Wii's first force feedback wheel looks great, seems pointless

Yes, pointless.

As much as we love our Wii, it's not exactly creaking under the weight of great racing titles. There's Game Night favorite Mario Kart Wii, which is really fun, but that already comes with its own wheel, which works surprisingly well. And after that, we have (in order of GameRankings.com score) Excite Truck, MX vs. ATV Untamed, Speed Racer, and Cars, followed by fourteen other depressing drives.

None of which is intended as a slur on Logitech's new force feedback wheel for the Wii, which actually looks and sounds excellent. Releasing in November for $99.99 (!), the Logitech Speed Force Wireless features built-in gas and brake controls, a comfy-looking expandable lap rest, a wireless USB receiver and, naturally, full force feedback.

It is almost certainly the best possible way to play Cruis'n, GT Pro Series, and Wacky Races: Crash & Dash.

VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 3/31/08

This week sees another duo of titles available for play. One of them is N64 title Cruis'n USA, while the other launches a new system on the Virtual Console for North America. Hit up the video above for your usual dose, then head past the break for some added fun.

VC Friday: Commodore 64 hits the ground running

Ladies and gents, let's make some noise for the latest addition to the PAL European (sorry, Aussies) Virtual Console, the Commodore 64. Woo!

Yep, after what feels like an eternity, the fondly remembered platform has made its Virtual Console debut with two of the strongest titles from its vast library: International Karate and Uridium. Both are comfortably worth the entrance fee of 500 Wii points, and begin to look like an even more obscene bargain when you consider this week's other addition: Midway's totally mediocre Cruis'n USA. Hit the break for videos of all three.
  • International Karate -- Commodore 64 -- 500 Wii points
  • Uridium -- Commodore 64 -- 500 Wii points
  • Cruis'n USA -- N64 -- 1000 Wii points

Comparing Cruis'n on N64 and Wii (you know, because it's funny)

We haven't laughed this hard since Seinfeld was new (actually, a couple of episodes of Arrested Development had us laughing this hard). Cruis'n on the Wii is kind of like the joke that never dies here at the Wii Fanboy offices. Now, as if from some kind of divine intervention, we have more fuel for this fire of comedy. Why would anyone do a comparison video of these two games, anyway? Are they trying to have us laugh ourselves to death?

Someone should turn this game into a sitcom. We'd watch it.

Cruis'n vaults to the top of the Amazon charts, thanks to price cut [update 1]

Well, the top of the Wii Racing/Flying section of the Amazon charts, anyway. Well, #2. So, really, the part about "the top of the charts" is misleading. It's on the top area of some charts. But it's Cruis'n. This is the only measure of success it'll ever see. Let Cruis'n have its day. How did Midway achieve this minor miracle? Simple! They dropped the price by 50% to $14.99. That's the only conceivable way to get this game sold at all. At that price, we're even kind of considering picking up a copy.

... And we just stopped considering it. But hey, if you need $15 worth of stuff to qualify for free ship'n, this is an option. Or you could wait for the price to drop some more. Oh, by the way, some other games are on sale too, including Trauma Center: New Blood and Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. But those aren't quite as hilarious. Paper Mario 2 for $10 isn't bad, though!

[UPDATE: Okay, Cruis'n is no longer on sale (why?) but all the other Wii stuff that you may actually care about for real is.]

We're feel'n traumatised from look'n at Cruis'n

Remember how we were getting "an all new version" of Cruis'n for Wii? Well, if this is what passes for "all new," we'll take some old junk, please. Or nothing. Or an eye wash. Of course, this Cruis'n game is, in reality, as "all new" as it is attractive-- based on menu images, it's apparently a rebranded Wii version of a The Fast & The Furious arcade game. We wonder if IGN's Matt Casamassina is as thrilled about the game's Wii exclusivity now after these screens have been released.

Note to developers: If your game's graphics ever compare unfavorably to those of a Nintendo 64 game, then it's time to go back to the drawing board, and then get stronger prescription eyewear so you can see that drawing board. We hope this all turns out to be a mistake or hoax of some kind, because we don't want to think that Midway thinks this is an acceptable thing to release.

Midway has another Wii exclusive in Cruis'n

Midway follows up its minigame entry into the Wii library with a racing title called Cruis'n. In "an all new version of the classic Midway arcade racer," racers will navigate twelve different courses and earn upgrades, allowing them to "create the ultimate ride." As far as what ultimate rides there will be, we at least know Nissan has given them the go-ahead to include some of their cars.

Cruis'n is currently slated for a November release.
