The game might not be very good, but you can't argue with how cute the little critters look in My Pokemon Ranch. The visual style is just incredibly adorable. If you don't think so, then there's a good chance you're Cruella DeVille.
It's a double WiiWare update for Europe and Australia this week as the fresh-faced download service once again blots out new old games. There is a pattern emerging here -- WiiWare one week, Virtual Console the next, and so forth -- but we're not yet sure if it's a deliberate trend or just a coincidence. Either way, it's pretty plain now that Virtual Console stuff is going to become less regular. Up for grabs this week:
"Interactive screen saver" Pokémon showcase title My Pokémon Ranch will be available in Europe (and presumably Australia) from this Friday on WiiWare, Nintendo has revealed. Whereas normally we have to wait until Friday itself to see what new bits and bobs appear on the PAL region Virtual Console and WiiWare (indeed, we do a weekly post on the subject, as written by some fabulously witty and erudite chap), Ninty broke the news early this week.
We reviewed the game when it arrived in the States last month, and it's fair to say that we weren't the biggest fans, mainly because we're all unfeeling sods with hearts as hard as mahogany it lacked substance.
The Spore Creature Creator. PC enthusiasts have been enjoying the thing for a bit now, creating wild and imaginative creatures. Well, it's also been used to create other things, such as controllers and ... rabbids. We figured there must also be a vibrant Pokémon population thriving within the virtual walls of the editor, as well. And, sure enough, we found lots of fun and inspired Pokémon recreations. So click on the bottom-right button there to check out some of the Pokémon users have come up with!
Is gazing at your precious Pokemans in glorified Pokémon display cabinet My Pokémon Ranch just not enough for you? Do you get sick of their cloying, sweet little faces? Do you yearn to see the little so-and-sos endure the same painful, hard knock life that you had to endure? Do you wish that once -- just once -- they were exposed to a slice of cruel, heartless reality?
If so, know that Gabe of Penny Arcade fame is right with you! Hit the picture on the right for the latest strip -- it's a corker.
Another week in WiiWare, another new release. And, like the responsible folk we try to be, we're going to go ahead and review Nintendo's latest offering through their digital download service. Is it something Pokémonfans will enjoy? Is it something that those of you who could care less about the pocket monsters are going to like? Read on and find out!
The steady flow of content continues this week, as those of us here in North America get our hands on some WiiWare goodness, as well as a pair of new Virtual Console titles. And, one of the Virtual Console downloads is an import, with the other being a classic that many are going to be waiting to download as soon as the clock strikes 12pm ET today.
Despite their ubiquity, the majority of Pokémon games manage to maintain a high standard, even when they abandon the more traditional Pokémans formula. Pokémon Puzzle League, for example, is one of the best examples of a Pokémon game that isn't a Pokémon game, and is comfortably worth its 1000 Wii Point price tag.
A pair of Eikichi Kawasaki-designed Neo Geo titles round off the week in Europe and Australia -- Samurai Shodown is one of the Neo Geo's best fighting games, while Burning Fight is another addition to the already oversubscribed (on the VC, at least) dude-smashinggenre.

Does Nintendo think English-speaking gamers are less willing to share? Minna no Pokémon Bokujo (Everyone's Pokémon Ranch) has popped up on Australia's OFLC database under then name My Pokémon Ranch. The message is clear: get your own Pokémon Ranch.
More significant than the name, of course, is the fact that this OFLC rating predicts an upcoming release for the WiiWarePokémon storage utility/collection game. A rating doesn't help predict time of release at all, but it is an indication that one is on the way.
We're quite curious to see whether the release of a game that interacts with Diamond and Pearl on the DS will cause online activity in those games to swell. It may get kids all excited about Pokemans again.
What do you get when you combine Halo 3 with several franchises in the Nintendo universe? A pretty darn funny video, if you ask us, so give it a chance. It has direct references to Super Mario Bros., StarFox and even Pokemon Snap. Let's see if you can get all of the Nintendo properties directly referenced! Winner gets our undying lovefor all of eternity.
This week, we've got two titles on the Virtual Console tap. How are they? Well, we can't waste precious space here telling you about them. That's what the video above is for! And, if you can't check out our videos for some reason, head past the break for some screens and text.
This week, a pair of new titles are available on the Virtual Console system. For those of you paying attention, this comes as no surprise. As for the rest of you, we ask that you just pretend like we totally made Renegade happen. Like, it was all us.
As usual, these will be available for download after 9am PT (12pm for those of us on the east coast). Be sure to stop back and check out our video wrap-up, which should help gauge whether or not these games are worth your money.
With the official NPD numbers due any day now, Michael Pachter has tossed out his prediction for the winner of March in the U.S.: Nintendo. He is claiming that the Wii will have moved 700,000 units in the month, with Smash Bros. Brawl being the big reason. Even though he says that Nintendo is still sending more units to Europe than the U.S., he says that March will be different because of, obviously, Smash Bros. Brawl.
And, even better is Pachter's prediction that April will see Nintendo doing even better, with both Mario Kart Wii and the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon sequels being huge draws. Let's hope he's right!

Feeling blue for some reason? Then if we were you, we'd plan to make Pokemon Ranch your first WiiWare purchase when the service launches in the states in May.
We're not even exaggerating in that title, either -- this game hits new, extreme heights of chirpiness, not to mention cuteness. In fact, for our money, it's more adorable than this. And yes, even this. People, this game practically vomits rainbows. It caused stone-hearted cynics like ourselves to drop our usual sneering and actuallysmile. You can try to resist, but it will be futile. Squeal and "awwww" your way past the break for another three videos.
