Nintendo: Wii Music assists musical education
In what is now a time-honored tradition for Nintendo's first-party releases, Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto came together over a cup of tea and a Jammie Dodger* to have a chinwag about Wii Music. Neither man fell about laughing hysterically at any point in the interview, so we assume the game is actually going ahead.
As usual, Shiggy came up with some corking soundbytes, in between reflecting on the ukelele he received as a youngster and other trivial details. These included the shocking revelation that he had never been so excited while making a game as when making Wii Music -- not even when he was crafting Super Mario Bros. In an even more controversial twist, the conversation then turned to how Wii Music could (in Iwata's words) "raise people's basic level of music education." Not surprisingly, Miyamoto agreed, adding, "I've even thought it would it would be great if kindergartens or elementary schools got Wii Music and began kid's music education with that ..."
So there you go: according to Nintendo's top men, Wii Music could kickstart basic music skills in kids ... by making them play invisible instruments. Eh?
* Awaiting confirmation on this.

As time goes by, i seriously think we're going to be pleasantly surprised
I mean they have to know that what we've seen of the game so far isn't going to raise anyone's awareness of anything, since its mindless. Which in turn must mean that there's some meat in there some where
Either that or Miyamoto finally has gone off the deep end (although that has been said many times, and every time he's been proven right)

I actually see where he's coming from on the education though. As a music major myself (was music ed but decided I just wasn't cut out to teach)
Its not so much that they'll actually learn how to play an instrument, but it exposes them (by them i mean little kids) to the idea of learning an intrument and hearing different styles of music. Later on when they're old enough to join band or start taking piano lessons, they would be more enthutiastic about it.
for me, the game just looks fun

Same say to KeegdnaB, the Wii Music teach you the basics of the music, for explample the styles of music or basis to play instruments, and the principal; motive the people to compose music nad create original melodys.
And, the game see very fun, not dificult, but the entertairment the play instruments its very funny, specialy in short learning curve. I love create melodys, in Wii Music finaly play my melodys!

^^ Agreed 100%.
Miyamoto may be a legend in his own time, but the things he and Iwata are implying are nothing short of pure conceit.
Ultimately, if the only way to develop children's interests in learning music and playing an instrument is via a "video game" -- a term I use quite liberally in regards to Wii Music -- then clearly their parents and their teachers have failed.
