There are plenty of other background characters that can be played with (some of which are fairly obscure), though only in certain events (such as trampolining). These include Shy Guy, Toad, the gut-churning Charmy, Espio, Cream, Boo, Bullet Bill (!), Goomba (!!), "Heroes Enemy 1," "Heroes Enemy 2," "SA1 Monkey," and -- nooo! -- Big the Cat. Sprint through the tape and into our gallery for a couple more screens.

Birdo & Silver & Jet & Donkey Kong at the Olympic Games
As if Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games wasn't already home to enough abysmal characters, a group of hackers have discovered a way to unlock numerous other unused playable characters in the title, including Silver the Hedgehog, Jet the -- ugh -- Hawk, and Donkey Kong (who would have been a welcome addition, actually). Birdo is also available, though comes with some sort of hideous facial deformity, as though the model never had its nose finished. It looks kind of wrong, truth be told. Not as wrong as this, mind.

Brawl Stage of the Week: Classic DK
This week we're featuring another classically themed stage, as the thought of creating retro levels on Brawl seems to fuel stage submissions. This one in particular is an interpretation of the original Donkey Kong arcade game, in which Mario made his first appearance as Jumpman.
Unfortunately, Donkey Kong won't be throwing barrels at you and there are no princesses that need saving. However, if you want a fun brawl on a nostalgia-inducing stage, check out "Classic DK" by blu_j.

Christina Aguilera's blasphemous Donkey Kong art
When we first embarked on our blogging careers, fresh-faced and full of hope, there were titles that we never expected to use. "Christina Aguilera's blasphemous Donkey Kong art," it's fair to say, was one such example.
Yet the world moves in mysterious ways, and so here we are, blogging about how pop songstress Christina Aguilera has hung the original version of the above artwork on the wall of her baby's nursery. That's right, folks: while Michael dangles his kids from balconies, and Britney has hers taken away, Christina surrounds her offspring with awesome Nintendo artwork. Titled "The Last Supper," this particular piece is by the artist Misha, and was created for the 2006 I Am 8-Bit Show.
Incidentally, if you want to be just like Christina -- and with an attitude to child-rearing like hers, who wouldn't harbor such aspirations? -- then great news! Prints of the above piece are available now at the Gallery1988 website for $75. That's ... actually tempting.
Wii Fanboy takes Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi for a test drive

I then realized I had to work today and couldn't get my game on. As the day progressed and I tapped away at my keyboard, putting up news items and other stories that all 12 of you readers care about, the game sat there in front of my monitor, mocking me. It was almost like some kind of evil temptation, as I thought about just ducking away from my responsibilities to play. I then realized that it is my responsibility to play! I've got to review the damn thing, don't I?
And when I heard that Joystiq's own Kyle Orland got a copy of the game too, I decided a few mutliplayer matches were in order. And in the interest of those who don't want anything spoiled for them, stop reading here. The rest of you can head past the break where the real action is.

Friday Video: LEGO Donkey Kong
Aside from all of the blogging we do here at Wii Fanboy, our lives are pretty much a vacuum, as we lack any real kind of incentive to keep breathing other than how hard our overlords at Joystiq will beat us if our post count drops. It's just the way life is.
But, we do have a lot of LEGOs. And it's scientific fact that anything combined with LEGOs is pretty much the most awesome thing ever. In fact, we have so many LEGO pieces, we're certain we could do our own version of classic NES games with them. Just like in this video.

Dojo update: Manaphy and Iwata asks
Today's dojo update is a pretty good one, as we not only get shown a new Pokemon that has a pretty unique skill, but also get another installment in Iwata Asks, where the Nintendo president not only apologizes for the Smash Bros. delay, but also talks about some other stuff. As interesting as that is, we're going to shift things back to the new Pokemon included in Smash Bros. Brawl.Manaphy has a unique ability where it will swap the hearts of two combatants. What this does is cause them to switch bodies, essentially changing your character should you get caught in Manaphy's ability. For example, you can see Zelda and DK switching bodies here.

Donkey Kong: Bargain Blast
After only about a month of availability, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast has had $20 knocked off its price. But it's not because it's a horrible failure or something -- it's just Amazon's Deal of the Day! It's not often that first-party stuff gets discounted so soon, even just for a day. If you're looking for a Donkey Kong-themed racing game on the Wii involving bongo-barrel-shaped jetpacks, then this is probably the game for you, as it's the only game that description fits. For now. With the extra money, you can go buy a couple of bongo controllers ... and ... not use them with the game!
Dojo update: The Kongs cometh
This short but sweet trailer starring Nintendo's simian twosome (along with cameos from Bowser's crack team of Mushroom Kingdom baddies) popped up on the Smash Bros. Dojo earlier today.
Featuring a truck loaded with stolen bananas, much stomping and chest-thumping from the elder Kong, and Diddy Kong dual-wielding a pair of deadly Peanut Pop Guns John Woo-stylee, it's almost enough to make us choose Donkey Kong as our fighter in Brawl when it comes out. Almost, but not quite.
