Wii Warm Up: Mario Party Hard

Call us old-school, but it just doesn't seem like Mario Party without damage to controllers or players. Our college dorm was a mausoleum of N64 controllers, their lifeless joysticks rattling limply around in the casing, dooming us to a fate of smaller Smash Bros. matches. However, with the substitution of waggle for rotation, those days of joystick fatigue and court-mandated free thumb gloves may be over.

Being dedicated Wii players, have you managed to find a way to hurt yourself or your Wiimote playing Mario Party 8? Has the combination of Mario Party and projectile Wiimotes caused a deadly nexus of TV destruction and personal injury? Or is your thumb happy now that you've found a new way to Party?

[Thanks for the topic suggestion, Zack!]

Mario Party 8 fastest-selling game in the franchise

Eight time's a charm, apparently, as Nintendo was quick to serve up a piping-hot press release tooting their own horn, declaring that Mario Party 8 is the fastest-selling entry in the series. In little over a month since its May 29th release in the United States, the title has sold over 550,000 copies. Nintendo's George Harrison sees this as a victory for both the franchise and Nintendo's new console, stating the "overwhelming response not only reminds us how much fans absolutely love the Mario Party franchise but also proves the unmatched ability of the Wii system to attract new players."

Mario late to his own party in UK

CVG is reporting that Mario Party 8, which was originally slated for release this Friday, has been delayed until July 13th. That's like Friday, only much later. Nintendo cites some kind of "production issue with the English version," which, in light of recent history, can mean only one thing: they're being forced to tone down the brutal violence.

This only affects the English release, and not other European versions. So there are other options if you're in a huge hurry to get the game, for some reason.

'The big three' ARE coming in 2007 (to Japan)

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Nintendo confirmed that they do in fact plan to release Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl by the end of this year, as well as pretty much every Nintendo game announced for the Wii. This corroborates an IGN report to the same effect, and is also totally, totally rad. Here's the full list of Nintendo's planned 2007 releases. Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race is slated for June 28, and the rest are all "2007":
Keep checking with us for news of the inevitable delays of about half of these. Seriously, that's a lot of first-party Nintendo games for just half a year or so. Aw, we just made ourselves sad with our own skepticism. Still, if half of this stuff does get released in Japan this year, it'll be great news and do a pretty good job of ending any drought that may or may not be happening.

Update: fixed some italics and formatting.

Nintendo formally announces Wii release schedule for 2007 (Mario Party 8 NOT delayed?) [update 1]

Update: This schedule is only good up until Q2 for this year. Sorry for the mistake.

Along with their press release for Pokemon Battle Revolution, Nintendo sent along a release schedule for all of the upcoming Wii games in 2007. Know what's weird, though? Mario Party 8 is listed as being released on May 29th.

This, of course, doesn't support what we reported earlier about the party title involving Mario and his friends. We've put in a call to our Nintendo rep and will update you all on what they say later on. In the meanwhile, head past the post break for the full list of titles releasing on the Wii in 2007.

It's official: Mario Party 8 this summer

According to AMN, the latest issue of EGM confirms that Mario Party 8 has been pushed back from its release date of this month to the vague release date of Summer 2007. Color us sad as we were really looking forward to this title (as most of you undoubtedly were), and now with the vague release date, we could honestly be receiving this title as late as the end of August, which is just criminal.

Guess the next Nintendo game we all have to look forward to is Super Paper Mario, eh?

Fuzzy new Mario Party 8 screens

Mario Party started a multiplayer frenzy back on the Nintendo 64 that has yet to die down. Now, seven years later, gamers are getting ready for Mario Party 8. We haven't heard or seen a lot about the game aside from a few seconds in a Wii trailer but judging from the blurry screens, we expect it to hold true to traditional Mario Party. From what we can tell, players will compete in activities like tightrope walking and painting.

Check out a few more screens after the break!

[Thanks Mickey!]
