Zelda bedding: perfect for those cold Hyrule nights

It's official: not only is Wii Fanboy the web's leading resource for all things Wii, we're also the number one online source of Zelda bedding. This is the third Zelda quilt we've featured on the site, and it also happens to be the cheapest so far -- a mere $135 will buy you this queen-sized duvet, as stitched from 2" squares of real Octorok skin cotton. For an extra $30, you can even have matching pillowcases: just make sure you pack it all away when any would-be lovers arrive in your room after a particularly successful first date.

If you fancy spending $165 on some of the most awesome bedding in the universe, contact Etsy user punzie and show her the color of your money. Explore past the break for a close-up of the quilt.

Impressive Falco papercraft doesn't even look like paper

It may not be a tiny gaming console or an incredible Wolf Link, but it's still really impressive. Actually, you know what? This might beat both of them! Well, maybe not Wolf Link. That thing is nice.

The piece of papercraft was modeled after the Falco model used in Smash Bros. Brawl. Whether you're a Smash or Star Fox fan, you've got to appreciate how good this thing looks.

We can hardly believe it's made of paper! If you're looking to try this yourself, this is the link to the necessary stuff to get your started.

Fresh art from The Conduit draws inevitable comparisons

In our High Voltage interview last week, Lead Game Designer Rob Nicholls was frank enough to admit that the team making The Conduit has "looked at and stole shamelessly from mega-hits like Halo." Such honesty is probably advisable, because there's no mistaking it: artistically at least, The Conduit isn't afraid to borrow visual cues from other shooters. It kind of is Halo.

This point was rammed home by a bunch of art distributed this morning (delivered in one huge combined strip -- see the full loooong version after the break) that deals with everything from weapons to enemies to the backstory. Truth be told, it's overflowing with tired sci-fi clichés, but if the game ends up being half as absorbing as Bungie's classic shooter, we've a feeling most of you will be able to forgive it.

Wiispray makes virtual graffiti

What do you get when you combine graffiti with a Wiimote? Wiispray.

This Wiimote was modded to look like a spray can, and almost works like one, too. Created by a German student named Martin Lihs for his thesis project, Wiispray allows users to paint digitally -- kind of like the Digital Wheel Art we wrote about yesterday.

Right now, the functions of Wiispray seem a little limited, but Lihs plans to add different spraying caps and colors to his digital spray can. Ultimately, he hopes different sprayers will make their virtual graffiti and share it with the world online.

Check after the break to see examples of what "virtual graffiti" looks like.

Digital Wheel Art caters to the disabled

Read on if you like getting your heart warmed.

The video embedded above shows Digital Wheel Art in action, a process that uses the Wiimote's bluetooth capabilities to translate art onto a screen. YoungHyun Chung developed the project after interacting with children suffering from cerebral palsy, as they lack the ability to express themselves artistically.

Digital Wheel Art is not only a means of self-expression, though; it also provides art therapy for people suffering from disabilities. Using Johnny Lee's whiteboard ideas as a starting point, Chung managed to create a painting program that traces the path of the Wiimote. The Wiimote can thereby be attached to a wheelchair, allowing disabled people to paint digitally with simple movements. To change colors, the user only has to tilt his or her head.

We're certainly impressed by Chung's efforts, and we're glad to see video game technology being use to help others. Kudos to you, Mr. Chung.

Building a World of Goo

Back when we chatted to 2D Boy's Ron Carmel about World of Goo, he confessed to being "in awe" of his development partner and artist Kyle Gabler's "creative talents."

It's easy to see why. We also really dig World of Goo's unique 'Tim-Burton-does-Loco-Roco' visual style, and so the video above, featuring (presumably) Gabler constructing one of the levels from scratch was an unexpected delight that we only just stumbled upon. The footage is actually a month old, but as we're yet to see this posted anywhere else, we felt it deserved some coverage. That up there is talent, people.

Real Bowser stalks our nightmares

Back in March, this realistic depiction of Mario made us hide beneath our beds, though that was nothing compared with the horrors of what followed.

Now, some twisted internet japester has reinvented Bowser in a similar fashion. Gone is the happy-go-lucky Bowser, the ultimately lovable, pantomime-esque villain with an addiction to kidnapping royalty. And in his place? Teeth. Scales. Leathery flesh. Claws that could rip through a plumber's torso like a warm knife through butter. Please, won't somebody think of the children us?

Creep apprehensively past the break for the full image.

For awesome NES mods, just add legends

Thanks to its largely flat surface, the NES doubles up as an ideal canvas for those wishing to spruce up their consoles with a custom paint job. Of course, you also need artistic ability, which is where we fail hideously, and eBay user hellokitty11111111111 (yes) excels.

