Six of our favorite Media Summit videos
You've already had the chance to examine scores of wonderful screens from new Wii games announced at the Nintendo Media Summit. This new post is dedicated to displaying thousands of more screens (squashed together to create videos) of some of the bigger titles that have been shown at the event.
We settled on placing Nintendo's official Punch-Out!! trailer at the top of this post, but could have easily led with some truly fantastic Sin & Punishment 2 footage, an impressive tech demo of The Conduit, or Yuji Naka's wacky-looking Let's Tap. Instead, all of those (and more) are past the break, and need to be viewed right now. Before you go, though, one final note: if any game released this year has a funkier soundtrack than Let's Tap, we'll be gobsmacked.
Virtually Overlooked: Arm Wrestling
I still can't get over the announcement of a new Punch-Out!! for Wii. It seemed like an obvious choice, sure, but Nintendo has avoided cashing in on plenty of obvious choices. To celebrate, I could have written a post about Super Punch-Out!!, but that's no fun at all. Well, actually, it's a lot of fun, but as a game. Instead, I have decided to reach a bit deeper into the tiny Punch-Out!! catalog and talk about ... the one that isn't about boxing. In 1985, the Nintendo IRD team created a second arcade game for the bizarre stacked-monitor cabinet that housed Punch-Out!! Like that game, it featured a small, nearly featureless competitor facing off against giant, grimacing dudes who happen to be broad stereotypes. But instead of punching the guys out, you ... wrestle ... their arms ... down. I'd be terrible at writing PR copy. And instead of a kid in a black tank top, you're a dope in a blue shirt with a black sweater-vest on. The effect is that of a rejected 1940's superhero sidekick.
Nintendo conference screen mega-roundup!
Nintendo announced a lot of games last night at their Japanese conference. Many of them, like Punch-Out!! here, were brand new. Some, like Supan Smasher and Cosmic Walker, we still don't know anything about. But we've got screenshots. So many screenshots.
After the break, you'll find galleries of all the new games, along with new screens of some upcoming games we've known about for a while. Of special interest to us among the previously-announced Oboro Muramasa Youtouden, coming to the US as Muramasa: The Demon Blade, because it looks super hot, Karaoke Joysound Wii, which appears to have art by Parappa creator Rodney Alan Greenblat, and Takuto of Magic (Wand of Magic), which appears to be a followup to Taito's LostMagic on the DS.

Nintendo unveils new Punch-Out!! for Wii [update]

Yes, you read that correctly: Nintendo is reviving the old franchise in an all-new title for Wii. We have no more details than that at this point, other than oh my god it's a new Punch-Out!! But, as soon as more is revealed, we'll let you know.
Maybe it'll be like our re-imagining of the game for Wii?
Born for Wii: Punch-Out!!
Sometimes you just have a bad day. It happens to the best of us; even video game bloggers are not infallible. And after a rage-inducing, hair-pulling bad day, you can go home, curl up in a ball and listen to The Wallflowers in surrender, or vent some of that anger. By punching people. But hold up there, tiger. You can't punch real people. That's, like, illegal. Enter the Wii: the best simulation for punching people outside of the real thing. Unfortunately, Wii Sports Boxing does not offer the realistic experience of mashing in someone's face Stallone style. Worse, no other boxing game since the Wii's release has really delivered a solid boxing experience. That could change in the near future with Facebreaker K.O. Party, forcing me to eat my words like a knuckle sandwich from Rocky Marciano. But if its Xbox/PS3 counterpart is any indication, there's not much chance of that. The same goes for Don King Prizefighter. This shaky reliability just won't do. We need Punch-Out!!

Rumor: Punch-Out!! Wii to be unveiled at E3

Ding Ding! Some potentially huuuuge news this morning from the pages of Brit magazine NGamer -- apparently, E3 will see Nintendo uppercutting its competition with a new edition of Punch-Out!! for the Wii. Not only that, but the mag reckons Punch Out!! Wii will ship with Balance Board support to let us
Is this the hardcore-pleasing title that Reggie has previously referenced? It could well be, because we're the hardcore, and we're pleased by this!

Punch-Out!!, bongo style
While we're sure that nobody is going to trash Soda Pop while using the Donkey Konga bongo controller in Punch-Out!!, it's good enough to take down Glass Joe with ease. And, it's a neat way to enjoy one of the best 8-bit games around. Just, uh, skip like the first minute of the video. It's kind of painful to watch.

For awesome NES mods, just add legends
Thanks to its largely flat surface, the NES doubles up as an ideal canvas for those wishing to spruce up their consoles with a custom paint job. Of course, you also need artistic ability, which is where we fail hideously, and eBay user hellokitty11111111111 (yes) excels.
Well, "excels" most of the time, anyway. The quality of these mods does vary a little -- we're not big fans of the Kid Icarus design -- but we do absolutely love the Earthbound, Super Mario Bros. 3, and (highly topical) River City Ransom examples. Are they worth (up to) $149.99, though? At a stretch, we'd be tempted. There's more past the break, complete with auction links.
Crochet-Out!! with Little Mac and Mike Tyson
We can't help but love Little Mac, the quintessential underdog. If seeing him on your virtual console isn't enough, though, how about seeing him around your neck in the winter? You may have also noticed that this scarf has Mike Tyson's big mug on it, so you won't have to settle for Mr. Dream. Realistically, we know you won't buy this -- after all, the scarf is a whopping $175 on Etsy. Still, we admire the craftsmanship that went into Beatboxtaun's crocheting, and we hope you do, too. We only wish we had such skills ourselves, so that we didn't have to drool over these kinds of things on Etsy all the time.
In our opinion, this definitely beats out the Punch-Out mat for the best craft featuring Little Mac (that we know of).

Mat, sweet mat

Craftster user obesolete rendered this extremely familiar scene from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (or, as it appears on the Virtual Console and in the later console release, Not Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!) in cross-stitch. Bald Bull has just totally smashed the extremely undersized Little Mac, stripping him (we imagine) of the star he'd been saving up for an opportune moment.
Cross-stitch is a good medium for game crafts, because, much like Perler beads, it naturally lends itself to designs formed from small squares. NES pixels, of course, translate perfectly. That doesn't prevent us from feeling a bit subversive sometimes for using traditional crafting methods to render weird, nontraditional stuff like game screens. No doubt obesolete got the same giggle out of doing this.

What is Mike Tyson like during brunch?
This usually isn't our kind of thing, but we just had to post it because not only is it a dead-on excellent Mike Tyson impression, but a masterful use of sprites. Seriously, Mike Tyson's Brunch-Out!!! is one hilarious skit. But, you should be warned: this video is NSFW (that means it's not safe for work). Considering what time it is, we're sure most of you aren't at work right now anyway.
So, enjoy.
