One of three things is happening:

Lost in Blue on the Wii is actually this blurry.

Our sight is finally going from spending too long looking at Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo screenshots. Mother said it would happen!

Somebody broke in overnight and maliciously slathered our monitors in Vaseline.

As it stands, those are the only three explanations we can muster for these blur-o-rific Lost in Blue screens, the first English language shots to appear. They actually look a little better shrunk down (see above), but the same can't be said for the full-size versions. Are we being harsh by suggesting those smudgy textures recall the dreaded Nintendo 64 fuzz? We only criticize because we want this to be just right!

Gallery: Lost in Blue
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lost-in-blue/807721/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lost-in-blue/807720/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lost-in-blue/807719/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lost-in-blue/807718/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lost-in-blue/807717/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Sega partners with PlatinumGames, reveals first MADWORLD shots

To our delight, Sega just sent forth a press release confirming the partnership, along with the first two shots of PlatinumGames' Wii debut, MADWORLD.

Described as a game that "straddles graphic novels and 3D worlds," MADWORLD looks every bit as stunning as early video footage had suggested. It's set for release during Q1, 2009, and promises weapons that range from chainsaws to street signs, irreverent humor, and sports commentary to accompany the slaughtering.

Finally, there's a fourth title that Sega is keeping under wraps for now -- all we know is that it's being directed by Shinji Mikami, whose resume includes the first three Gyakuten Saiban games, God Hand, Killer 7, Resident Evil 4, and Viewtiful Joe.

Gallery: MADWORLD
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/madworld-1/807930/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/madworld-1/807929/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/madworld-1/807931/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Video, screens, and info for Attractive People

Hey there, pretty people -- you might be interested in hearing the latest news about Telltale's upcoming WiiWare series, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. As for the rest of you uglies, just movie on -- there's nothing to see here. (If you're perusing Wii Fanboy, you're clearly hot stuff, so don't worry and read on.)

Telltale reports that the first episode of the game, titled "Homestar Ruiner," centers around Strong Bad's desire to pummel Homestar Runner. He then decides that the best way to beat his rival would be to defeat him in the tri-annual Race to the End of the Race.

You can check out the video of "Homestar Ruiner" above, although it doesn't show too much gameplay. Occasionally, it looks like you have to choose something from a thought bubble in order to progress the story, but often there's only one item to choose from. Joystiq did report that the demo for SBCG4AP was pretty linear, but hopefully the episode in its entirety will have more to offer.

We've also added some new game screens to our gallery, which feature some beloved characters from the Homestar Runner-verse, so be sure to check them out.

Gallery: Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/strong-bads-cool-game-for-attractive-people-1/806500/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/strong-bads-cool-game-for-attractive-people-1/806499/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/strong-bads-cool-game-for-attractive-people-1/806498/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/strong-bads-cool-game-for-attractive-people-1/806497/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/strong-bads-cool-game-for-attractive-people-1/806496/">

[Via press release; also, thanks fco!]

Now it's being call Mario Super Sluggers, which is an improvement in our eyes, and is to feature, as you'd expect, a plethora of characters from Nintendo's famous franchises. We're glad to see Mario is heading back to the diamond again!

The scans show off some interesting aspects of the game, including what looks like a kind of special catch system when playing in the outfield, which lets you rob players of home runs. Also, the player-specific abilities seem to be returning, as well as the themed stadiums in which you'll play ball. In the scan, you can see what appears to be Luigi throwing a kind of tornado pitch. With Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King out and tempting obsessives with DLC, it's easy to forget about the other Wii simulation game about a tiny king building a town: Ousama Monogatari (King Story). The latest screens show off King Story's unique textured style well, but they also reveal three of the jobs that the magical king Corobo can force people to take on.

Soldiers (possibly translatable as "grunts") stay close to the king and protect him with close-quarters combat. Carpenters, labeled "normal," act both as builders and architects, designing and building new structures and roads for the town. And farmers, described as "serious," dig holes and plant crops.

Sure, these may seem obvious, but we don't think we can expect normal real-world logic to apply in a game about a kid whose magic crown makes everyone do what he says.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

A first look at Lost in Blue

Some awesome ideas coupled with mediocre execution: that's the story of Lost in Blue so far. Hopefully the potential of the series will be realized now that Konami has shifted development from the DS to the Wii, and these scans, extracted from the pages of CoroCoro magazine, are a promising start.