Well, "excels" most of the time, anyway. The quality of these mods does vary a little -- we're not big fans of the Kid Icarus design -- but we do absolutely love the Earthbound, Super Mario Bros. 3, and (highly topical) River City Ransom examples. Are they worth (up to) $149.99, though? At a stretch, we'd be tempted. There's more past the break, complete with auction links.

Forget Chuck Taylor: Nintendo All-Stars

We're gonna go ahead and warn you up front: these shoes are not for the faint of heart (or wallet), but they are just so, well, Nintendo-y, that we had to share them. Our fanboy hands were tied. These custom-painted Converse are a (very, very expensive) Nintendo love song you can wear on your feet, and they're available on eBay for the low, low current bid of $255. But wait! You're not actually bidding on these shoes (which is good, because they probably wouldn't fit you anyway). Instead, you're bidding on a commission. Win, and seller Cole Ranze will do up a pair to your specifications (and size).

Super Nintendo Paper System

While not quite as ickle or adorable as the tiny clay NES that had Candace in full-on squeal mode recently, this papercraft SNES is still capable of melting the heart of the most unfeeling gamer. It's the work of deviantART user ryo007, who wisely points out that while other consoles have been rendered in paper, the SNES has, until now, been forgotten about by papercrafters.

Our favorite part of this? Those cute-as-all-heck tiny pads and game cartridges! If they had cheeks, we'd pinch them (and then probably crush them with our clumsy, sausage-like fingers).

Christina Aguilera's blasphemous Donkey Kong art

When we first embarked on our blogging careers, fresh-faced and full of hope, there were titles that we never expected to use. "Christina Aguilera's blasphemous Donkey Kong art," it's fair to say, was one such example.

Yet the world moves in mysterious ways, and so here we are, blogging about how pop songstress Christina Aguilera has hung the original version of the above artwork on the wall of her baby's nursery. That's right, folks: while Michael dangles his kids from balconies, and Britney has hers taken away, Christina surrounds her offspring with awesome Nintendo artwork. Titled "The Last Supper," this particular piece is by the artist Misha, and was created for the 2006 I Am 8-Bit Show.

Incidentally, if you want to be just like Christina -- and with an attitude to child-rearing like hers, who wouldn't harbor such aspirations? -- then great news! Prints of the above piece are available now at the Gallery1988 website for $75. That's ... actually tempting.

See things through Mario's point of view [update]

We've already seen Paper Mario transform Mario's world from 2D to 3D, but we like this picture that does it old-school style. It's also interesting to see Super Mario Bros. through a first-person perspective.

Our favorite thing about this picture is that Mario can see the scoreboard floating in the sky on the left. Also, he seems to have a nice view of the sun setting while he's running around saving princesses.

If you like this picture and want to see some more first-person Mario, you might also want to check out Techeblog's Doom/Mario mash-up. The poor goombas -- they never stood a chance, really.

[Update: The picture now links to a wallpaper sized version -- just click on it. Thanks, Jeff!]

Mama Mia! Mario gets stitched up

As we have seen on previous occasions, patchwork quilts are perfect for recreating scenes from NES-era games. However, the Mario depicted on this quilt is a little more modern, and the results are no less spectacular.

Crafted by the wife of BoingBoing reader Brian (a.k.a bishmasterb), this work of art uses sixteen types of fabric, and is 36 columns by 44 rows tall (six feet by eight feet). Oh, and it's hung on that wall for the last five years, hidden from an appreciative world! For the record, we fully support the decision to show it off on its own wall. You can't actually use things that are this beautiful. That would be madness.

You got The Quilt of Power!

Look, it's all well and good stomping off to rescue princesses and reassemble golden triangular relics, but at least remember that it's a cold, unforgiving world out there, and you'll need something warm to wrap around yourself at some point. As the only other Zelda quilt we've posted about was never put up for sale, this one should do the trick, even if it is ... $475?! We advise chopping grass to raise the required funds.

Take a closer look at this work of art after the break.

Super Mario Carbs

The excellent game auction blog GameSniped held a contest in which entrants were tasked with finding the most interesting, rare, and unusual video-game-related auctions on eBay. Some went so far as to create their own auctions specifically to win the contest, as was the case with the Jack Thompson-autographed Grand Theft Auto III seen all over the web this week.

Docman217 entered the old-fashioned way: by just finding bizarre stuff on eBay. The reason we bring up the back story about the contest is that we wanted to be able to express how flabbergasted we are that this Mario made of bread was not made specifically for a contest. This person just made a Mario out of bread, looked at the results, and decided to list them on eBay -- with an offer, of course, to shellac the loaf for preservation.
