But there's something else here we don't expect to see in the typical fantasy setting, and that's glowsticks. And dance floors. Okay, there are several things that seem a little out of place, but it's MySims, and we're gonna go with it. The mini-rave is probably just on one of the themed islands you can explore in the forthcoming game, but knowing that doesn't make the dancing any less jarring when it appears out of nowhere in the trailer!

MySims Kingdom: glowsticks and crabs

TGS08: Marvelous announces Discipline for WiiWare
As if they hadn't done enough, Marvelous has revealed another new Wii game: Discipline, a WiiWare "real-time simulation" game directed by Doshin the Giant and Tail of the Sun director Kazutoshi Iida.
We have very little information about this game, other than an intricate logo (it is a perfect ... logo!), a few cryptic screens, and a picture of a real-life version of the bizarre alien object seen in the game -- a disgusting-looking Wiimote surrogate. The game apparently involves escaping from a moving prison with the help of this device. It kind of looks like it gathers information about nearby objects? We'll find out more soon.

Sim Bothering Animals
EA has released a new trailer and screens for their Sim spinoff SimAnimals. Like the initial assets released during E3, this trailer, while putting on a happy-go-lucky face, illustrates a game almost exclusively about being a total jerk to animals.
"Oh, look, a happy little bear cub with his family," the interior monologue of the imaginary player seems to say, "Let's kidnap him! I wonder if bears eat squirrels? I wonder if this bear cub can swim!" The floating, gloved hand continues to disrupt the lives of once-peaceful forest residents like that while the narrator cheerily describes how much fun it is to interact with animals. This is horrifying.

Boldly go into the Rune Factory Frontier gallery
With all the fuss about Animal Crossing lately, we'd nearly forgotten about Rune Factory Frontier. That's not terribly surprising, considering that details on the franchise's Wii debut have been few and far between lately, and City Folk dominated the land-and folk-tending genre at E3. New screenshots have surfaced, however, and after ogling, we thought we'd ask you which you prefer: Animal Crossing or Rune Factory?Deceptively new scans of Animal Crossing
The problem with showing new images of Animal Crossing: City Folk is that, unless the screens happen to feature the new city environment, what you see ends up looking pretty much exactly like the original Crossing. Only subtle clues point to the newness, such as the lack of hats, the different clock, and, oh yeah, two player characters onscreen together. It's still very important, and it's still really exciting, it just -- happens to look a lot like Animal Crossing!
We wouldn't want it any other way. We're ready to start it all again -- picking fruit, paying off Tom Nook, meeting new neighbors, filling our catalog, pulling weeds, the whole thing. This time, we'll be able to enjoy the game over some friendly conversation!

Draw Harvest Moon art to win a bumper crop from Natsume
Do you like drawing Harvest Moon cows over, and over, and over again? We're not going to go investigating (for the same reason we try not to investigate any fanart on the intertron), but we suspect that there is a thriving Harvest Moon fanart community -- and they're going to love this.To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the farming series, Natsume is giving away a pile of stuff, including a DS Lite Kit, a plush cow and chicken, strategy guides for both Island of Happiness on the DS and Tree of Tranquility on the Wii, and unspecified "additional goodies!"
All you have to do is draw a picture (like, on paper) featuring any character and any animal from a Harvest Moon game, and mail it in. Twenty winners will get stuff! Official rules can be found at the link.
Your daily dose of Alton Brown (oh, and that Iron Chef game)
If you wanted a dose of Alton Brown on your Wii -- as some of you unashamedly admitted -- then know that today will be the very best Sunday you'll experience all week long. Why? Observe the superior visage above ... the thoughtful pose and noble brow. Yes, dear reader, it is he: Alton Brown. Destineer released character portraits for some of Iron Chef America's key players as part of the promotion for the upcoming Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine, and Alton Brown has his place there, along with three of the chefs.
The excitement doesn't end there, either -- if they've got a portrait in our gallery below, then they'll be fully voiced in the game, so you'll get to hear Brown calling the shots (and hear Mario Batali and others describing their dishes) when the game is released this fall.

