papers, coughs, says "Core Audience", then leaves.
3. Miyamoto plays a Wiimote like a flute, but now its 1:1 becuase of WiiMotion+.
4. Cammie Dunaway walks on stage after Miyamoto, and reiterates that Nintendo brings more smiles to pretty much everyone, except "those people who play hard games"
5. Laurent Fisher calls us all Otaku, throws thumb-drives into the crowd, and laughs maniacally because he knows they are useless to us.
6. Curtains come down, and the audience commences to cry into their hands, clutching their useless thumb-drives and grasping ever so hopefully to what little dreams they still have.

For the love of all that is holy and hardcore, give me an actual Donkey Kong/Country game(no bongo or gimmicky crap) and I will go out and buy a Wii as soon as I can find one. I know it wasn't the type of game I'm asking for, but I was so freaking disappointed when Donkey Kong Racing was canceled back on the Gamecube.
