Capcom: no plans for RE Zero Wii port outside of Japan

All of you that found your fancy tickled at the news concerning Resident Evil Zero, stop being excited right now. We're serious. Wipe that smile off your face right this minute! So help us, we will turn this blog around right now.

If you live in Japan, though, it's perfectly fine to still be excited about buying a new version of a game you probably already own. The Resident Evil Zero Wii port is going to hit your home turf and your home turf alone. Looks like the U.S. and Europe won't be getting their hands on this game (unless they want to import it), as Capcom pointed out to Eurogamer today that the company has no plans on publishing the title outside of Japan.

Oh well, at least we'll be saved from the hastily-slapped-together "extra features" like behind the scenes stuff and other junk that will surely make its way into this Wii port. But, then again, it is more Resident Evil to buy. We never really can resist plunking money down on Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil: Under Priced

If you're one of the few who decided this game wasn't worth owning at the $50 price range, you might want to give it a second look. Amazon's Deal of the Day has Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on sale for the low price of $30. As if the prospect of shooting horde after horde of the undead wasn't enough to sell you ...

But, in case it wasn't enough to sell you on the game, this should sell you on it. The game will also ship for free from Amazon, so no need to plunk down any extra dough there. If you don't know why we're so excited for an on-rail shooter, you haven't read our review of the game.

Note: If you're interested in this sale, don't hesitate. It was already pulled once while we've been watching it. The game is no doubt a hot item right now.

Umbrella Chronicles lurches toward a million sales

Capcom's on-rail shooter, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, is getting close to becoming a million-seller. It's been revealed that the title has sold 950,000 copies, with the million mark well within its reach. Actually, it could have already broken a million sales, as this data is current as of the end of December.

The game did a lot better than Capcom initially thought, especially in the U.S. and Europe where it sold the strongest, as the company reveals the title did 50% better than their in-house estimations. Personally, we don't know why they would think a game about shooting the crap out of the living dead and genetically-altered beasties alike wouldn't sell a million. Plus, with the Resident Evil name attached to it, how could it not sell incredibly well?

Resident Evil: Degeneration looks like a good Resident Evil movie

We understand that what is good and isn't good can be different from person to person, but if you enjoyed any of the Resident Evil movies, then shame on you. Sorry for being so tough, but those movies were bad. And, being the huge Resident Evil fans we are, we're finally glad to see that the wonderful universe these games are set in is being expanded through a CG movie. Sure, it's kind of biting off of Square Enix's style a bit, but who cares?! We're talking about Claire and Leon kicking zombie ass. We could only be more excited if this were a trailer for a new game.

Reminder: We're giving away a Wii Zapper and Umbrella Chronicles [update]

It's not the bundle you see above, but it is a bundle, per se. See, we're trying to unload this Wii Zapper and copy of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles we have laying around. We figured we'd share the love and spread the wealth. And who better to share with than the lovely readers of Wii Fanboy? Nobody, that's who.

So, be sure to head on over to the original post and enter for your chance to win. That is, if you haven't already and right now, you've only got a few hours left to do so. Remember, one entry per person, you must be a legal resident of the United States and you must be 18 years old to enter. Multiple entries will get you disqualified.

[Update: if you want to enter (and haven't already), you need to go over to the original post, linked above, and comment there. We've turned comments off on this entry to reduce confusion. Good luck to all who enter!]

WRUP: Pew pew edition

Many of you are probably rocking your Wii Zapper (hopefully gunning down some zombies), but there are also other releases to be considered this week. There's just so much to play right now! So, you can imagine our weekend is going to be chock full of game time.

What about you? What game (or games) will you be rocking? Did you get a Zapper?

Wii Fanboy Review: Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Before we start this, you might want to know that this blogger is a huge Resident Evil fan. I've got every Resident Evil game, countless posters, shirts and figurines from the various games. The original was one of the most important games in my development as a gamer. It helped make me the gamer I am today.

And when the franchise hit the GameCube, it was the icing on the cake. The Resident Evil remake that appeared on the system was amazing, along with Resident Evil 0 and the game that even franchise haters couldn't ignore, Resident Evil 4. As the first original game in the series on a Nintendo console since RE 4, this was an important game in my eyes.

One has to consider the other spin-off Resident Evil titles, also. You might be skeptical to try out Umbrella Chronicles because of the Gun Survivor or Outbreak games. This, thankfully, is not in the same league as that riffraff.

