Gamefly sales continue to tempt us

Gamefly is having a sale on some of its used-but-in-great-condition games again, also offering free shipping to spice up the deal a bit. As always, we're passings these savings along to you, while picking out a few we think are worth highlighting for their respective prices:
Click on the picture or "source" link to see the full list of Wii games, but keep in mind that you might be able to find some of them cheaper elsewhere.

Potential release dates for arcade classics and real classics

Gamefly's "Coming Soon" list has once again been updated, revealing titles and release dates that are probably true and definitely noteworthy.

We've been waiting since GDC for an official release date for the Wii version of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, since SNK told us at the show that it had been pushed into Q4. The press release from SNK about the PS2 and PSP versions mentions that Arcade Classics is expected in October. Gamefly now says it's coming July 30th, which is in a much sooner Q! We're inclined to go with SNK's word, but release dates change!

If you envy the WiiWare Yakuman Mahjongg game, you may be interested in Crave's Solitaire & Mahjong, which is apparently coming out on September 19th. It's on a disc, but it is at least (kind of) announced for U.S. release.

Cheap prices are buzzing around GameFly

If you're one of the cool kids that visits Wii Fanboy often, you probably know that we love bargains. Even more so, we love sharing them with you. We thought we'd tell you, then, that aside from Circuit City having some sweet deals this week, GameFly is also looking to take money out of our pockets.

From today to the 19th, GameFly is having a storewide sale, which means cheap games galore. The catch is that they're used, but that's not a big deterrent since the game conditions are usually tip-top.

Some highlights include:
We also found some other nice sales over there, so it's worth checking them out if you're craving a new (yet used) Wii game.

An even Hottester Party this fall?

Konami wrote themselves into a corner with the title of their Wii Dance Dance Revolution game. If DDR Hottest Party is really the hottest party, what will the inevitable sequel be? Will it be a different superlative -- the coolest party, or the freshest party, or the most Chex-Mix-having party? Will it be the Hottest Party For Real This Time -- Last Time Was the Hottest to Date, But This Time's Even Hotter Than That?

Well, if the title of the new game found on Gamefly's site (with a release date of September 30th) is the real title, it'll just be DDR Hottest Party 2. It worked for Final Fantasy.

NiGHTS Gameflying out the door for $23

For an indeterminate period, Gamefly has marked the price of used copies of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams down to $22.99. If you were ever curious about trying out Sega's flying adventure, now seems like as good a time as any!

Unlike the sticker-marred, printed-instructions-bundled nightmare of buying rentals from Blockbuster or a local video store (as someone who spent hours at a previous job cleaning rental sticker residue off of NES cartridges: thanks, local video stores) buying from Gamefly is surprisingly okay. You get the original case and instructions in perfect condition, since Gamefly files them away immediately upon receiving their copies, and the discs are guaranteed.

Rumor: Chocobo's Dungeon to be open to American adventurers

We love Gamefly. We hear they're okay for sending games to people, which is great. But more importantly, they love to reveal unannounced games to us. Case in point: their "Coming Soon" page includes a listing for Final Fantasy: Chocobo Dungeon. We've long suspected that Square Enix would decide to localize their adorable roguelike, Chocobo no Fushigi na Dungeon: Toki-Wasure no Meikyuu. There's really no reason not to believe Gamefly on this one. It's currently marked for a July 3rd release date on the website.

Also found on the "Coming Soon" page: oddities! Like Space Chimps! Well, that's not really that odd, since there's a CG movie coming out by the same name. Anything called Space Chimps qualifies as odd by default, though, we think. But much more unequivocally odd is Guinness Book of World Records ... the game! Look forward to that this October, according to Gamefly.

Rumor: Wacky Races to be dug up again for the Wii

According to a Gamefly listing, Eidos will release a Wii/DS game called Wacky Races in June. It's entirely likely that this will be a racing game based on the moribund Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which featured road races between Dick Dastardly (and Muttley), who we vaguely remember as being annoying jerks, and a bunch of characters nobody remembers.

This wouldn't be the first time a Wacky Races game has been released in the 37 years since the show ended. Atlus published a NES platformer starring Muttley, and in 2000 Infogrames published a cel-shaded-looking PS2/Dreamcast racing game. We don't really understand the continued publisher interest in Wacky Races -- it was an okay cartoon, but doesn't seem to be especially popular or relevant today. Perhaps these publishers are simply extremely terrified of coming up with original characters for a kart racer.

Baroque gets delayed? [update]

Update: It's official. The game has been delayed. Thanks to LordGek for pointing this out to us!

It looks like Baroque is getting pushed back yet again, as the release window of March is no more. Actually, it could still be on track for a March release, however word from gaming retail giant GameStop is that the game is releasing on the 8th of April. To add more credibility to this rumor, Gamefly is saying the game isn't releasing until the 10th of April.

