New Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles movie

Turn out the lights, get some popcorn and pull up to your computer: it's time for Extremely Short Horror Theater! This week, we've got a super spooky treat for all of you fright fans: a chiller from the masters of horror at Capcom, called "The Evil Residents and the Umbrella," about a town full of arthritic pedestrians terrorized by a group of militaristic, gun-wielding murderers! We're sure you'll have such a screaming good time that the name "Residence of Evil" will haunt you for years to come!

Wii Blaster coming June 27th

It's classy.
You've gotta admire it ... this thing is a gun. A real sawed-off shotgun feel to it, isn't there? As you might expect, such a beast of firepower is not a first-party product, but nevertheless, it's the first Zapper-like Wiimote attachment to hit shelves come June 27th. Not just any shelves, mind you ... it's a Gamestop exclusive.

An interesting note is the Nintendo Duck Hunt comment. We've seen ESRB confirmation of the NES classic, but as of yet, there has been absolutely no additional functionality in any Virtual Console game thus far. Hmmm ... it's enough to get those rumor-wheels a-spinnin' ....

Resident Evil 4 comparison puts "two Gamecubes taped together" to rest

Turns out it's just one Gamecube! Either that or Capcom is lazy. The evidence to support either conclusion is found in this Gametrailers video, which compares the Gamecube and Wii versions of Resident Evil 4 side-by-side. Major spoiler: they look exactly the same.

The sad part is, we actually don't know if the Wii can do better graphics than the original Resident Evil 4, because nobody has tried. Well, at least this version of RE4 has waggling. And it's not like the graphics were bad on the Cube or anything.

Get RE4 only two years late, instead of two years and two weeks

Shoot it OMFGDoes your hunger rival that of the undead horde? Grab a Snickers. If that's the case, you'd probably be interested to know that the extremely anxious will (probably) be able to obtain the Wii version of the much-lauded Resident Evil 4 several weeks early, via the import site Play-Asia. Sure, it'll cost you twenty dollars more than the standard U.S. price of $29.99, and it'll probably highlight your incredible lack of patience and discipline, but those pale in comparison to the two weeks of additional ecstasy.

This is not officially confirmed, so you might want to check back at their product page for updates if interested. If you do happen to obtain the game early ... or if you're reading this article from the far-flung future, in which RE4 has already undergone standard release, feel free to post your impressions.

Trailer for Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

She spins me right round, baby.Ever wondered exactly how you're going to make those Plagas stop biting into your skull in the new Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition? Wonder no more, dear friends, as a rather buried link in the official Japanese website reveals a lovely trailer just rife with waggle. Looks like pretty standard stuff: shake remote, move remote in circle, stab parasitic zombie villager in the kidney with remote, you know.

If nothing else, this trailer just kind of rekindled our fiery lust for Resident Evil 4 ... damn was that game good. You remember that time when you took on two Gigantes and dropped one into a giant pit of lava by ziplining across the room like a badass? Yeah. We do too.

Capcom wins at packaging

This is simply the coolest limited-edition box in recent memory. Forget the European Resident Evil 4 box. This Japanese Biohazard box is the business.

For 3,675 yen, which is a suspiciously low $30, you get an awesome 20-DVD-capacity Umbrella Corporation biohazard storage box (itself inside an Umbrella Corporation shipping box), two keys, warning tags, and caution tape to seal it up. With a case this cool, who even needs a game? You could always buy this and RE4 Wii Edition and build your own limited edition set.

Party like it's 2005 with more Resident Evil 4 trailers

Nintendo of Europe is featuring a couple of trailers for Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition that should help convey how cool RE4 is to those of you who didn't play it back on the Gamecube. They also do a pretty good job of reminding the rest of us that Resident Evil 4 was pretty damn cool.

After seeing the trailers and screenshots, we can feel ourselves starting to turn into Capcom's willing zombie minions. Maybe Wiimote aiming would improve the experience! Maybe waggle does trump a novelty chainsaw controller!

Wii Warm Up: Check out this RE4 boxart

Not so much a discussion topic today as it is a directed viewing. This is the boxart for the European release of Resident Evil 4. It's basically the PAL PS2 boxart, but white instead of red.

We are now totally okay with the tacked-on waggle controls, and the fact that it's a Wii port of a game that is two years old and can already be played on Wii, because it's got really nice boxart. We're not even being sarcastic. Too bad about the "Wii Edition" thing, but we'll look past that. So what's your opinion? Awesome boxart, or totally awesome boxart?

