Blast! Another Blast Works delay? [update]

[Update: Majesco sent out a press release with a real release date on it! June 10. This release went out mere hours after our email to Majesco. Coincidence? Most likely.]

We don't know if this is official (but then no Blast Works date has ever been official), but Gamestop's release date for Blast Works: Build, Trade, and Destroy has moved from May 20 to June 3. If we weren't looking forward to playing the game, this carrot-and-stick routine would be comical, but really we're just angry. This was originally supposed to come out in October.

Amazon still says May 27. Best Buy says May 29. Were we regular shoppers and not game bloggers (which requires us to try to keep up with release dates and such), we would definitely have given up on following Blast Works by now. We'd just buy it whenever we happened to see it in a store.

Australia probably won't be last to get Brawl

According to an apparently reliable, but unnamed, source, Vooks reports that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be released in Australia on June 26. That's just one day before Europe's release (and still several months after both the U.S. and Japan, of course) but what a difference a day makes.

For that one glorious day, Australian Wii owners will be able to feel the pride of not being the last to receive a game. And it's such a big game! Of course, Aussie Wii fans got a taste of not-lastness with Mario Kart Wii, but timeliness is addictive.

Congratulations, Australia. That is, if it's real. If this turns out not to be true or if Nintendo delays Brawl again, we can only say sorry, Australia.

Blast Works delayed again, apparently

It was no mistake that Blast Works: Build, Trade, & Destroy didn't show up on our weekly releases list. We were sure that it was really going to come out this week, but just like every other time we thought Majesco would release the game, Blast Works has been pushed back. The new release date is still within the month, for now, so at least Majesco doesn't have very long to decide to delay it again.

According to Gamestop, Blast Works will be out on the 20th. Amazon says the 27th. We don't know if it'll really be out on either of those dates, but we will still want to buy it whenever.

Okami keeps us hungry like the wolf for three more weeks

Unless you have a PlayStation 2, you're going to have to be patient. Ready at Dawn's highly-anticipated Wii port of Okami has been delayed from its original March 25th release date to April 15th. Gamespot, who received confirmation of the delay from Capcom, conjectures that some of Ready at Dawn's resources were shifted to expedite the release of the PSP God of War game.

It could also be the case that Wii game publishers are quickly backing out of their March release dates, waiting out the coming Wii megaton instead of sending their games out to die. It's probably good strategy, although people who don't like fighting games are going to feel pretty unloved.

Baroque gets delayed? [update]

Update: It's official. The game has been delayed. Thanks to LordGek for pointing this out to us!

It looks like Baroque is getting pushed back yet again, as the release window of March is no more. Actually, it could still be on track for a March release, however word from gaming retail giant GameStop is that the game is releasing on the 8th of April. To add more credibility to this rumor, Gamefly is saying the game isn't releasing until the 10th of April.

While this is far from official word via Atlus or something, odds are that those of us dying to get our hands on the RPG will have to wait an extra month. And, hey, if there's one thing us Wii gamers have learned, it's how to wait for games we want.

Nintendo rubbishes Brawl delay claims

According to Nintendo, yesterday's news that Brawl had slipped to a fall release in Europe was nothing more than "pure speculation and guesswork."

But hold on, we hear you cry, wasn't Reggie Fils-Aime himself the source of this news? Well, yes, but it looks as though his comment was taken in the wrong way. Instead of saying Europe would be getting Brawl in the fall, Reggie simply stated that the game had been removed from the winter/spring release window. In other words, it was all a simple misinterpretation!

Here's EGM editor Shane Bettenhausen to sooth our fears: "Reggie did tell me (and the other media present) that the release had been pushed out of the winter/spring timeframe due to the amount of localization required to get the game up and running with all the various European languages. But Reggie did not say when Europeans will get Smash Bros., just that it would be at a later date than the US."

Phew! So perhaps now we can all stop shouting and angrily throwing stuff about (we've replaced the two posters we tore down, but our Chocobo plush is a goner).

Rumor: Europeans to get in on the Brawl June 6th?

We feel for you, European brothers and sisters. Ever since we got our panties all in a bunch because Super Smash Bros. Brawl got pushed back to March 9th, we never stopped to consider how you all felt. As of right now, you don't even know when to expect your game.

If rumor is to be believed, then your summer just got a bit better. German gaming site Gamer CC is reporting that the sixth of June is going to be the date Europeans will want to mark on their calendar, just a few days later than that pulled date Nintendo put up. Regardless of when the game releases (and if this date turns out to be true), make sure you stock up on ramen noodles and concentrated caffeine in liquid form ahead of time. You're going to want to make sure you have as much time for Brawl as humanly possible.

More waiting for No More Heroes in Europe

European gamers are already feeling pretty sensitive about No More Heroes, since they're getting the original Japanese version and not the "extra bloody" American version. Now there's one more thing to complain about, as Rising Star Games has bumped the release date back a week from February 29th to March 7th. That's not too long to wait, but considering that the game has been out for two months in Japan and one month in the U.S., we can imagine how it would sting.