It's Wesker Day

We have two sources of Weskeriffic Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles updates for you, to celebrate this most auspicious of made-up Resident Evil-related holidays (right after the Feast of Tofu and Unlocking Week). First, Famitsu has posted a completely Wesker-focused update, which includes some new screens of the playable Wesker, and not much new information, other than that he's kind of a badass.

Second, the official Japanese Resident Evil page has updated with a new trailer (click on the "Movies" button, then the one marked "new", which focuses on-- you guessed it-- Hunk Albert Wesker. A very happy Wesker Day to all! Put on your traditional sunglasses!

Revolutionary: This Revolution Hasn't Been Televised

Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you REVOLUTIONARY, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities.

Thought of by many as the "Disney of video gaming," Nintendo has crafted themselves an image of family-friendly entertainment. But to certain generations and classes of gamers, the term "family-friendly" is synonymous with "kiddy," and immediately sparks disinterest. But ever since publishing Rare's Killer Instinct, they've been working on broadening the public's perspective. Trying to appeal to the bloodlust of the Mortal Kombat crowd didn't give them any headway, and as generations progressed and they've garnered more "mature-themed" titles, they still haven't been able to shake the "kiddy console" stigma.

Even after snagging the exclusivity to the Resident Evil series for a generation, Nintendo was largely overlooked by the Playstation-bred gamers that were brought up on the series. How much more will it take for Wii to be regarded as a platform that can satisfy the tastes of mature gamers?

Fresh footage of Umbrella Chronicles

If there's one thing we'll say about this video for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, it looks like reloading with the Wii Zapper is going to be a big pain in the rear end. Still, we're excited to play the game and can't wait to have a new title in the Resident Evil franchise to play. If you're one who doesn't mind seeing a large portion of gameplay before the title's release, then hit up the link below to check out some footage.

Fresh UC screens show Ken doll zombies

Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the dispatching of the undead. Old hat, we know.

But these new Umbrella Chronicles screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.

TGS07: Kohler says Umbrella Chronicles just better without the Zapper

Some people are all in favor of the Zapper, as we discussed this morning, but Game|Life's Chris Kohler is not among them ... at least, not when it comes to Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. After trying the game several times, he has consistently found that the Zapper is less optimal for this game than the simple naked combination of the Wii remote and nunchuk. At TGS, he was playing co-op with a freelancer who was even excited about the Zapper and its potential with the game. He played without, and she played with -- and halfway through, they switched.

Once finished, he asked her which she preferred ... and she agreed with him. The Zapper may end up being great for other games, but in Umbrella Chronicles, it seems to make actions ungainly rather than precise, particularly when one has to reload or pick up objects.

This makes us doubly interested in seeing how the shell affects other games, like the pack-in Link's Crossbow Training, but for now, we think we may just stick to the remote and nunchuk. After all, the remote is a pointing device all on its own, and we've seen just how fantastic it can be for shooting.

TGS07: Umbrella Chronicles trailer shows Wesker as a zombie?!

At two minutes and nine seconds in, the video shows Wesker as a zombie. Why do we think he's a zombie? Well, his mouth is covered in blood. Wesker's red eyes is something we knew from the conclusion of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, but he wasn't into eating flesh or anything (unless we missed something, which is possible considering how long it's been).

As for the rest of the trailer, it's pure gold for Resident Evil fans (we can't wait to bust caps in Nemesis). So, hit it up.

Check out some new Umbrella Chronicles scans

For all three of you out there that are as excited about this game as we are, some new scans have made their way onto this mess of tubes we call the internet. The scans are chock full of text, but do offer up some images of Chris and Jill frequenting some new locales. As if we needed anything else to get us excited for this game.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles jumps out of the internet at you

Capcom's new Resident Evil series site contains, yes, some stuff about the new movie and a PS2 bundle or whatever, but also -- BOO! New Umbrella Chronicles video! Right behind you! And by "behind you" we mean "on this website to which we're linking!" It's a regional figure of speech.

In addition to the video, you can read about the characters and setting of Umbrella Chronicles (people and places from old Resident Evil games, respectively) and look through a gallery of screenshots. Scary downloads are coming soon, but at the moment that link doesn't do anything. It'll be totally creepy when it does, rest assured.