If you've played any of the Lost in Blue games on the DS, much of what appears in these screens will look comfortingly familiar -- dislodging coconuts from trees, starting fires, cooking with rudimentary tools -- but there appears to be the odd new feature as well; for instance, we don't recall a dog being in any of the DS games (though feel free to correct us there).
Gameloft's first WiiWare entry, TV Show King, might turn away most gamers with its casual premise and 1000 Wii Points tag, but the publisher has made an effort to pack value in the trivia title -- 3,000 questions, Mii integration, and a game show atmosphere complete with a smarmy host and a busty blonde. Is all that enough to warrant its $10 price? Read our review to find out!

Gallery: TV Show King
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/tv-show-king/802670/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/tv-show-king/802669/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/tv-show-king/802668/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/tv-show-king/802667/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/tv-show-king/802666/">

TV Show King starts with you selecting one of your Miis as your game show character, which is a nice, albeit expected, touch. Perhaps to make sure everyone is the same height, though, the implanted characters all seem to share the same body type, ignoring those extra pounds you specified when originally creating your Notorious B.I.G. Mii. The game also pulls from your Mii collection for the remaining contestant spots (four in total) and rustles a group of your system's wandering avatars into the studio as the audience.

You're given limited settings to adjust before the game starts, which is probably best considering TV Show King's casual audience. You can mark the amount of rounds you want to play -- three, six, or nine -- and your desired difficulty -- Normal, King, or Genius. For the purposes of this review and to make sure we felt smart at the end of it, we left the settings at three rounds on the King difficulty.

Keeping with its game show theme, TV Show King begins with its spinning logo and a clapping DJ while the camera pans over the studio set and audience. A spotlight scans the crowd before calling down your Miis to the podiums, just like in The Price Is Right, though the game's soundtrack never ventures from its bland music into anything iconic.

The host, Jerry, an uninspiring man with unfortunate eyebrows, leads you into the first round of questions grabbed from a range of topics from entertainment to science. Players use their Wii remotes to point at and select the correct answer from four options as a 15-second timer counts down. You can see what other players have picked, but TV Show King makes up for it by rewarding more money to the players who first select the correct answer. Depending on your answer, a pleasant or discordant noise will play on your Wii remote's speaker to notify you if you're right or not.

After a few questions, Jerry introduces a "special event" in which, for the remainder of the round, the first player to answer a question correctly wins a significant cash bonus. Once the round's questions have been exhausted, players are invited to spin a wheel that can just as easily reward you with bonus money as it can leave you bankrupt.

The wheel will be a controversial point for many from the beginning. as it's never explained how to effectively spin the wheel. Some might feel the rewards and the risks are too much -- it's possible to win $15000 from a single spin. The wheel can also make you hand over a a sizable portion of your savings to one of your opponents. Even if you opt out of spinning the fortune wheel, there are spaces on the circle that allow other players to grab your cash. Some will welcome the break from TV Show King's formula, though, and it's an opportunity for lagging players to catch up.

The wheel spun and the damage done, the show's top-heavy presenter, Angela, directs you towards a board with the current rankings. Following that, you're taken through another similar round with the same "special event" and wheel-spinning.

The third round brings a random twist to how the answers are presented. Depending on which mode the game picks, Scratch Quiz or Light Quiz, players will have to scratch at buttons with their Wii remotes like a lottery ticket to uncover the answer underneath or use their controllers as flashlights to reveal the four options.

Once those shenanigans are out of the way, the two contestants with the highest cash count face off in a trivia duel. Whoever answers five questions correctly first steals half of the other player's money. Afterwards, all four players are ranked by how much cash was in their pot at the end of the game.

And that's TV Show King! There's also a single-player trivia mode that challenges you to answer as many consecutive questions correctly as you can, but it's hard to imagine anyone having fun playing this game without friends. Though your scores are tracked and saved, TV Show King doesn't offer any online features, so you won't be able to share any records with your crew of trivia-game-score-obsessed friends.

Where the game really suffers, though, is in its replayability. Even with its total of 3000 trivia questions, you've seen everything TV Show King has to offer in terms of presentation after two ten-minute playthroughs (which go by even quicker if you skip the segue cutscenes). More unique events, format variations, and an expanded audio track would have helped a lot to keep the rounds feeling fresh. Hearing Jerry's "Impressive!" compliments after each correctly answered question gets old quick.