In lighter news (to distract the European audience from the boiling rage they're sinking into), check out Suda 51's joking, Suda-like design idea for an 'adult' Mario game: "Maybe Mario could wear an Italian suit and have a machine gun," he hypothesized, adding, "But Nintendo probably wouldn't like that idea." Oh, Suda, you certainly do enjoy making games about professional killers.

Nintendo puts up Brawl PAL release date, yanks it down again, denies everything

With Japan fretting over possible shortages of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and North America absorbing the frustration of the game's delay, there's nothing like the ongoing suffering of PAL gamers to keep things in perspective. Forget shortages or delays -- here in PAL land, we don't even have a release date yet.

That seemed to change yesterday, after Brawl's page at Nintendo's UK site was sensationally updated with a release date of June 1st. CVG just so happened to be hanging around there at the time, and so wisely screencapped the date for posterity. This proved to be an astute move, as the page now displays -- surprise! -- a far more vague "2008."

What's more, Nintendo this morning denied the whole thing to Eurogamer, pointing out that June 1st is a Sunday, and that the appearance of the date was a simple mistake. Do we believe them, readers? Well, we suppose we have to, but a June release hardly seems far-fetched, either.

Wii Warm Up: Memorable delays

We've done some delay speculating, but we were wondering -- are delays really all that bad? Hear us out, for a second.

There's no question that delays are disappointing. It's not fun to look forward to something, only to find out that it's being pushed back. In the end, though, the frustration goes away. Once you get your hands on the game, all is forgiven and forgotten.

Or is it? Are there any game delays that you really remember? What we mean is, do you still get angry when thinking about any delays in the past? Five years from now, will you still be venting about the time that Super Smash Bros. Brawl got pushed back twice? Essentially, how memorable are delays to you?

Europe to wait for Okami, reckons insider

In news that caused us to throw our heads back and howl loudly at the moon, an "inside source" close to Eurogamer has informed the site that Europeans will have to wait until summer for Okami. According to the latest schedule, the game is still set to appear in the U.S. on March 25th.

It's not the first time this has happened with one of Capcom's Wii releases -- Europe may have had only ten days to wait for Resident Evil 4, but Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure took its sweet time getting here, and only launched last week. Then again, the Wii hardly sells in Europe, does it?

Aussies, it's not confirmed, but recent history suggests you might be in the same boat. Can you feel the love? Can you?

Wii Warm Up: How many delays?

Looks like GameStop (where they never met a preorder they didn't like) has begun taking orders for Mario Kart Wii and claims that, right now, it's looking like April for the game. But that's not really what we wanted to talk about; it just got us thinking about something else, a real question. How many times do you think Mario Kart will be delayed?

Yeah, we're being a little cheeky here. We love you, Nintendo, but let's face it -- you guys sometimes delay games. And it's cool. We want them to be nice and polished and pretty. But that doesn't mean we won't slyly lay some side bets on how many delays we'll suffer. So come on, throw out some numbers. Twice? Three times?

Shiren 3 not out of the development dungeon yet

Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 was originally planned for a February 28 release in Japan. While we'd like for it to be released as soon as possible so Sega can go ahead and announce a U.S. date (please?), we're all going to have to wait a while. The game has been pushed back to June, for good reason: to add more content, as well as improving the general quality of the game.

We aren't sure if this was Chunsoft's decision or Sega's, but since the delay was announced concurrently with the delay of Red's Dramatic Dungeon: Sakura Taisen, we suspect that Sega is cracking down on their developers. If you were Sega, wouldn't you be concerned about the quality of your releases? Maybe as a result of the extra time, we'll get an improved game along with an improved Koppa Wiimote holder.

Wii Warm Up: A matter of delays

Some of you were already discussing this yesterday in the wee hours when the news of the latest Smash Bros. delay hit, but we thought we might give the topic a place of its own. Do you think the delay of Brawl will result in a delay for Mario Kart ... or was a Mario Kart delay inevitable anyway? We actually think the latter is pretty likely, for several reasons. First, nearly all of the Wii's big first party releases have been through one delay or another, so what the hell, we've come to expect it. But there's also the fact that we haven't seen much on the title, and nothing lately, so that whole "early 2008" deal is looking like it might turn into "sometime later." And really, as far as we're concerned? That's okay. It's going to take our wallets (and social lives) long enough to recover from Brawl as it is.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed until March 9th

Super Smash Bros. Brawl just wasn't done breaking hearts. After the crushing disappointment of having our $19.98 preorders canceled, Nintendo's latest news is a kick while we're down. And not a fun in-game kick, from Yoshi or something. The regular kind.

The rumors were true. Nintendo of America has announced that Brawl is delayed until March 9th. The official reason? "Development is taking slightly longer than expected." We're just going to assume that the real reason is that Nintendo's taking the time to add (character you want). The Japanese release has been delayed, as well, until the 31st of this month. Masahiro Sakurai has apologized for the delay on the Dojo site.

For those of you who are counting, this is the second delay for this game. Once upon a time, we thought we were going to be Brawling online as soon as December 3rd. It's now ... considerably later than that, is what it is.