E308: MySims Kingdom cheerfully strolls into view
There are a lot of things we don't know about MySims Kingdom: its firm release date ("fall" is a big window), its purpose, or why all these little Sim guys are just so freakin' happy all the time. What we do know is that it's just as cute as its predecessor, the kingdom-less MySims, and the debut trailer above proves it. Their Simlish is pretty irresistable, too.
E308: First Animal Crossing: City Folk footage
E308: SimCity Creator all boxed up in a neat little pack-age
Considering the worldwide domination of all things Sim, it's no surprise that E3 will play host to precisely eight jillion updates about The Sims, Sim City, SimAnimals, SimSim the Simmy Simulator of Simness and other classic titles. What's that right there? Why, it's the box art for the upcoming SimCity Creator, which is a pretty decent looking addition to the legendary city-building series.A press release has also recently arrived, but it doesn't reveal much more than what we already knew. Build cities, draw roads with the Wiimote, destroy them with big, scary monsters. Nothing new, but sounds like fun on a bun.

E308: SimAnimals simulates animals

If you can refrain from being a jerk, you'll be able to gain the trust and friendship of the various animals that populate the SimAnimals forest. SimAnimals is planned for Wii and DS this January.
Harvest Menagerie
Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility already features some wild and exotic animals not usually found in the adorable farming series, like friendly ostriches. The newly-announced sequel seems to be going even further down that wacky path. For one thing, it's called Bokujou Monogatari: Waku Waku Animal March (Harvest Moon: Exciting Animal March). For another, animals like a lion, a giraffe, a hippopotamus, and a zebra can be seen in the art found on the new game's website.
Other than the new animals and a new, older-looking pair of player characters, Waku Waku Animal March looks strikingly similar to Tree of Tranquility. Check out the screens at Famitsu and more at Dengeki. It will be interesting to see if Natsume picks this up for localization or if the new Marvelous USA takes care of it themselves (through XSEED).
[Thanks, ASH!]

Animal Crossing Wii @ E3 FTW ZOMG ... maybe
Tom West of Official Nintendo Magazine went ahead and stated in his blog that "Animal Crossing Wii wil be unveiled at the conference." Referring to E3, of course. Top brass probably had an issue with this particular choice of words, and the blog entry now reads "everyone is hoping that Animal Crossing Wii will be there." Too late, hot plate! You can't outrun the internet, don't even try.Adding even more fuel to the fire, GAF'ers discovered Nintendo Norway has listed Animal Crossing on its 2008 release list, meaning we see game --> wait a short period of time for game --> buy game. Not a bad sequence of events, don't you think?
Our rapid-fire E3 coverage will be starting very soon, so stick around for all the latest on Animal Crossing Wii and other games featuring utopian societies of anthropomorphic creatures.
The My Life as a King DLC you've been waiting for
We didn't just get one WiiWare game and one Virtual Console game this week. We also got ... some DLC for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King! Well, that's much better! The new content includes four new dungeons: - the Infinity Spire pack for 300 points, which contains two dungeons, one of which levels up when it's completed,
- Castle Renovation for 100 points, a dungeon that enables you to rename your adventurers and listen to the game's music in a jukebox mode,
- the Library for 200 points, a dungeon that adds libraries to the game and lets you teach your adventurers skills.

Madden NFL 09 sticking the boot in with new trailers
Are all football players blockheads? That's what EA might be trying to say with those giant bobblehead players in the above trailer for Madden NFL 09. Here's an idea -- grab a copy of the game and head down to the local arena. Find a group of guys and taunt them with your nerdish ways, saying EA are right to parody player intelligence and the meaning of life is 42. It's a foolproof plan.
If you're an NFL fan or not, Madden has been an acclaimed addition to the Wii library in the past and this year's entry looks to be no different. The bobblehead players are taken from the arcade-style 5-on-5 mode, but simulation fans can still duke it out with the traditional, realistic style. Head past the break for another, correctly-proportioned video of a full stadium experience.