Despite those flaws, is it worth the $10 Gameloft is asking for it? Only if you have a group of friends over who don't mind TV Show King's tiresome host and risking their earned lead to a wheel of chance.

Final Score: 6/10

Exclusively for the Wii, Activision is bringing another entry in the Pitfall franchise to Nintendo's console. What has us confused about all of this, though, is that these images look very familiar to Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, which released on the previous generation of consoles. Could this just be a port of that game, now with waggle?

Our hunt for similar screens to compare has come up empty. The press release mentions there are over 60 levels to play, but says nothing to the fact that this looks like a game that already released 4 years ago. When we find out, we'll let you know.

Gallery: Pitfall: The Big Adventure
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/pitfall-the-big-adventure-1/801120/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/pitfall-the-big-adventure-1/801119/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/pitfall-the-big-adventure-1/801118/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Wii Game of Haruhi Suzumiya

The mega-popular anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is now being made into a Wii game, after success on the PS2 and PSP (mostly as vectors for delivery of exclusive Haruhi figurines). The Wii game, we predict, will be the biggest success of all, because

it also includes a Haruhi figurine, and

it's based on the dance sequence from the anime's ending, which has become an Internet phenomenon

Up to three players control Haruhi, Yuki Nagato and Mikuru Asahina in a motion-based dance game, which seems to involve mimicking poses with Wiimote positioning. In addition, it also contains the standard anime-game adventure component, featuring a new storyline.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Protothea might not be terrible

Earlier this week, we shared with you videos from Ubisoft newly announced WiiWare title, Protöthea, and the game looked, at best, boring, at worst, awful. Seeing this trailer for the original 2005 PC game which the WiiWare release will be a remake of, however, has given us a new hope. This looks about a hojillion times more exciting than the clips IGN trotted out for us to preview!

Further improving our opinion of Protöthea, the original PC game was Cartoon Network's Project Goldmaster winner at the 2005 Independent Games Festival, rewarding developer Digital Builders an opportunity to create a game based on a Cartoon Network license. Knowing all this, maybe the screenshots in the gallery we've included below will seem more interesting to you.

Protöthea was supposed to launch with WiiWare, according to IGN, but we didn't see the title on the list posted earlier today, so who knows when the shmup will be thrown onto Nintendo's download service.
We immediately cried out, "Bullshots!" when we sighted these screenshots released with Battle Rage: The Robot Wars' Wii press release today, but then we remembered that a PC version of the fighter is also in the works.

With a quick comparison comparing the image resolution with other screens for Wii games (and a bit of common sense), we were able to confirm our suspicions that these shots are, indeed, too good to be true. That said, if graphical detail isn't a primary concern for you, jump into the gallery for three new screenshots of the four-player arena combat game.

And, while the images might not be for the Wii release, there's no doubt that this European boxart is! The cover actually looks badass, you know, despite Data Design Interactive's out-of-place Popcorn Arcade branding.

Details about the actual game: 20 weapons, 10 arenas, 8 robots, special melee/ranged weapons for each robot, customizable robots, arcade mode, team battles, 2036 setting, yadda yadda yadda, convicts trying to earn their freedom by battling mechs for a bored society's entertainment.

Gallery: Battle Rage: The Robot Wars
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/battle-rage-the-robot-wars/796252/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/battle-rage-the-robot-wars/796251/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/battle-rage-the-robot-wars/796250/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/battle-rage-the-robot-wars/796249/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/battle-rage-the-robot-wars/712296/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rubik's World looks neat, is presumably a game of some kind

The first screens of Rubik's World, the puzzle game based on the colorful cube (which is, of course, a decorative item only, and not a solvable puzzle) show a beautiful, stark white environment and items made of Rubik's Cube components -- and no information at all about what the game is or how you would play it. Do you build a Rubik's Tree? Do you arrange parts into the shape of a tree? Do you throw a ball at it and knock it over? We're going to have faith that this is a game and not merely a 3D block building kit.

