Cheap Classic Controller alternative for wire haters, master thrusters

Whenever accessory manufacturer Thrustmaster comes up in conversation -- and it often does -- we can't help but imagine the Simpsons' Duff Man character stabbing the air with his pelvis. So, if you hear us suddenly yell out, "Oh yeah!" now you understand what provoked our involuntary impulse.

Despite the distracting nature of its company name, Thrustmaster successfully put together an acceptable alternative to Nintendo's Classic Controller and WaveBird with several advantages over its first-party competition:
  1. Togglable rumble via switch
  2. Doesn't depend on a Wii remote hookup for wireless functionality, using a GameCube port dongle instead
  3. Xbox-like shoulder button layout
  4. Turbo and slow modes
  5. Mappable buttons
Best of all, Dell's online shop is currently selling Thrustmaster's T-Wireless NW Gamepad for only $13.59 ($19.99 MSRP) until December 13th! Check out more photos from IGN's favorable review past the break. Oh yeah!

The Simpsons meet their maker

Warning: this post contains spoilers about EA's The Simpsons Game, specifically about the end of the game. If you're trying to go into this game with no knowledge whatsoever, go ahead and skip this post.

But since we don't think there's anyone out there on a Simpsons Game Media Blackout, and since both our sources published this right in the headline, we'll go ahead and reveal the BIG TIME SPOILER: Simpsons creator Matt Groening will be appearing in the game as the final boss.

"I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going 'UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!'"

Between the preponderance of old and new Simpsons characters, and the video-game-parodying plot, The Simpsons Game actually sounds pretty great!

Wii version of Simpsons contains exclusive gluttony

Surprisingly, the new Simpsons game, called The Simpsons Game, doesn't follow the storyline of the Simpsons movie (The Simpsons Movie). Instead, it puts the player in the roles of the Simpson family as they become aware that they are inside a video game, which enables them to use ingame abilities (Remember Bartman? No? Ask your parents.) The game draws from video game culture, poking fun at games like Grand Theft Auto and Zelda.

The Simpsons Game is a platformer with two-player cooperative gameplay and a cast of 200 characters. Troublingly, the developers say that of those 200, 100 come from the show. Is EA creating 100 new Simpsons characters? Jiminy jillikers!

Wii owners will get a special treat: an exclusive minigame in the form of an eating contest. Using the Wiimote like a fork, players will cram as much imaginary food into their avatar's gaping maw as possible in a limited time.

Rumor: EA to publish The Simpsons Game

According to Siliconera, who claim to have seen "various retailer release lists", Electronic Arts will publish a new Simpsons game called The Simpsons Game, presumably as a tie-in to the movie. After doing our careful research like the responsible journalists we are (we went to EBGames' website), we can confirm that at least one retailer is listing such a game with a tentative release date of November 1st. The game will be massively multiplatform, with versions arriving on the Wii, DS, and pretty much all those other consoles that we don't bother with.

Four companies that we can think of have held the Simpsons license: one of them, Konami, made the four-player arcade game; Acclaim made a string of pretty rough NES games and the decent Hit & Run; Activision released The Simpsons Wrestling, and EA is responsible for The Simpsons Skateboarding. We don't really have a point here, except that we kind of wonder what genre this one will be! Kart racing? Pachinko? Who knows with Simpsons games?
