Whip up a batch of Cooking Mama: World Kitchen screens

Well, we heard the news not too long ago. Cooking Mama: World Kitchen is getting down to serious business, with updated 3D graphics and sophisticated moton controls. Hooray, huzzah -- too often have we wished the Wiimote to be a spatula for flipping burgers. Why enjoy the sight, smell and taste of cooking real burgers when you can do it without all those sensory annoyances?

Yes, it's always fun to laugh at "life" simulation games (even if this life is a cartoon featuring big-head Mamas and cooking scores). The real truth, though, is that Cooking Mama games are usually pretty fun, and the fresh new gallery shows a pretty decent look at the upcoming Wii installment. Bon appetit!

Boxart Battle: Super Mario Galaxy vs. Pop!

Balloon Pop!'s U.S. boxart was never the most eye-catching piece of work, a mistake that 505 Games was determined not to repeat when it launched the game in Europe last week. In place of Balloon Pop!'s forgettable NTSC art, the PAL edition features a shot of the game's hero hurtling through space beneath brightly colored letters, passing a lush planetoid covered in greenery on his way.

And if that all sounds extremely familiar, that's because it totally is, as one NeoGAFfer recently noticed. Whether intentionally or not, Balloon Pop! -- or just Pop! as it is known in Europe -- sports boxart that is eerily similar to that of this other game called Super Mario Galaxy. There's even a damn mushroom!

Suffice to say, Nintendo's crack legal team have been contacted. In an office located somewhere beneath Redmond, Washington, they wait. Suits pressed. Teeth bared. Preparing to feed.

The Destiny of Zorro still exists

We had long since forgotten about the Zorro game. Then these new screens popped up, and we, uh, forgot about it again. We'll forget about it again in a few minutes. The Destiny of Zorro follows the standard licensed 3D action/adventure game template of crate-filled locations brimming with identical henchmen.

We were really hoping for something that emphasized exciting sword controls (the Zorro franchise doesn't have much cachet outside of sword stuff), and that's still a possibility -- at the very least, you'll be Z-ing all over dudes. We just don't think it's likely. If the basic game is as rote as it appears, we're not holding our breath for well-thought-out swordplay.

Shin-chan improbably heads to Europe

European publisher 505 Games has randomly decided to pick up the Crayon Shin-chan Wii launch game, Crayon Shin-chan: Saikyou Kazoku Kasukabe King. The choice to localize some two-year-old anime game may seem unusual, but Spain apparently has a large Shin-chan fanbase. Previous Shin-Chan GBA games got Spanish releases courtesy of Atari. We can only guess that this Wii game, planned for a March release, is aimed at the same market.

It would be interesting to see a game like this given the same treatment that Funimation gave the show for its American release, in which the storylines and dialogue are all swapped out for nonsensical, 'edgy' humor and pop-culture references. And why not? People might get upset when this happens to the anime, but this is a licensed party game. It's not sacred.
