Stare Death in the face in Castlevania Judgment

The official site for Castlevania Judgment has profiled two new characters for the fighting game, adding an obscure hero and one of the most common baddies to the cast.

Eric Lecarde was playable in only one Castlevania game, Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Genesis (though he did pop up as a helpful ghost in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin), and in Judgment he'll look every bit as effeminate as he did in the character art for Bloodlines. What is a man? Answer: not Eric Lecarde.

The second new combatant is familiar foe and all-round cheery chap Death, whose design in Judgment actually looks totally badass and is our favorite rendering of the character so far, even beating his design in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. We're guessing you can expect to have many a spinning scythe lobbed at your face.

'Most shocking': The death of Jennifer Strange

The end of every year is fraught with polls and recaps, but this one easily caught our eye for a variety of reasons. The death of 28-year-old Jennifer Strange after a radio station's "Hold your Wee for a Wii" contest was voted the most shocking tech story of the year by readers at geeksugar. Would you agree? The story faced some fierce competition, particularly when considering that one of the other contenders was the story of a Nevada couple too wrapped up in their games to care for their young children. To us, the latter is certainly more horrific, but that wasn't the question.

Water intoxication is not exactly a commonly known cause of death; it's one of those rarities that's always guaranteed to raise an eyebrow. But with the extreme demand for the Wii since its very release, it's hard to say we're surprised at the lengths people will go to get one. For once, however, we can easily say we'd rather see people paying scalpers on eBay than putting themselves at risk.

My, those dead Marios do pile up

Did you ever wonder, the first time you were playing Super Mario Bros., just what happened to all those Marios you went through on your way to your goal? Just where do they fall? Is there some sort of bed of boiling lava down there? Does he fall into Mario hell? Apparently not -- it seems there's a mass grave filled with the corpses of your gaming history. We really feel for the guys who have to play the Mario death theme; the stench must be horrible.

We can't believe we missed this one the first time around -- it should be an instant classic. In fact, we'd like to see an entire series of these. We've killed off a lot of dudes while gaming, after all ....

Wii Warm Up: Morbid fantasy

Ewwwww.The Wii will play host to a wonderful plethora of violent games in the future: Manhunt, Sadness, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles are but a few. We can't help but wonder: how do you want to kill people in said titles? What wonderfully creative uses of the Wiimote can be conjured forth?

We can think of some good ones. Snapping someone's neck, slicing their throat with shards of glass, and shoving multiple Pez dispensers down their throat. Beat that! Dazzle us with your wit!

Radio station in the clear after contest-related death

Remember the 'Hold your Wee for a Wii' contest that ended with one young mother tragically dead? The Sacramento radio station has been cleared of any possible criminal charges in the case. District Attorney Jan Scully indicated that the late Mrs. Strange, 28, participated voluntarily, knew what she was getting into, and showed no signs of serious medical problems before she left.

The radio station fired ten people in the aftermath of the highly publicized death, and the family's wrongful death suit, filed in January against parent company Entercom, is still pending. Their attorney, Roger Dryer, stated that he was unsurprised to see no criminal charges. "We do not believe the conduct of the individuals rose to criminal intent. It is consistent with our viewpoint from the beginning that the decision maker responsible was the management of Entercom."

"Hold your Wee" audio footage turns up on YouTube

"Maybe we should have researched this."

Get used to hearing that line, because it's probably going to be one of the most-quoted statements from the radio contest in Sacramento that seems to have resulted in the death of at least one woman. Footage from the show has turned up on YouTube and seems noteworthy as this story develops further. It is, however, striking in that it is likely to be the center of a lot of arguments regarding who here, if anyone, is at fault.

Radio station fires ten after Wii contest death

One of our readers called it in our comments on the original story: ten people have been fired from Sacramento's KDND 107.9, including several on-air personalities. The names of all ten have not been released, but it seems the parent company, Entercom/Sacremento, is working quickly to handle any issues of liability.

Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of rumors surrounding the water-drinking contest that resulted in the death of Jennifer Strange, including one that a nurse called into the show to inform the disc jockeys and contestants that what they were doing was dangerous. All we can say is that we hope this is resolved quickly and, for the sake of the family, disappears into the void of old news stories.

Your daily fix of funny

The "great and esteemed Ludwig" (his words, not mine) stumbled across this video today, and of course felt the need to validate his existence by immediately sending it to me. Though quite old (2003), the hilariously dubbed montage of several Nintendo classics has awesome to spare. Watch! And be merry.

(A small warning: this is perhaps NSFW, due to a bit of profanity in the first few seconds.)
