VC Monday Madness: Lost Levels and Sin & Punishment

Today is an exciting day for the Virtual Console, as us living in the states are gifted with a pair of titles that we never expected to get. Sure, the price may be a bit high for these titles when compared to other games released for those systems, but it's not that much to ask for considering they're new to us. Oh, we can't wait until after 9am PST to give these titles a download:
  • Sin and Punishment (Nintendo 64, 1-2 players, 1,200 Wii Points)
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)
As always, be sure to stop back later for our video wrap-up of this week's releases.

More Japanese VC updates: Fatal Fury, Thursday bonuses

Fatal Fury was released on the Japanese Virtual Console yesterday-- the release wasn't shown at the time we were writing the VC Tuesday update, so we missed it. We thought we'd give it a mention because it's the first Neo Geo game on the Virtual Console!

In addition to stuff that already came out that we didn't get to write about, Japan gets some bonus VC material tomorrow of the highest caliber. Super Metroid and Sin and Punishment are being released tomorrow, both of which should make up nicely for Super Thunder Blade.

Say, now that PAL regions have their Hanabi Festival and Japan has surprise Thursday games, you know what would be great? Some VC bonus stuff in America.

[Thanks for pointing out Fatal Fury, Almadi!]

Sin and Punishment rated by OFLC, English-speaking world cheers

Looks like Nintendo has come up with a clever response to one Kiwi gamer's complaint. It sounds kind of silly to complain about a lack of releases when your region is about to get Sin and Punishment on the Virtual Console.

Treasure's Sin and Punishment is basically the Holy Grail of Nintendo 64 games: a shooter from a very well-respected studio, which was never released outside of Asia. It's the N64 game that even N64 haters will drool over. This OFLC rating makes an upcoming Virtual Console release a near-certainty, and an Australian release portends a release for other regions, as well.

Now we're going to go play every rail shooter we own in celebration of this great news. Although we think that's pretty much just Rez, so it'll be a brief celebration.
