This brought us some welcome weekend lulz. Sony recently held a launch event to mark this month's release of the PlayStation 3 in Malaysia, and obviously decided it needed just the right soundtrack to tie in with the event: something epic, memorable, and majestic.
Their final choice was all of these things, but also hugely inappropriate: as Sony Malaysia MD Naoi Sudo ascended the stairs to the stage, the famous Legend of Zelda theme began to pour from the speakers, and YouTube user marauderz was there to capture the glorious event first-hand. Talk about dealing your own company massive damage, eh?

i love zelda, in top favorites, BUT, nintendo's console lacks what i want, so they should fix it. the companies them selves and franchises arn't exactly something i favor over the other but CONSOLE wise, Sony>Nintendo . i love playing SSBB and zelda and everything else, but i need better graphics and DLC

But don't we buy consoles to play games? Therfore a great franchise makes a bigger difference than a hardware element, does it not? Look, I'd love the addition of a harddrive as much as the next guy, but I agree with Sonic 13, I'd much prefer to have Zelda if I had to make a choice.

yes, we do buy consoles to play games. i like to play both nintendo and sony. i like the franchises and games alike, i happen to think at the moment one platform is better than the other. crazy idea that some one who really likes nintendo could like sony too right?

No one is taking issue that you like both Sony and Nintendo. No one cares (or even brought that up).
We're just saying that we'd pick a console with strong franchises over a console with strong hardware features.

Probably not set up by Sony. It was probably a mistake by the people who own or run the place the launch was held. The person in question probably didn't have extensive knowledge of the video game business.

This could lead to good things.
Zelda PS3 would have heavenly graphics and Link wouldn't be right handed... what was that about?
Shadow of the colossus on the wii. The waggle wouldn't hurt it, i'd actually be fun! And Sotc's graphics are already better than most wii games so theres not much work to be done there.

Rollin said...
If it's made by the same people, how can developing it for a more advanced machine actually REDUCE its chances of being a "good thing"? Ask anybody else and that's the collabo of the fuckin' millennium, Zelda and PS3.
9-22-2008 @ 9:51AM
meist3r said...
@Rollin: Simple, because the Wiimote was the best thing that happened to Zelda ever since it went 3D. I doubt you could provide an equally entertaining experience with the PS3 controller. I never want to play another Zelda game and have to use an analog stick to aim the bow. That's just not cool anymore.
9-22-2008 @ 10:15AM
Rollin said...
I will give you the bow, but the Wii remote advantage didn't really go beyond that, am i right? Maybe the hookshot, but less so. If anything, the sixaxis would lend itself well to boomerang throws, i think.
You do have a point with the dual analog, but i have to say, the game shown at E3 05 that fanboys were in tears over was not what Twilight Princess turned out to be. I think a lot of people, Nintendo fans or not, would kill to see Link in some proper next-gen trappings. That franchise deserves nothing less. I'd give up bow-pointing for a Zelda game like that.
Then again, maybe Oblivion already fills that hole.

Personally, I don't think to addition of the wiimote had any real big advantage to the series. I played it on the gamecube first and found it way more fun than when i played it on the wii. I found the wii controls some what of a pointless addition to an already perfect game. I guess it could be considered fun to use the wiimote for the bow but leave that to causal wii games like link's crossbow training, not to engaging games like TP. If they were to make a Zelda for the PS3 people would have the same reaction to it that they had for every new installment for the Zelda series better and more beautiful background and environment. Controls for zelda games are always perfect so people want to see better graphics. So unless the wii can create graphics that surpass TP, then Zelda PS3 wouldn't hurt at all.

Hey,
Not to be confrontational, but I don't think Sony and Nintendo go hand in hand. I think they represent two sides of the video game industry. They also have very different business styles. That being said, I'm truly not trying to be hostile here. I'm just expressing my opinion.
Peace,
manaman

I agree with you in this one, Ryan.
This is a nintendo WII news website, and I do feel some hostility regarding this post. I don't understand how this relates to nintendo wii, even if zelda is made by nintendo.
I dont want to sound rude, but I hope the wii fanboy staff can find relevant stories on slow weekends like this one from now on.

Well you got to admit that the Zelda tune is good. I am suprised though that Nintendo allowed Sony to play this song at the launch knowing their past relationship with each other. Oh well if they didn't then get ready for the sueing to begin.

as an awesomely awesome malaysian i can safely say that the majority of these events are run by 60 year old organisers who can't tell the difference between Halo and Metroid Prime. they probably googled "video game music" or something.
anyway PS3 officially in malaysia?? wow! everyone who would want one already has one actually! a lil late to the party..

I think it's kinda funny that the Sony fans who come here say they sense a lot of hostility, when in reality, this was a really tame set of posts, and is actually a very tame site. No offense guys, but if you want to hear fanboys go at it with sword and sheild head over to Joystiq's comment section. And yes I agree, sony and nintendo are VERY different companies, and I don't agree that they compliment each other at all. Both are great systems, but the chance of you finding people who like both companies with the same undieing love is pretty rare. So, if you go to a Nintendo fan site, expect to see some people who are..um... fans.
I really don't think them making fun of Sony in this situation is very far stretched. And I also think it is VERY relevant to the Wii Fanboy site as it is kind of a NINTENDO game's music. God knows you Sony people would be bashing Nintendo like a bunch of 13 year olds who just learned how to curse if we played Ico music at a Nintendo console's launch. You should consider these posts harmless in comparison to most of what comes out of the mouth of Sony fanboys.
Anyway, hilarious honestly, and while I agree this was most likely an accident (though you never know), this is something to definitely be fired for. I mean, even the crowd was laughing at this one.
