Lakitu's Cloud

Not the rarest Mario item ever, but certainly a close contender. Like the hammer in Super Mario Bros. 3, Lakitu's Cloud can be used only on the world map. The wonderful thing about this item—I mean besides turning Mario into a grinning wisp of cloud—is that it allows players to discriminate level design. Can't tolerate the "big swallowing fish" levels in world 3? Skip the whole freaking map. Of course, this was probably intended as a last resort, get-out-of-jail-free card for less capable players. Whoever they are.