Wii Warm Up: Superfluous waggle

Some games, like the ubiquitous Wii Sports, use the Wiimote's space-age technology to closely map real motion into gameplay. This is generally regarded as "neat" and accepted by the masses, who run off to show their grandparents.

Other games, like the upcoming port of Resident Evil 4, make no such attempt to represent physical motion as virtual motion (outside of the new knife controls). In fact, some of the motion controls seem to be simulating button presses. Case in point, reloading requires you to hold B and shake the Wiimote. That's hardly more representative of the action of reloading a gun than pushing a button, or even going into a menu.

We sort of revealed how we felt there, but this isn't about us. It's about you. How does non-representative motion control affect you? Is it still fun to waggle, even when you're waggling abstractly?

EBGames says Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition on the way

According to a preorder listing found on EBGames' website, a new Wii version of Resident Evil 4 will be released on June 25th for $30. While we don't have any details on it, other than that EB thinks it exists, we can speculate about what it will include: the PS2 extras, if we're lucky, and a new Wiimote control scheme.

It seems a little shocking that companies are already porting Gamecube games to the Wii, although Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at the prospect back in August. We can't wait to see how one of the Gamecube's most impressive games benefits from the power of a second, taped-on Gamecube.

Mario is the downfall of our society

Yeahhhh. That plumber may have ushered in the revival and rebirth of the modern video game industry, but everything isn't all sugarfairies and butterscotch. A retrospective study on this phenom reveals some startling truths about our favorite crimson-adorned pipe-jockey: a history of drug addiction, racism, and dealings with the seediest portions of the underworld. Destructoid has put together an eye-opening list of the egregious offenses this plumber has leveled against you, the gaming populace, and it's your responsibility to educate yourselves forthright.

Resident Evil info coming next month

Chris needs a nap, those eyes have bags bigger than my luggage!
We now know that there is definitely a Resident Evil title planned for the Wii. It's just not Resident Evil 5, is all. Instead, evidence points toward a "Wiimake" of the original REmake on the GameCube. What evidence points to this, you say?

Well, the image above this post shows a rather large update on the game is planned for the September issue of this Japanese magazine. And who is that but Jill and Chris from the REmake? Coincidence, or merely there to fill the void of information on the title?

Top 10 GameCube games that need to be Wiimade

In the interest of keeping the pot stirred, GWN recently compiled their Top 10 list for GC games they'd like to see remade for the Wii. Since we're all about saving you time, we'll post the list below for discussion.
  1. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat
  2. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
  3. Pikmin
  4. Super Mario Sunshine
  5. Battalion Wars
  6. Odama
  7. Resident Evil 4
  8. Luigi's Mansion
  9. Beyond Good & Evil
  10. Donkey Konga
We'd have to say that Resident Evil 4 is by far our favorite of the list as the chance to shoot Spanish-speaking villagers playing host to a disgusting life form in the face using the Wiimote is something we cannot pass up. We can't imagine that Eternal Darkness could benefit much from being remade for the Wii. How about you guys?

Leaked Resident Evil Wii screenshot? [Update]

OMG, its teh dark!1one!!!
Everyone is calling hoax on this supposedly leaked Resident Evil Wii screenshot. Sure, common sense would dictate that these finger-pointing internet travellers are correct, stating that this could in no way be a screenshot for the proposed game for numerous reasons. Why would Capcom ditch the over-the-shoulder cam from Resident Evil 4? Surely such an interface would work wonderfully on the Wii, allowing the player to control the character's movements with the nunchuk, hitting its trigger button to cause the player's character to raise their firearm, naturally using the Wiimote to physically aim at and shoot enemies.

In all honesty, it'll be an uphill battle to validate that this screenshot is from the game. That is, if it's actually from the game.

[Update: Proved to be a screen shot from the Resident Evil REmake on GameCube. We apologize for not noticing initially, but we always play as Jill.]

Rumor: Ubisoft character making Super Smash Bros. Brawl roster

By way of DS Revolution, we're to believe that a gamer, who naturally has an inside source at Nintendo, is telling him that a few of Ubisoft's most notable characters are being looked at to be included in the roster of characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Of Ubisoft's long line of franchise characters, the proposed character has been narrowed down to Jade, Rayman, the Prince, and Sam Fischer.

Now, this is purely a rumor, but the thought of either Jade or Sam Fischer being included tickles my fancy in ways it was not meant to be tickled. Obviously, Sam versus Solid Snake would be a stealth fan's dream come true, but the thought of Jade getting in the spotlight again, which would then help bring us a much needed sequel to Beyond Good & Evil, is too much to pass up. Yes it's a rumor, but who would you like to see the cut if it turns out to be true?
