Torrent of TurboGrafx-16 titles set for Australia's Virtual Console

Making up for its delayed arrival to Australia's Virtual Console, the TurboGrafx-16 will debut in the world's smallest continent next week with eleven releases! Hudson's VC site lists that over a third of the games will be shmups -- no big surprise there -- but classics like Dungeon Explorer, Military Madness, and Bomberman '93 are also set to appear at the system's opening ceremony.

The US, having been spoiled with dozens of TG-16 releases since the Wii's launch, will receive only one PC-Engine title next Monday: Dragon Spirit, an impossibly hard, vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up in which you pilot a blue dragon. Check past the post break for Hudson's planned releases across all territories this July.

Another VC Monday, another shooter (or two)

Three games up today for the Virtual Console in North America -- two disparate shooters and, just to mix things up, a racing game. Though after Gradius, we're not sure if Nintendo shouldn't take a break from scrolling shooters in favor of something a little different for a while, since after Gradius, there's many a game that just doesn't seem quite as good. And according to you guys, the VC needs to start branching out a little more anyway! Perhaps next week. For this week, however:

Xevious (NES) -- 500 points
R-Type III: The Third Lightning (SNES) -- 800 points
MotoRoader (TurboGrafx 16) -- 600 points

[Thanks to everyone who tipped us on this!]

VC Friday: Mushroom, mushroom

It's Friday, and for our European friends, that means it's time for another Virtual Console update. This week you guys get some super classic goodies, which makes up for the fact that there's only two classic goodies.

Super Mario Bros. (NES) - 500 points
Motoroader (Turbografx) - 600 points

When we first picked up Super Mario Bros. over here (we couldn't resist), everyone immediately started singing/humming/otherwise-recreating the theme, loudly and tunelessly. Thus, we recommend earplugs for the first foray into this one ....
