WRUP: There's only one hero in our book edition

And his name is Travis Touchdown.

His moves are without equal. His ability to care for and nurture his small kitten Jeane shows the ladies he has a soft, emotional side. His Beam Katana shows his enemies that he means business. And his bike shows Santa Destroy that, on the road, he's just as much of a badass as when he's on foot, Beam Katana at the ready.

So, are you, like us, steadily climbing the list of top assassins in Santa Destroy? Were you able to track a copy down? Or, perhaps you're traversing the depths in Endless Ocean?

Homemade No More Heroes beam katana contradicts the game's title

Is it a good idea to make a costume and custom-built beam katana prop based on an unreleased game that may not turn out to be any good? Not at all! Is it an awesome idea? HOLY CRAP YES.

This No More Heroes Travis Touchdown costume from .ed is the antidote to yesterday's WarioWare cosplay. The jacket and shirt and drawn-on sideburns are great, but the real draw is the homemade beam katana accessory, which, using science, lights up with a blue glow. It looks just like the Blood Berry beam katana that we've only seen in tiny pictures!

The costume is so good that it even got the attention of a Grasshopper Manufacture employee named Naoko, who emailed him and said " I've just checked your pictures. It looks great. I really like it. I hope people recognized what you made for."

Trio of brief clips from No More Heroes

When we say "brief" here, we really mean it -- these video updates from the official No More Heroes site offer no more than glimpses of the game. There's also a Grindhouse-esque grain to the footage, and we're not sure if it's simply the video quality, or the intentional look of the title -- either way, it doesn't spoil the effect. We've tucked the clips away after the break, and re-ordered them to save our pick of the best for last, since on the NMH site, it was first.

Is it worth watching X-Play to see some No More Heroes footage?

We say it is! No More Heroes is the pinnacle of Wii awesomeness. Unfortunately the G4 website is the nadir of annoying Flash navigation. You have to click "Videos," then the X-Play icon, then the No More Heroes link. But once you've jumped through all those hoops-- beautiful gameplay footage. And English voice acting!

No More Heroes looks as stylish and cool in motion as it does in stills. Sword combat looks great, with insane duels ending in explosions of blood. It looks like a real action game-- much more so than Killer 7. The motion-controlled Beam Katana charging is, well, inspired. The wrestling moves appear numerous. And then, as if merely to fill space, there's a surprise Suda 51 interview.

No, there's no explanation of the tiger graphic. Yes, we're a little disappointed too.

No More Heroes character bios

The official No More Heroes page has updated with three brief character bios. We immediately put on our Secret No More Heroes Fan Club Decoder Rings and set to the task of figuring out the mysterious secret code in which they were written.

Travis Touchdown is #11 in the assassin ranking. He loves pro wrestling, competitive fighting, and a "Japanimation" (their word) called "Bizarre Jerry." Sylvia Christel is an agent of the assassins' group. A mysterious, cool woman, she organizes the ranking competition herself (we think.) Holly Summers is ranked #6. She is a model who also works as an assassin.

None of this is entirely new, but it does have the benefit of being about No More Heroes. And it's another excuse to go look at the character art.

Updated Heroes trailer is no less bizarre than the last

W00t cel-shadingBack in July, we posted a "leaked" trailer of Heroes for your viewing pleasure. The link has since been taken down, at the request of the publisher. At TGS, however, Suda 51's newest masterpiece was once again brought into the light. Anyone who's played their previous title, Killer 7, knows exactly how surrealistic these games can be, and this newer trailer does nothing but highlight the fact.

Despite the "anybody pick up and play" design Nintendo seems to love so dearly, the Wii is accruing a rather impressive collection of extremely mature games. Between Heroes, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Sadness, and the Orb/Thorn/Darkess combo from Crossbeam Studios, those of sounder mind and matter should be more than happy ... not to mention the ridiculous plethora of first-person shooters coming our way.
