Virtually Overlooked: Prince of Persia

It's actually kind of insulting that we don't have a version of the classic Prince of Persia on the Wii. Ubisoft, who currently holds the rights to the series, went so far as to (hire Gameloft to) produce a high-definition 3D remake of the game for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, and we have nothing.

There are at least five separate versions of the original Prince of Persia available on systems that the Virtual Console supports -- although there's probably a matter of permission from the original publishers and developers of those versions. We know that Ubisoft isn't against porting Prince of Persia games to the Wii, since one hundred percent of the currently available PoP games on the system are ports.

Ubisoft 'hope' to see Prince of Persia game on Wii

With the odd exception, the Prince of Persia series has maintained an enviably high standard throughout its nineteen-year run. Sadly, it's not something we've seen enough of on the Wii, apart from a slightly idle Ubiport. We want more of his royal leapiness on Nintendo's machine, and now Ben Mattes, producer of the cel-shaded Prince of Persia on the HD consoles, has sparked hope in our fanboy hearts.

Although he admitted that a version of the latest game wasn't heading to Wii, Mattes told Destructoid that he admired how the Wii port of Rival Swords (which he produced) felt with the Wiimote and Nunchuk. "I hope that we will see another Prince of Persia game on the Wii," he said. "Because [...] I really liked the way the Prince's movement translated to the Wii controls. I think that it's really kind of a natural fit."

Another natural fit is Prince of Persia games and our money, so get cracking, Ubisoft.

The Wii owners' Sunday shopping guide

This week's Sunday ads bring some interesting sales and deals to the table. Most noticeably, it seems like Bully: Scholarship Edition has had a universal price drop, and now only costs $30. Circuit City is the only store to advertise this, but from checking around at other retailers, the slashed price seems like the rule and not the exception. While $50 for the port might have been too expensive for your tastes, $30 sounds a bit easier to swallow.

All the other deals worth mentioning will probably only motivate folks who were already on the fence. Best Buy, for example, is offering a $10 gift card to those who purchase Alone in the Dark. As for Circuit City, the retailer has a handful of $20 games marked down to $15 (Balloon Pop, Furu Furu Park, and Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, namely).

Topping it all off is Amazon's "Deal of the Day," which ends at 3am EST. Here you can find ezGear's Wii Rechargable Battery and Charger, which you can use to charge up your Wiimotes. We're not sure how reliable ezGear is when it comes to third-party accessories, but for $10, this dock might be worth a try.

Hopefully your wallets will come out unscathed from this gauntlet of deals, but if not, feel free to rant at us for our evil, tempting ways.

Imagine: Princez of Persiaz

The Wii might not be Prince of Persia-less, after all. With Ubisoft's track record on the Wii, though, we're not even sure that's a good thing.

Recent rumors "reveal" that Ubisoft made mention of a new Prince of Persia game for the Wii at Ubidays. According to LiveWii, it will be a spin-off of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but other than that, few details are known.

As you might imagine, gamers can't help but be jaded by such a rumor. If it's an Ubisoft Wii game, it must either be bad or full of minigames, right? We love it, though, when people put such cynicism into picture form. That's why we've posted a handful of them (made by NeoGaffers) after the break. Even if this turns out to be a rumor, we're glad it existed just so that we could look at such silly and cynical images.

Be warned: One of the following pics is adorably NSFW. (That will make sense once you see it.)

New Prince of Persia not coming to a Wii near you

Despite us getting excited about a Prince of Persia prequel back in October, it looks like we're left out to dry on the new Prince of Persia game that was recently confirmed. According to a post over at Nintendic, the odds of us getting this new game are pretty slim.

That's not to say that Ubisoft doesn't want to bring the franchise back to the Wii, however. They're currently investigating how to bring Prince of Persia back to the console. Let's just hope they put a bit more into it than their last effort, should it happen.