While this is far from official word via Atlus or something, odds are that those of us dying to get our hands on the RPG will have to wait an extra month. And, hey, if there's one thing us Wii gamers have learned, it's how to wait for games we want.

Band Mashups possibly gets a title mashup

Gamefly is listing an upcoming Wii game from THQ called Battle of the Bands. Since THQ's Band Mashups is a game about ... battles of bands, we're guessing that this is an alternate title for the same product. Further evidence of this theory: the page links to Gamespot's and IGN's galleries of Band Mashups. The final, conclusive piece of evidence: THQ's own website. But is this an older title or a newer one? Did it change from Battle of the Bands or to Battle of the Bands?

As for which title is better, we're of two minds. Band Mashups is more clever, and accurately describes the major gimmick of the game, but Battle of the Bands is familiar and even iconic.

Lost in Blue possibly landing on the Wii

Gamefly has always been a great source for finding out about new games, and thanks to some sleuthing from the folks at Siliconera, another one may have been revealed.

According to a listing on the game rental site, Konami's DS series Lost in Blue might be jumping ship to the Wii. As Levi points out, the game can be an even better fit on the Wii than it was on the DS. While the DS is a great system for adventure games, the Wiimote might make the minigame portions of the title more fun and less tedious. Furthermore, we've already seen that point-and-click works well on the Wii, so Lost in Blue has the potential to become a welcome addition on the little white console.

We know that a lot of you are fans of the quirky survival series, so what are your thoughts on this rumor?

A bit less waiting for No More Heroes?

Potential happy news from retailers: according to Amazon, GameCrazy, and Gamefly, the release date of No More Heroes has been moved ahead, from early February to late January. Amazon and GameCrazy list the game as releasing on January 22nd, while Gamefly places the game's release on the 24th.

We applaud this decision, if, in fact, it is a real decision that was made and not some weird error. From a sales perspective, any move to prevent No More Heroes' burial by Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a good move (even placing it where it will be buried by waiting for Super Smash Bros. Brawl). From a personal perspective, we might get to play it sooner and that's all that's important.

Get some used Wii games for cheap

GameFly is not only having a sale on DS games, but Wii ones as well, giving even more of a reason for you to bleed your wallets dry (you heartless, vampiric spendthrifts). Just be careful not to get tricked into buying games like Wii Play (which would be a great deal for $29.99 if it came with a Wiimote, but it doesn't) and Ninjabread Man (because it's crap). Still, you can find plenty of things to spend your money on should you be so willing, so you'd best mosey on over there before the pickings get slim.

Rumor: Wii to suffer like G did

The Wii's status as the home of light gun games is totally cemented, if this incredible rumor is true. According to NeoGAFfer King Zell and a mysterious Sega Europe PR statement that we can't verify, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 have been announced for the Wii as a single-disc collection.

What makes this rumor more plausible is a Gamefly listing for The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return. Gamefly tends to be right about these unannounced games! If this is true, we will absolutely buy The House of the Dead 2 again, with III (which saw a home release on the Xbox) as a bonus.

Psst, Sega ... if you do get House of the Dead 2 running on the Wii: may we remind you that the Wii supports USB keyboards?

Konami hopping on the ported shooter bandwagon?

It looks like we aren't the only people who have been paying attention to Ghost Squad. Konami has decided to dust off an old arcade light-gun game for the Wii, as well. But rather than pulling one of their own games like Lethal Enforcers out of their back catalogue, they appear to have opted for Raw Thrills's 2004 arcade shooter Target: Terror. That's according to a new Gamefly listing-- which, of course, could be mistaken, or could refer to a completely new shooting game called Target Terror.

Target: Terror is a full-motion video shooting game in which, like in Ghost Squad, the player shoots a bunch of terrorists. Unlike Ghost Squad, the game features real-world locations and ... let's say emotionally charged situations, including a scenario in which the player must stop a hijacked plane from crashing into the White House.

We hope this turns out to be a different game.

Ha-ha, rumors!

Gamefly, longtime supplier of pre-announcement reveals of new games (they also rent games, or whatever) now has a listing for a Wii version of the PS2/PSP Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law game. For those of you who outright refuse to read news about games on other platforms, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law is a Capcom-published adventure game in the same format as the Ace Attorney series, but with the cast and writers of Adult Swim's Harvey Birdman.

This needs to happen. We want to play this game anyway, being fans of both Phoenix Wright and Harvey Birdman, and we'd totally prefer using the Wiimote to navigate its menu-driven interface. Plus there's that whole liking-the-Wii thing that is, you know, the premise of this website.
