Fanswag: Win Zack & Wiki and some other games

To celebrate the release of the Wii on this day a year ago, we're hooking one lucky fan up with a bunch of sweet gaming action. While we would've liked to give away a free Wii to mark this special occasion, alas we could not find one (who can, anyway?). So, you'll have to settle for a bunch of free games, instead!

We're looking to make one lucky winner the happiest person on the planet by hooking them up with:
  • 1 copy of Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
  • 1 copy of Namco Museum REMIX
  • 1 copy of Dancing with the Stars
  • 1 copy of Battalion Wars 2
Before entering, please hit up the official rules page. Also, as usual, you have to be 18 years of age or older and live in the United States. Only one entry per person, so multiple comments will get you disqualified. Also, be sure to get your comment in before Thursday, November 22nd at 11:59PM EST. We'll select the winner come Friday.

Best of luck to all of you and, as always, thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!

Wii Fanboy Review: Battalion Wars 2

Battalion Wars 2 is a very competent squad-based shooter. And, it has just about everything that fans of first-party Nintendo games are looking for. With compelling gameplay that effectively uses the control scheme, all of the action in this game is fun throughout. It even has an enjoyable online mode, although it's fairly limited.

On the whole though, Battalion Wars 2 is easily deserving of a place in anyone's library and one of the best games on the Wii so far. Even if Nintendo hasn't acted like it is from an advertising standpoint.

Reminder: Play some Battalion Wars 2 with us tonight!

Yesterday, we told you how we received the above care package from Nintendo. We also said that we wanted to sink our teeth into the online multiplayer with you guys tonight, at 9pm EST. If you folks are down, make sure you hit up yesterday's post and leave your Wii console code in the comments, being sure to add mine, as well.

Comments are turned off here, so head on over to the original post please.

Come play Battalion Wars 2 with us [update]

Update: The game uses specific Friend Codes, which I didn't expect. So, I've updated the post with my game-specific code below. The other code is for my Wii, so please don't send me any disturbing pictures.

We just got a nice little package in from Nintendo, containing a copy of Battalion Wars 2 for the Wii, along with the cool helmet you see there. Pretty nice of the Big N, if you ask us, and since we've got to review the thing (our job is really tough sometimes), we wanted to see if any of you wanted to give the multiplayer a try with us. So, tomorrow night at 9PM EST, we're going to meet up in our usual Game Night IRC chat for DS Fanboy (#dsfanboy). If you don't have an IRC client (try mIRC or the Chatzilla plug-in for Firefox), then you won't be able to take part in the fun.

Do us a favor and leave your Wii Friend Code in the comments and be sure to add mine below.

Wii releases for the week of October 29th [update]

Update: You know, we have no clue how we overlooked Guitar Hero III. Our most sincere apologies.

We've got several new games hitting the Wii this week, including two titles we've been anxious to get our hands on. In fact, this week has something for everyone, with some titles that will appeal to the whole family, a title for the older crowd and a sequel to a GameCube game that wasn't given the love it deserved.

Without further ado, let's check out the releases:
  • Battalion Wars 2
  • Manhunt 2
  • Barbie Island Princess
  • Bee Movie
  • Ben 10
  • Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey
  • High School Musical: Sing it!
  • The Simpsons Game
  • Guitar Hero III

New squad of Battalion Wars II screens deployed

JeuxFrance has posted some fresh screens for one of our most-anticipated titles for the Wii: Battalion Wars 2. In hitting us up with ten fresh screens, we get a glimpse at some of the different vehicles available for use in the game. Considering the last time we had any kind of update on the game was way back when in July, we're glad we're getting any kind of update on the game.

Post-E3 BWii update

In the midst of all the excitement and videos of E3, we seem to have missed a very important update -- Battalion Wars 2, aka BWii! By "update," we of course mean "a couple of new images," but hey, it's better than a poke in the eye with the proverbial sharp stick. Or, y'know, with a tank.

It's been a while since we've seen images from BWii, and while these new shots are long on artwork, there are a couple of screens in there. Now we just need some new video footage so we can see what's up. We'd also love to see some more detail on how this one is coming along, since it's slated for a fall release and we haven't seen much yet ... like the online multiplayer modes. Guess we'll just have to trust for now that things are all good on the battlefield.

Battalion Wars II will have online multiplayer

Upon our first glimpse of Battalion Wars II, we thought that online multiplayer could really enhance the experience. We're glad to report that Nintendo have seen fit to grant us our wish, confirming via the game's page at Nintendo.com that the title will support online multiplayer. We can't be the only ones looking forward to playing this, can we?

Busting up the battlefield with BWii

Shh. Don't call it Advance Wars anything. Don't even call it Battalion Wars. This is BWii, y'all. We know, we know. It does look a lot like the 'Cube version, only, y'know, a little prettier. Don't nitpick. Just sit back and enjoy the hot war action.

Nintendo unveils Mario Strikers and Battalion Wars sequels at Leipzig, little else [update 2]

And the first new game to be marched onto the stage at the Leipzig Games Convention is Mario Strikers Charged, a Wii sequel to Mario's Gamecube exercise in frantic ball kicking. Eurogamer reports that the game is visually similar to the previous entry, but that it now sports special moves for the Wiimote. You can seemingly hold the Wii controller up to block incoming shots with your hands, though more enterprising players will surely have a lot more fun (and awkward injuries) strapping the wiimote to a foot and going ballistic.

Battalion Wars 2 -- as in BWii -- was also announced and is expected to be playable on the show floor. No new information on it yet, but rest assured that we'll keep you updated. That being the opposite of what Nintendo has done regarding Wii launch information, of course. Many expected their "Wii Prove Our Promise" keynote to toss a stick of dynamite into the Wii rumor mil and blow the constant launch date hearsay and price pontification to unrecognizable smithereens, but Nintendo has deemed it necessary to keep people in the dark for a little bit longer. We'll get you for this, Iwata.

[Update: One other minor announcement: Europe gets the gloriously pink DS Lite on October 27th.]

[Update: There's some video footage now up of the game. Check it out here and after the break.]