The press release accompanying the game refers to stuff like living "Cubies" you can interact with, music composition, and unspecified puzzles of some kind, as well as the classic Cube gameplay. We hope that whatever this turns out to be is as cool as it looks, because we could spend quite a bit of time staring at what basically amounts to 3D pixel structures.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Deca Sports teases three of ten

Hudson's latest trailer for Deca Sports provides extended looks at the archery and soccer events, along with the badminton game that was part of our preview. By now you know the format for Wii minigame-collection trailers: shots of gameplay punctuated by shots of people standing in front of a couch in a well-appointed apartment, waggling with giant smiles affixed to their faces.

Most importantly (to us), the trailer features that ridiculously catchy Deca Sports theme.
Just a few short days ago, we "predicted" (by reading Hudson's web site) that a sequel to Fishing Master would be on the way soon. It turns out we're totally psychic (that's what it is when you can predict the present, right?), as the first screens of Fishing Master: World Challenge have been revealed.

World Challenge takes players on a boat tour around the world. You'll get to see some of the most beautiful and distinctive landmarks of the world -- in the distance, as you sit by a nearby body of water and fish! At a press event for Mastiff's virtual maw-filler Major League Eating: The Game, professional eater Tim Janus (the guy with the face paint in the screenshots) broke the world record for sushi-eating, devouring 141 pieces of sushi in six minutes. Imagine being a hapless member of the gaming press, walking into a normal game demo and ending up with a ringside seat for a guy cramming sushi into his mouth. We were a little taken aback by simply reading the press release today. If, for some reason, you'd like to see video of the momentous occasion, CNet recorded it.

This is easily the most disgusting thing done to promote a game since Acclaim's "Turok" baby-naming promotion. And it's not even that sushi is a disgusting food -- it's just not the kind of thing we'd want to see someone eat a lot of. Speaking of seeing a lot of things, be sure to feast on our newly updated gallery!

Gallery: Major League Eating
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/major-league-eating/781268/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/major-league-eating/781267/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/major-league-eating/781266/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/major-league-eating/781265/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/major-league-eating/781264/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Wonderworld Amusement Village of the Damned

Majesco's Wonderworld Amusement Park seems to be ... more than the standard many game collection in a number of ways. First, the selection of minigames in the title seems larger than those of its contemporaries. And they seem more creative -- there's a game based on unwrapping mummies, for example, and a number of competitive minigames based on rides like ... the Tunnel of Love and "Castle Terror."

There also seems to be a strong undercurrent of creepiness present in Wonderworld, which the game does by itself just fine. What we're saying is that the character models (for one) are off-putting enough that we think populating screenshots with groups of identical-looking blonde characters is overkill.

Gallery: Wonderworld Amusement Park
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/wonderworld-amusement-park/779965/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/wonderworld-amusement-park/779964/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/wonderworld-amusement-park/779963/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/wonderworld-amusement-park/779962/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/wonderworld-amusement-park/779961/">

[Via press release]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Hudson serves up a new Deca Sports trailer

We don't have to tell you that we're excited for Deca Sports from Hudson. After giving 4 of the game's 10 final sports a test drive, we're anxious to see if the other 6 sports are the fun we think they're going to be. Until the game releases next month, we're just going to have to settle for this new trailer above.

Be sure to give our gallery a look, as well. We just put in a bunch of new screens for you all to check out.

Gallery: Deca Sporta
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/deca-sporta/789258/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/deca-sporta/789257/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/deca-sporta/789256/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/deca-sporta/789255/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/deca-sporta/789254/">

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Fresh round of screens for LEGO Indy

Call the underside of a rock your home? Then you might not have heard that Indiana Jones is finally back in cinemas on May 22nd, and that as Harrison Ford is dragging his creaking frame around the silver screen again, there'll be a game released to milk the event some more. We'd like to be really cynical about LEGO Indiana Jones, but heck, the LEGO Star Wars games were actually surprisingly fun affairs, and we suspect this will be much of the same, only with a daft number of characters. Oh, and it's Friday evening. We're in way too good a mood to be horrible about games on Friday evenings.

Flee from a giant boulder and past the break for more screens, courtesy of our French chums at Wiiz.

Gallery: LEGO Indiana Jones
<a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lego-indiana-jones/697078/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lego-indiana-jones/697077/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lego-indiana-jones/697076/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lego-indiana-jones/697075/"><a href="http://"www.nintendowiifanboy.com"/photos/lego-indiana-jones/697074/">
