Forlorn Spidey has nowhere to sling his webs

No wonder Spider-Man 3 got such mixed reviews on the Wii version of the game -- someone forgot to finish the graphics. We can't think of any other possible explanation for something this atrocious.

What's going on here? How can this be considered acceptable ... and how can anyone bestow even a middling-good score on such a sight? We love us some Spider-Man and all, but this game would have to be the best thing ever (moreso even than sliced bread) to wrangle an 83%. Maybe we're just pickier than most, but this looks like a sign that not only is there something wrong with how some third-party Wii games are being handled, but maybe the review system isn't all it's cracked up to be, either.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI Wii-ward

Must ... resist ... urge to use "Thwii" pun ...

Now that we've sufficiently girded, here's the news: the PS2 Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI is getting an enhanced port on the Wii, to be released in Japan on March 21st with the enhanced title Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI with Power-Up Kit. Along with the obvious Wiimote functionality, the game will be getting some new gameplay modes and scenarios.

After trying to figure out the first NES Romance, we swore the series off forever. Kudos to those of you who managed to play these things.

MP3 vids: Samus blasting, ships blowing up

A delicious, full-course meal of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption videos has been served up by IGN. As one of our most anticipated launch titles games coming in 2007, we soak all things up Metroid Prime 3 related and absorb it into our bodies, using it to sustain our life force.

These videos showcase not only some mouth-watering gameplay, but also a dazzling attention to detail in the graphics. The particle effects look better, textures look more crisp, and a cutscene of Samus floating out in space causes us to convulse in excitement. We really can't wait to get our hands on this game at launch in 2007.

Wii box art mockup collection

You know, we admit we're just dying to get our hands on the Wii and some of its killer games, but Nintendo Nsider Forum poster GANONDESTROYER has us licked. His desperation to get his hands on the Wii and its games goes beyond infatuation.

His photoshopped mockups of Wii box art show hours of detailed attention and quite possibly a small touch of dementia. Not to be without a sense of humor, his mockup of a box design for Animal Crossing and Tingle's Adventure elicit some chuckles. Also, his Nintendogs mock up is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen.

[Note: 56K users beware as the forum post has enough images to destroy your modem.]

Spidey 3 on rails?

Supposedly, a blog over at IGN states that Spider-Man 3 on the Revolution will be "on rails" and the game will be entirely focused around the player utilizing Spidey's web with the remote. This blog cites a source over at AMN that was charged with interviewing Activision about said game, having sent an email to the blogger to spill the beans. While scrolling down to the comments below you'll see someone from AMN discreditting the information, the proposed concept is a very interesting one.

This is more than likely not true, but in thinking about it, I'm not sure if this would be such a bad thing. Given that the game would need multiple pathways available to the player to get from point A to point B in order for the title to retain some replay value, the focus on Spidey's web-slinging and placing him on rails could actually work for the title. If the game managed to include the free-roaming feel of Spider-Man 2 between missions, objectives, etc., to allow for those of us who love to go swinging around the city to get some type of fix, this idea wouldn't be so bad.

Metroid Prime 3 video surfaces

The Revolution Lifestyle has posted a link to a video of some Metroid Prime 3 footage. This footage is the same that was shown last year at E3, yet instead of seeing Mr. Iwata narrate, we get The Regginator. So while the clip is indeed the footage that was shown at E3, this is clearly a different venue. Instead of showcasing any new footage, we're left to speculate as to reasons why this new video would surface with footage from last year. We envision a man, malnourished and shackled at the ankles, emerging from the depths of a dark dungeon, his eyes watering as he gazes to the sun for the first time in a year, finally managing to escape his captors and release the knowledge he had suffered for so long with to the public. Too bad pal, Nintendo showed us last year, looks like you suffered in vain.

Clearly Nintendo is waiting for E3 to drown us in a tsunami of Revolution-related media and news, one that while it may very much exterminate our lives, we'd at least go down with a smile on our face.
