Reminder: Last day to get those apps in!

If you're thinking about trying to finagle a spot on the Nintendo Fanboy blogging squad, you better get going on your application -- today is the deadline! Turn your attention to our recent posts if you're not sure how to proceed, and get those samples together. After midnight Pacific time, we'll stop considering new applications.

Want to write for us? The deadline approaches!

If you saw our recent post requesting applications for new bloggers and you're planning to throw your name in the hat, get to it! We will cease taking applications Friday, March 14th at 11:59 P.M. Eastern time. Rather than rehashing everything we said before, we thought we'd take this time to offer up answers to the three most frequently asked questions:

1. Can I write for only DS Fanboy or Wii Fanboy instead of writing for both?

Sorry, half-fanboys -- we need someone who can write for both sites!

2. Do you assign stories and material to your bloggers?

For the most part, no. In order to succeed, you'll need to be pretty attuned to the news of the gaming world. There's no time to wait for someone to discover the news for you. However, this also means you get a chance to write about the things that interest you.

3. Do I need to own a DS or a Wii in order to write for DS and Wii Fanboy?

It's probably a good idea! After all, how can you be a fanboy if you don't own the hardware?

For any other questions you may have, be sure to hit up the original post. It includes instructions on how to apply (and not following them is a bad idea), as well as answers to other questions you may have.

Calling all bloggers, part two: deadlines and more

First and foremost, we wanted to offer a friendly piece of advice to all would-be bloggers and columnists: not bothering to follow the directions laid out in the original post? Probably not the best way to get started. Just to reiterate -- please do not send attachments unless, for some reason, you cannot get things to work otherwise ... and if that happens to be the case, e-mail first and ask if it's alright to use a different format than that which we requested.

But enough lecturing! Let's talk about deadlines. We would like to announce that we will stop taking applications as of 11:59 p.m. (Pacific time), Friday, August 24th. Anything received after the cutoff will be deleted unread. However, if you are seeking a space as a columnist on DS homebrew, we will continue to accept pitches until the following Friday, August 31st. This only applies to DS homebrew -- any other subject, your pitch needs to be in by the 24th.

As a reminder, all bloggers will be applying to write for both Wii Fanboy and DS Fanboy, not just one or the other. If you have questions, please follow the guidelines laid out in the original hiring post, and we'll get to them as soon as possible.

Calling all bloggers!

Do you live, eat, and breathe games -- especially on the weekends? Would you like to get paid for writing about Nintendo? If these questions spark a ray of hope deep within your chest, we may have the offer you've been waiting for. DS Fanboy and Wii Fanboy are looking for a few good bloggers, and we're particularly interested in someone willing to do most of their writing on the weekend. Our new weekend blogger will not be in any way discouraged from writing during the week as well, but please understand that we are specifically looking for someone who can focus on the weekends.

If we happen to receive a particularly amazing application from someone who wants to write during the week, we may consider it as well, but a weekend writer is our first priority here. But please, go ahead and apply if you are truly interested and think you are the perfect Nintendo Fan-blogger!

In addition to a weekend writer, we're always on the lookout for columnists to join our team. Do you think you can provide 800-1000 words on an interesting subject each week? If so, we'll happily listen to your pitch.

Want to learn how to apply? Head past the break.

Kmart plays with one blogger's emotions

Seriously, how sadistic are you Kmart? You lure us in with those blue light specials and soon we're signing our name in blood on the dotted line. All for what? A cheap set of plush terry cloth towels? Well, you've tormented us for the last time! Well, actually, you tormented a different blogger for the last time, but all for one and one for all, y'know?

See, a blogger, who is still without a Wii (poor lad), has been checking on a daily basis to see if he could snag one of those elusive Wii. And he isn't about to pay for one of them rip-off bundles, either. So upon seeing the system for sale, all by its lonesome, via Kmart's website, he decided to snatch it up with the quickness, only to be let in on the cruel, cruel joke: the console is in stock but only available in quantities of zero.

Calling all bloggers, part two: FAQ edition

Now that we put out the cattle call, we're gonna take a moment to explain the branding ... er, the position itself. We've had a few questions in the comments, so we'll address those -- and we have one for you, dear reader. In this time of transition, take a moment to tell us what you want to see. If you controlled DS or Wii Fanboy for a day, what would you implement? What would you like to see for the future? Let us know, either here in the comments, or through the comment submission form here.

Check after the jump for the skinny on the applications.

Don't expect any Rare games on the Virtual Console...

...according to Matt over at IGN, who claims to have spoken with some key Rare folk about the possibility of some of Rare's past greats to be in Nintendo's Virtual Console's starting lineup during GDC. While it's pretty much a given that this would be the case, what with Rare being alligned under the cold, Borg-like, Microsoft Game Studios, no-shows will undoubtedly be Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Banjo & Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, and Blast Corps.

That last one hits this Blogger especially hard.

I know many people would say the N64's strongest game was Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark, some might claim its stellar first-party offerings in Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 were superior, but for this Blogger no other experience on the console could top the sheer ecstasy of uppercutting buildings as a giant mech and bulldozing gas stations in Blast Corps. It was like a digital incarnation of my childhood with Tonka trucks and Transformers.
