Distinguishing Characteristics--
Pink shell, pink head and pinkish sunglasses. Are we detecting a symbolic pattern here, or is Roy trying too hard to bite Birdo's style? He also has unusual vampire fangs.

Life in the Decade between 1993-2003 --
We are confident Roy woke up one morning and realized he bore a remarkable semblance to Sir Elton John. Since the whole glam rock scene was over, he slumped into an extended depression and repeatedly played "Crying" by Roy Orbison, his supposed namesake. When that phase passed, he decided his malaise was just misdirected anger toward Mario, the man who crushed his hopes of becoming an evil kingpin like his father. He started pumping iron and stomping the ground again like he did in the old days, then he left his pathetic apartment for his rematch with Mario in Superstar Saga.
