Analyst: Wii still in lead by 2011, PS3 close behind

Ah, here's something else to place in the next time capsule we bury at the bottom of the Wii Fanboy garden, along with our copy of Cruis'n (we feel future generations should understand the horror). Research company Screen Digest broke out the pencil crayons and came up with the graph above, forecasting exactly how the now-gen console race will look come 2011. And while things don't look, erm, massively promising for Microsoft and the Xbox 360, Screen Digest has the PlayStation 3 almost neck and neck with the Wii by year-end 2011.

Naturally, we'd advise taking this with a rather large dose of salt, because this industry has proven time and time again to be an unpredictable beast. After all, would such a graph have been published one year before the Wii first came to market?

Wii Warm Up: Nintendo next

There's been a lot of speculation about a Wii 2.0, i.e. a half step up from the Wii, ala the DS Lite to the DS ... and of course, as soon as consoles debut, some future-watchers start looking immediately ahead to the next generation. In light of that, we wanted to ask you about your predictions, from practical to utterly wild, about Nintendo's next console move. Will we see a Wii-plus, complete with a hard drive and some other increased functionality? If so, when, and for how much? Or will Nintendo skip straight ahead to the next generation? If so, when will we see that, and what will it be like? The possibilities blow our minds.

[Thanks for the idea, vidGuy!]

The future of Wii channels

Deliicious.IGN has used their precognitive abilities to figure out a few of the new Wii channels we'll be entitled to over the next several years. Detailed descriptions and pretty Photoshop jobs litter the page, but the true genius of this article lies at the very bottom, almost hidden away from the public: a zip-code based online pizza delivery channel. Oh my God. We now hail IGN as Nostradamus, and prepare for the true wave of next-gen pizza delivery.

Pizza.

Awesome.

The possibilities of motion

Spirited away in the PC Gaming section of IGN is a rather well-written editorial of the past, present, and future of motion-sensing controllers. It examines how the PS3's and the Wii's new controllers might introduce a new visceral thrill into many tried-and-true genres, how it might attract new gamers, and so on. It's nothing terribly new, but it does have some interesting comments from the MIT professor/video game enthusiast Henry Jenkins, a revelation about how bouncing puppets might appear on the Wii, and a convenient collection of each company's stance on the future of input devices. Take a gander, if you're willing.

[It's so bad.]
