Homebrew app Ocarina makes cheating that much easier

You've got to love the Homebrew community. They're constantly trying to cut corners and this latest app, Ocarina, is no different. Instead of spending time inputting button commands in-game, you can simply inject them, Game Genie or Action Replay-style, into the game. For example, in Twilight Princess, the Ocarina app allows the user to climb ladders super fast, have infinite bombs and use a variety of items underwater. Among other things, Link can also use the Spinner in a really imaginative way.

Friday Video: Samus joins the Ultimate Alliance

For those of you who noticed the PS2 buttons make their way into the video, know that this does come from the PS2 build of the game. You see, Vicarious Visions, the developers behind Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for the PS2, wanted to include both Samus and Link into the game and apparently did without Nintendo's consent. There's a lot of confusion surrounding it and, supposedly, when Nintendo was shown the characters were included in the PS2 version of the game, told Activision to cut them out. The rest is just a bunch of confusing history.

And, before you ask, yes, our room puts this kid's to shame. Our room has a frozen clone of Shigeru Miyamoto in it. Why? Well, we need to get witty headlines for Eric's posts somehow. He can't be bothered, he's too busy counting his theoretical millions in internet money.

Back to the subject at hand, we dare you to say you have even half of the junk this guy does. If there's one thing he has that we don't, it's that Umbrella watch. Not like it matters, because the iron shackles that tie us to our Joystiq company Acer laptops would never allow us to escape out into the real world, where a computer desktop clock is nowhere to be seen.

Link gets a corset, too

Many of you had some strong opinion's regarding TheVintageDoctor's Mario corset, so we only found it fitting to tell you about her new Zelda-related fashion item.

This corset is very similar to the last one, only featuring Link instead of the portly plumber. Unfortunately, the image used on the corset almost looks like it could be a Link "upskirt" pic, but we're still impressed by this outfit nonetheless.

Also, as of writing this, it's still in stock. So, you can wear (or have your girlfriend wear) Link's backside for $99.98 -- expensive, but a fair price for all the work that probably went into this.

Wii Fanboy takes Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi for a test drive

When I ripped open the FedEx package today in a whirling dervish of nails and teeth, I found what I had been expecting: a copy of Smash Bros. Brawl. Nintendo, the wonderful and kind souls they are, decided this crummy little blog was good enough to get a copy of the game along with the press. A single tear poured down my cheek, kind of like that recycling commercial. It was a magical moment.

I then realized I had to work today and couldn't get my game on. As the day progressed and I tapped away at my keyboard, putting up news items and other stories that all 12 of you readers care about, the game sat there in front of my monitor, mocking me. It was almost like some kind of evil temptation, as I thought about just ducking away from my responsibilities to play. I then realized that it is my responsibility to play! I've got to review the damn thing, don't I?

And when I heard that Joystiq's own Kyle Orland got a copy of the game too, I decided a few mutliplayer matches were in order. And in the interest of those who don't want anything spoiled for them, stop reading here. The rest of you can head past the break where the real action is.

Fear and Loathing + Link = Wii Fanboy love

Hey, our love may not be worth much, but it's got to be worth something.

The above parody of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas includes Link and a lot of stuff gamers will recognize. Aside from including a cat screaming about this being bat country, we can't imagine this video being done any better than this. Kudos to 8-bit Cinema!

Portable GameCube needs more work, shows promise

We hate to sound like your mother, Mr. I-Can-Mod-a-GameCube, but your fingernails (well, one nail, on your thumb) look pretty dirty. In fact, the unit itself looks like it could use a good cleaning as well. And, those vents look like they were made with a ballpoint pen in some Styrofoam.

But, we don't want to be too harsh. Because, and we'll be perfectly honest, we wouldn't ever be able to get past the first stage of creating a portable gaming system: unplugging the console and hacking it apart. We'd probably just pop in Twin Snakes, sit down and forget about the mod altogether.

Look, it's all well and good stomping off to rescue princesses and reassemble golden triangular relics, but at least remember that it's a cold, unforgiving world out there, and you'll need something warm to wrap around yourself at some point. As the only other Zelda quilt we've posted about was never put up for sale, this one should do the trick, even if it is ... $475?! We advise chopping grass to raise the required funds.

Becoming the Hero of Time is cheaper than it was last year

You know what's missing from this blogger's life, apart from a fleet of Aston Martins, an unlimited supply of Cool Original Doritos with salsa dip, and a wife who is also Audrey Tautou? The Master Sword, that's what.

Fortunately, Zelda fan and amateur bladesmith Jerry Bennett has given yours truly a chance to fill that weapon-shaped hole with this frankly stunning functional rendition of gaming's most famous blade. Jerry has placed the weapon on eBay with a "Buy It Now" price of $1,800, which is some $1,500 cheaper than the Master Sword we wrote about last year.

With a blade forged from three pounds of steel, a handle crafted from the wood of a golden apple tree, and the ability to repel all that is evil in the land of Hyrule, we're truly sorry we don't have two grand burning a hole in our pockets. As it is, we can only scroll sadly through the various pictures of the sword we'll never own over on this forum thread. Join us, why don't you.

Dojo update: Events

Today's dojo update shows the return of Events. These unique scenarios present the player with accomplishing certain goals, such as using Link to defeat Dark Link, as you can see above. Others include playing as Mario to defeat two evil Kings (Bowser and King Dedede) and using Pit to destroy the Skyworld level while trying to not get the crap kicked out of you by Wario.

3D Link to the Past 'interests' Aonuma

OK, show of hands, please: who fancies a 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past? If your arm just shot up, know this: you're far from alone. Series director Eiji Aonuma wants it, as well. Or at least, he's "very interested" in adding an extra dimension to what is arguably probably unquestionably the greatest Zelda game ever conceived.

Aonuma, who most recently acted as director on the DS's splendiferous Phantom Hourglass, revealed his wish in the latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine (the UK edition), stating that "The first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. I'm actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game."

Now, we confess that's a loooong way from us actually getting a 3D Link to the Past, but the mere fact that Aonuma has even considered this makes our legs go all wobbly. If you've never played the game, and therefore can't comprehend that reaction, then we suggest you stop reading, head over to the Virtual Console now, and commence downloading. For $8, it's a quite obscene bargain.

Dojo update: Items returning to the fight

For how much things change in this game, we're glad to see some things are going to remain the same. Such as some of the franchise's most well-known items, including the Home-Run Bat and the Fire Flower. One of the other items that you may recall, the Beam Sword, has received a slight alteration, however, giving it a much farther reach.

Custom Guitar Hero III faceplate, now featuring Link

You know what's missing from those extended Guitar Hero III sessions? Link. One guy, however, has solved that pesky problem ... or rather, his loving girlfriend solved it for him. Now blogger Silmarwen can rock out in style. The rest of us, sadly, are stuck with skins. Unless, of course, we can get someone to whip up something special. Start begging your more artistic friends now!

If Link's not really your cup of tea (for shame), you can also try something with a portly plumber.
