Nintendo enlists celebrity aid in marketing Mario Kart Wii to Japan
Aside from advertising in the United States, another region important to sales of Mario Kart Wii is Japan, Nintendo's native country. As such, the gaming giant has enlisted the aid of Japanese celebrities to help hock their wares onto the gaming populace. Above, you can see model Aki Hoshino and comedian Medaka Ikeno having the time of their life with their Wii Wheels.

Okami advertisement pokes fun at itself
It's no secret that Okami's sales on the PS2 weren't too great, despite the fact that the game was hailed by critics and gamers alike. Some companies might be touchy about things like that, but not Capcom. Even though the gem they published sold a lot less copies than it deserved to, Capcom at least has a sense of humor about the whole thing, as the ad to the right shows us. Hailing Okami as "the best game you've never played" is one of the funniest Wii ads we've seen, in fact. Way to go, Capcom -- that's what we call good marketing.
Japan to run plenty of ads for Smash Bros. Brawl
With Super Smash Bros. Brawl releasing upon the Japanese public at the end of the month, it's no surprise that Nintendo has prepared a plethora of TV spots to be run. And, thanks to the intertron, one doesn't need to live in Japan to see them. So, sit back, relax and catch an eye full of Brawl goodness in one of the spots above, then head past the break for some more.

Hey old timer, put down that corded controller and get with the times! Pick up a Wiimote and hit the virtual links like a pro. Join all of the cool kids and get in on the sensation that is sweeping the nation!
That's pretty much the gist of the ad. There's some gameplay tossed in, but with it being the usual Japanese ad, its length is fairly short.
An ad for a Virtual Console release?!
It's Sunday, and you know what that means -- a new edition of Promotional Consideration! Well, that's what it would mean were this post on DS Fanboy, but since the sign we're featuring is for a Virtual Console title, this will have to be a Promotional Consideration article only in spirit.
We haven't come across many Virtual Console advertisements in the states; in fact, we haven't come across any at all. We're reminded of this travesty every morning when we see the lines of blood soaked through VC fanatic JC Fletcher's shirt, traces of his nightly self-flagellation rituals wherein he begs his retro-video-gaming gods to deliver us more ads for classic titles.
The Gradius/Nemesis sign pictured above was found at the Musashi-Urawa train station in Saitama, Japan late last May. When was the last time you saw an ad for a shoot-em-up displayed in a public space? As much as we'd love to see Virtual Console advertisements and posters of enlarged screenshots from 2D games brought over to the US, especially for JC's sake, we doubt that Nintendo of America will ever follow suit.

All new, all live: Wii ads in the UK
Movie-goers in the UK are going to be treated to something special while they're waiting for the feature to start: live Wii ads. Pairs of actors, portraying a mother and son combination, will show up in Carlton Screen Advertising and Picturehouse cinemas to play Wii Sports on the big screen to show off "just how exciting and easy it is to play", explained Dean McKain of Comment UK, the agency working with Nintendo on the ads. Sounds like a fantastic idea for an ad to us -- we just wish someone would do it in the US as well! If Nintendo wants to reach everyone, this is exactly the kind of thing they need to go -- get out there and show the Wii off to the regular, non-gaming masses.Honey, get the camera...it's Wii's first ad!

Over in Germany, the magazine "Games Aktuell" has printed what appears to be the first Wii advertisement from Nintendo. It's quite obvious that despite the momentum Nintendo has, they need one hell of a marketing campaign to reach the desired non-gaming crowd. Is this a start?
The ad is amazingly simple, to the point of several accusations of "WTF LOL PHOTOSHOP". While many of us may have to ability to make such an ad, its simplicity still has a certain, ah,
