It doesn't look like Square Enix is spending much time on the Wii, but rumor has it that the company may change their tune and throw the little white console one of its favorite bones: a port. Producer Takashi Tokita of Final Fantasy IV The After: Return of the Moon -- the game's mobile sequel -- recently dropped some hints that the game may be making its way here in some form. "Currently [the sequel] is available for mobile phones in Japan. We'll do our best to make this game available for our overseas audiences as well," he said. So your first thought would be the DS, right? Not according to the folks at RPG Site, who tapped mysterious (and unnamed) sources at Square Enix in their quest for more information. The result? Hints that the game may be reformatted for Wii. We would assume WiiWare, but who knows; they're porting Chrono Trigger, after all, without a hint of a graphical upgrade.
Right now, this is the king rumor in all of rumorland, meaning it's completely out there and not too reliable, but it's interesting, to say the least. Have any thoughts on the chances of this one?

Actually, this was something that I thought should have been done myself. When I heard that it was cell phone only I told myself that Squeenix should release it over here on Wiiware since the whole cell phone thing probably wouldn't be very profitable

I think it would be a shame if we got a port of a cell phone game. Those games generally suck. Sonic for the phone/ipod sucks (the controls that made it great now are awful), Castlevania for the phone sucks, and Bomberman for the phone/ipod sucks.

Japanese cell phone games are in a league of their own.

Well, a link to their site that I got from the GameFAQs KHCOM boards revealed the Re:CoM arrival a couple/few days before a press release was made, so despite their use of "Square-Enix", I'd invest some credibility in their tappings. Not a final word, no, but if they say it's a possibility, then whatever's posted is now on the table, get what I mean?
... Got it memorized?
Well, anyway, for functionality, if it's reworked for WiiWare (in the same vein as FFIV->DS and COM->Re:CoM), it wouldn't cost much, I'd think, to re-release it in Japan. I would hope, if such an upgrade were given, that a "Classic" play moe would be included, either on the Wii, as a Download&Play feature, or both.
