E308: Naruto tries out the new Interview Jutsu

We've seen screens, dabbled a bit in gameplay footage -- now it''s time to get a word in edgeways from Glenn Stotz, introduced as a Naruto "product specialist." A paid Naruto fanboy, perhaps? And here we are watching the series for free like suckers, when we should be raking in the cash. Le sigh.

Stotz talks about Clash of Ninja Revolution 2, which is a pretty ambitious product with a deep storyline and a huge range of Wiimote gesture controls. It's a fighting game at heart, but we wouldn't mind a fighter that actually tries to present some semblance of a plot. Watch the interview and you'll see that Naruto is a perfect license for doing exactly that.

...

Believe it.

E308: Naruto believes in this new trailer

If all-out battle royales are your thing, you might want to check out the above trailer for Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2. It seems to meld the finesse of a fighting game with the brutality of a brawler, and evidently does a pretty good job of it. Hopefully, the key to winning battles won't just be spamming the Shadow Clone Jutsu over and over again -- we are looking for a nice, balanced fighting experience.

If you look closely, you'll be able to see a few on-screen indicators of particular Wiimote movements in combat. Gone are the days of pushing complex sequences of buttons rapidly to execute attacks -- fighting games have evolved somewhat to recognize fluid movements as a valid form of control. It works -- believe it.

Naruto: Clash of the Screens ... 2

As a plucky young ninja, Naruto does heaps of fighting. More fighting than a mob of pre-teens looking to grab that last copy of Pokemon Rangers 2. The difference here is that Naruto -- the anime -- is pretty cool, and occasionally spawns a few decent products -- the games. Today's Naruto game is none other than Clash of Ninja Revolution -- the sequel.

We heard about Clash of Nnja Revolution 2 a while back, and it was better-than-bad news, considering the original isn't too shabby. It's not amazing, but hey -- sequels are designed for improvement ... right? If you think the screens in the new gallery below show a promising future for Naruto games on the Wii, let the public know. As a Pokemon-esque anime phenomenon, it's pretty gosh darn entertaining -- and we want awesome games to come along for the ride. Believe it!

Naruto: Clash of the sequel

Tomy continues to dish out Naruto games faster than you can blink, this time promising a Clash of Ninja Revolution sequel for the Wii. Although the odds of a sequel were likely, news of the game was recently confirmed in the latest issue of Shonen Jump. Developer 8ing promises that the fighting game will have even more characters than before, including Choji and Kiba. Is there anyone else that you Naruto fans are hoping will make an appearance?

Shonen Jump also reports that there will be destructible and explosive objects added in to make the fights more interesting, as seen in Naruto Shippuuden: Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX2. Furthermore, the westernized version will have exclusive story elements and environments not seen in the Japanese game.

The only other news we have on Clash 2 for now is that it will support multiple control schemes, including the GameCube and Classic controllers.

Naruto sets its sights on Europe

Have you been needing a Naruto fix, Europe? Nintendo announced today that Clash of Ninja Revolution will be hitting European stores on March 28th.

The game might not get the ramen-filled welcome that it received here in the U.S., but if you're looking for a fighter and have no plans to freeload Brawl, then Naruto might be your best bet.

The press release also boasts that the "European version of the game features the largest number of playable characters from the Naruto series and introduces several prominent and popular characters for the first time." We're not sure if this means there are extra characters for Europe, though, or if that's just a poorly worded way of telling us about the features available in Clash of Ninja Revolution. We suspect the latter.

Saturday: ramen eating contest, Sunday-Tuesday: cleanup

In order to promote their new Wii game, D3 Publisher and Tomy will hold the Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution World Ramen Noodle Eating Championship at the Nintendo World Store this Saturday. Apparently-well-known champion eaters will come to compete at the chopsticks-only event, including "Crazy Legs Conti, a man who once ate his way out of an 96-cubic foot box of popcorn." Tens of dollars worth of ramen will be consumed at this event, which is only part of the Narutosity taking place at the NWS.

The store will also have stations set up for visitors to try out the game (the Naruto game, not the eating-a-bunch-of-ramen game) and play the Naruto CCG. In addition, special gifts will be handed out to 1500 people who dare to walk around New York City in those headband things. Perhaps most excitingly, a one-of-a-kind Naruto DS Lite will be given away. Will it smell like chicken broth? Probably!

Naruto game announced ... but which one?

You might have to take some notes on this one, because it's a little complicated, especially since the games involved have very long, very similar names. Tomy and D3 Publisher have announced a new Naruto game called Naruto: Clash of Ninja MVZ, to be released on the Wii in the US with exclusive new content.

However, exactly which Naruto game it is is somewhat of a mystery. The unruly (but perspicacious) NeoGAF horde thinks that it's not the Wii Naruto (Naruto Shippuden Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX) that just came out in Japan, but rather a port of the Gamecube Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 with some new characters, minigames, and, we would assume, new controls.

But Gamespot is reporting that we're getting a version of EX with the animations and characters changed to reflect where the US localization of the anime is in the Naruto storyline.

We don't exactly know what's going on. There will be a Naruto game of some kind on the Wii this fall, and the rest is obscured by ninja trickery, deployed in a successful attempt to confuse and disorient us.

Wii Warm Up: Imports

Recently, a technique was discovered to allow Wii owners to play import Gamecube games. However, a method of playing imported Wii games still eludes us, outside of buying a Wii from another region. We're sure someone will come up with something, but for right now, we're stuck in our own territory.

We want to know-- how important is this to you? Are you ready to open up your system as soon as a solution comes along, just so you can play the new Naruto? Will you be the first to place an order for a swap disc, if one comes along? Or are you completely uninterested in, for example, pachinko?

Some pretty sweet Naruto swag [update 1]

In receiving their copy of Naruto Shippuden: Geiktou Ninja Taisen EX, the fine folks over at Siliconera received the pictured swag with it. In case you have no idea what it is, it's a kunai pouch, used by ninjas to hold their (you guessed it) kunai. The folk at Siliconera found that it is better-suited to hold a Wiimote and nunchuk, instead. We couldn't agree more.

Hopefully the game will release to other territories with this swag, as well.

Update: whoops, typo!

Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX trailer generates excitement, eyestrain

Takara Tomy have stealth-released a new trailer for Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX, the Wii sequel to the popular Gamecube 3D fighting series, and it's looking ... well, heavily compressed. It's hard to tell how the game looks based on the size and quality of this video. Despite the technical difficulties, there were a few noteworthy things we could glean from the video, and its now-standard use of the "picture-in-picture of person making Wiimote gestures:"
  • There are a lot of characters in the game.
  • They fight each other.
  • Adorable children can control this character-fighting with Wiimote and Nunchuk motions.
We can assume that the new one will look at least as nice as the Gamecube versions, and will probably have new characters and some new moves and such. Previous Naruto games have been well-received; we are crossing our fingers that the new one will be just as good, and that the motion control is fun and not gimmicky. We think we should have started crossing our fingers after typing this post.

Friday video: Elebits + Naruto = love?

We love all sorts of game-related videos, from straight up footage to fan-made homages, but videos that blend several elements from pop culture are always fun. Continuing the theme from last week's dramatic look at Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a similar video, though much lighter in tone. This one features those super cute Elebits and music from Naruto. Check it out after the jump!
