RE 5's Kawata: Wii couldn't even handle RE 5's intro screen

We all would love to see Resident Evil 5 on the Wii. But, according to the game's producer, Masachika Kawata, the Wii couldn't even handle the graphics of the game's introductory screen. When asked about improvements on the game from 4 to 5, Kawata mentions the biggest improvement are the graphics, as "the title screen of this couldn't have been done on PS2 or Wii." We're not sure we buy that.

There's still a sliver of hope that there could be more Resident Evil making its way to Wii, however. During a separate interview with GameTrailers, another producer, Juntake Uchi, commented that Capcom would love to continue to support the Wii with the franchise. And, personally, we'd love to see them hook us up with something other than old ports.

Head past the break to watch the video.

Capcom does away with exclusives, goes multiplatform

Even before Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop hits shelves, Capcom has informed of its intent to go the way of multiplatform, doing away with console exclusives in an attempt to get more money, stating that as "a measure to counter the soaring costs of software development for the next-generation consoles, which has been a cause for concern, we have shifted our focus to the multiplatform strategy." That's what it's all about, after all, and in the end this move will likely benefit the industry as a whole.

Although we haven't gotten a chance to play the Dead Rising port yet, we'd like to see the Wii get some Capcom love on other upcoming titles, namely Street Fighter IV. Until that is announced, we'll just have to wait and see what they give us. Don't start holding your breath for that Resident Evil 5 port yet, though.

Top 5: Games Wii Are Jealous of

Rejoice, Wii-owners. You posses the only (un-modded) home console capable of hosting the greatest gaming catalogue of all-time. The Virtual Console's ability to provide an extensive back catalog coupled with the retail and WiiWare releases of Nintendo's latest instant-classics makes your system the inarguable flagship of Nintendo gaming. It's quite an amazing accomplishment: stuffing such immense gaming potency inside one little white box (save for disk space, you freakin' otaku).

Yet it'd be foolish and utterly fanboy-ish to act as if Nintendo were the all-powerful supreme chancellor of gaming. They are considered the best by many, but Nintendo is not the only company that creates amazing titles. Many of these come from third parties. Despite claims to the contrary, third party relations appear to be proceeding very well on the Wii. However, through a combination of first party titles on other systems as well as numerous issues which affect third party efforts, we must face the truth: good games sometimes go to non-Nintendo systems. Madness, right?! Here's our Top Five games that we wish Wii had.

Resident Evil 4 vs. Resident Evil 5

There's a lot of speculation about Resident Evil 5 coming to the Wii, especially after a statement made by Simon Jeffery added some fuel to the fire. Perhaps because of such rumors, or perhaps for fun, one fan decided to make a comparison between Resident Evil 4 and what we've seen so far of Resident Evil 5.

After watching the video, we don't see why the game couldn't come to the Wii. Granted, the graphics won't be as pretty, but everything else should translate simply enough. With that said, we wouldn't be surprised if Capcom one day ported the game, especially after announcing Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop for the Wii.

Of course, RE5 still has a long way to go in development, so there maybe something else under the title's zombified sleeves that will end up surprising us.

[Thanks, Adam!]

Rumor: Resident Evil 5 rears its ugly head once more

Simon Jeffrey, known around some parts as the President of Sega, is either very smart or ... not. It's a fairly simple story here -- he casually mentioned Resident Evil 5 in an interview about MadWorld, saying "when that [Resident Evil 5] happens on the Wii, it'll help," referring to attracting more hardcore gamers to the platform.

Later, he referred to the comment as a "slip of the tongue," but that doesn't mean it's not true. If it wasn't true, he would say "mistake". We're not going to hoist the confirmed flag or anything (as some have been awfully quick to do so), but a guy so high up in the industry couldn't possibly pull this rumor out of thin air on the spot, right? We'll keep you updated, so any RE5 hopefuls should stay tuned!

Wii Warm Up: Resident disappointment

Whenever we post about the success of a Resident Evil game on the Wii, usually a handful of folks will mention that they wish Resident Evil 5 was coming to Nintendo's console. To see if this was the majority's opinion, we figured that we'd bring up the question in a Wii Warm Up. So, what say you, unruly mob? Do you want Resident Evil 5 on your Wiis? And would you buy the Wii version (advantage: point and shoot) over the PS3 or 360 versions (advantage: oh-so-pretty)?
