Pink Berries and the Happy Coins

Here are two items in Super Mario World you would never have found useful without the aid of Yoshi's miraculous digestive system. While the red and green berries can be found in most forest stages, the pink variety is less common and usually out of reach. Why? They speed up Yoshi's metabolism, of course. Didn't you know? Eat enough berries and Yoshi will heave them out his rear end in the form of...a generous smiling cloud...which of course produces smiling yellow coins. What are they laughing at? Why does this seem so unsanitary?
