The least they could parody

The creators of the sometimes NSFW (and also amusing) webcomic The Least I Could Do (and also, Looking for Group) have ventured into new territory: parody Mario Bros. games. Or rather, game, singular ... or, if you want to be very specific, Super Rayne's World.

The first level is currently available, and it's a good and silly mix of traditional Mario-esque gameplay, with all the staples replaced by cameos of characters and themes from the comic. For fans of the comic, the choices make hilarious sense; no one else could parody a Piranha Plant the way they do. Forget fireballs, too; here, you're hurling bottles of tequila. Guess that's a little more tasteful than some other things they could have chosen, considering Rayne's proclivities. Not a fan of the comic? Let's just say the main character's favorite anecdote involves that time he bought a horse a prostitute.

While it's still in the early stages, the game serves as a nice diversion, and could actually develop into something fun, particularly for Rayne's devotees. Check out a couple of screens from the level after the break.

Look at the footage: Dishwashing Champion

Depressed about Nintendo replacing the "Wii Would Like To Play" guys with Cowboy Jed and whatever other crazies it pulls of the streets for its commercials? Relive the glory days with this parody commercial of fictitious game Dishwashing Champion!

As goofy as Dishwashing Champion might sound, it's not that far off from low-budget WiiWare titles like Beer Pong -- we wouldn't be surprised to see something similar incorporated as a minigame after serving meals in Cooking Mama 2. Expect rubber dishwashing gloves accessories in your near future!

Friday Video: Okami Art School

We're not sure if this is a really poor attempt at being funny or a touch of comedic brilliance. We're leaning toward the latter, as the hilarious editing mistakes (whether they're intentional or not) remind us of those great Tim & Eric pieces featuring John C Reilly. OK, in the time it took us to write these sentences, we have decided that we like this video.

What about you all? Horrible attempt at comedy or low-budget brilliance? Would you attend this undoubtedly fine educational institution?

Mario Kart ditches 'Wii would like to play' for Cowboy Jed

"Look at that boy!"

As effective as Nintendo's "Wii would like to play" commercials have been, expanding the system's audience and attracting non-gamers, we're glad to see the campaign shunned for Mario Kart Wii (Though we expect to see it reappear for Wii Fit). In our opinion, the advertising style seemed inappropriate for some titles, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, for instance.

In the slogan's stead, we have Cowboy Jed and his Mario Kart Emporium parodying local, low-budget dealership commercials. Fantastic! We hope Nintendo of America and advertising firm Leo Burnett are planning more of these strange commercials for upcoming games. Get behind the wheel and drive past the post break for two more videos with Jed. Woo!

Fear and Loathing + Link = Wii Fanboy love

Hey, our love may not be worth much, but it's got to be worth something.

The above parody of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas includes Link and a lot of stuff gamers will recognize. Aside from including a cat screaming about this being bat country, we can't imagine this video being done any better than this. Kudos to 8-bit Cinema!

Spooftastic Raving Rabbids art

Some would argue that Far Cry Vengeance was beyond help, though we maintain to this day that the Ubiport would have been vastly improved with added Rabbids. Clearly, some swashbuckling young designer at Ubisoft shares our thoughts on this crucial issue.

The image above is one of nine spoofs to appear recently on the game's official site, all of which feature Rabbids invading a variety of Ubi's more well-known games. Sadly, none of them come in wallpaper size, which is precisely what these would be ideal for. Oh well.

Hop past the break for images of "Bunny Steel," "Bunnies' Creed," and "Rainbow Six Bunnies."

Mario Kart parody took forever to make, was completely worth it

We're all anticipating Mario Kart's release on the Wii. It may still be a while before we can fulfill all our Go-Karting (or should we say motorcycling) needs, but at least we can have a good laugh in the meantime. That's why we recommend that you watch this parody of the franchise's SNES original, titled "Super Manrio Kart." The folks behind this stop-motion film made if for an animation class, and all we have to say is, they better have gotten an A. It doesn't have a guy in a Princess Peach costume, but it's still fun, nonetheless.

Friday Video: The Wiinies

We love a good parody around here, and when one surfaces, we just can't resist shining our weekly spotlight in its direction. We think you'll agree that this week's selection is totally deserving of a little extra attention, considering it a) spoofs the already-hilarious "Wii would like to play" commercials and, b) involves The Goonies.

Yes, friends. It's a formula for ultimate win.

[Thanks, Nikki!]

Manhunt 2 looks a lot more fun since the ESRB incident

It appears that rather than attempting to appeal the ESRB's AO rating, Rockstar has decided to lose some of the violent content from Manhunt 2. In fact, they've gotten it all the way down to E. In our opinion, the changes seem to be for the better.

We play games about killing dudes all the time. But when was the last time you played a game where, using the Nintendo Wii's innovative motion controller, you held someone down and forced them to take an adorable puppy? Never, that's when. This is the kind of thing we want to play-- creepily-intense-niceness simulators. Put us down for one copy.

... yeah, we know.

Wii would like ... to kill you? [update 1]

There have been a lot of Wii jokes and comics, but this is definitely one of the most funniest we've seen, because it combines the great 'Wii would like to play' ads with the notion of the 'Wii-injury'. That makes it pretty much the definition of that whole 'two great tastes' cliché. Check it out after the jump to see for yourself.

[Update 1: It occurs to us that "most funniest" is in no way a sensible phrase, but frankly, we blame the video.]

VG Cats: This is Mushroom Kingdom

VG Cats may not be the most universally loved comic out there, but we have to admit, we sorta dig it ... especially when Nintendo mascots take the spotlight, as with the latest strip. 300 parodies may be everywhere (and oh, they are), but this one's worth it. Don't think the above is the payoff, either. The payoff is much better; after all, there's not enough beard in this panel for it to be the best part.

We're gonna start linking this every time the anti-Nintendo hordes descend and start screaming about the evil that is the Wii.

Friday Video: Bang, bang

Apparently, the Wii remote is the new toy gun. It wasn't enough that you could use it to do ten million things (apart from playing Wii) -- now it's being wielded as an imaginary weapon. At this point, we're convinced that buying a Wii is the best investment you'll ever make, because there's nothing the controller cannot do.

Today's featured video is a little different from our usual fare. It's just two guys screwing around (and what is this, National Parody-24 Week?) and they happen to be using the Wii remote as a prop. We give it a week before someone gets wind of this video and uses it to springboard a campaign on the dangers of the Wii.
