Facebook app helps you keep tabs on Wii friends

Just about everyone on this planet has some level of experience with a social networking site. Whether you approve of them or not, they do allow us to stay connected with one another and have paved the way for this Facebook app.

Developed by Sam Lu, this app allows you to keep your Wii number, as well as specific Friend Codes for the games in your library. If you're a fan of Facebook, it's a pretty good way to stay connected with your buddies who have a Wii.

[Thanks, Sam!]

Wii Warm Up: How many controllers?

As in, how many do you own -- and is it enough? We're surprised at the number of people we know who want (or already have) four, though nunchuks are less popular in our social circle. Few Wii owners we know feel the need to have a full set there. If you have more than one, where do you keep them all? Do you often use the whole set? Even wireless, if you have more than one nunchuk, even the slim, sleek Wii controllers can start to take up a fair amount of space.

Have a pint and a go at Wii Sports

Now, if we were combining beverage time with Wii time, the product would probably be what you see to your right there. We have horrible coordination and the combination of alcohol into the mix would mean that we'd either spill our drink into our Wii or fall on it. That's just how we're built.

You folks in England, however, have a bit more in the alcoholic coordination department, as playing the Wii has become the new "it" activity in the pub. It has inspired Team Europe, a company who manages Poker tournaments in pubs, to start up a similar tournament across pubs for the Wii. And, you can even find some tournaments going on right now, on a regular basis in London, should you be the type of person who enjoys immediate action. In fact, one such pub hosts a Wii tournament every Wednesday and enjoys a lot of support from the 30 or so players that show up for the event.

This is just another example of the wonderful social aspect of the console, if you ask us.

Wii Warm Up: Antisocial behavior

The Wii is a very social console. From the marketing campaign to the pack-in, everything about it is designed to get a bunch of people together and interacting in the same room. It can even be fun to have a group together for single-player games, with everyone helping out and enjoying the events of the game together.

But video games are not always social events. Sometimes you just want to get immersed in the game without all the interruptions and talking and people. Are you the kind of gamer who prefers to be alone with your games? Or do you always prefer to share your experiences?

Or are there certain games that you just can't stand having people in the room while you're playing? Killer 7 on the Gamecube, for example, was something we preferred to play alone because we didn't think others walking in would have a clue what was going on. Especially since we didn't.

Get social with WiiPlay.com

Nintendo may not (or may?) be rushing to fill any social networking niches for the Wii, but that's okay, for the internet provides. WiiPlay.com, a new site dedicated to producing a community hub for Wii owners, offers all sorts of goodies, like blogs and photo pages, or just a place for Wii owners to chat. We can only assume that once online play kicks it up to full effect, sites like these will be useful for finding new Wii friends, so we'll keep an eye on them and see how things develop.
