Pachter: Nintendo wins another E3

The analyst from Wedbush Morgan seems to think Nintendo walked out of the recently concluded E3 as the victor, for the second year in a row, commenting to gaming mag GamePro. He also commented that Sony would've walked away the victor, given news of their recent price drop for the PS3, but Nintendo still presented " new hardware and decent software introductions."

Of course, you already have our general impressions of the keynote immediately following it, but looking at the variety of content available for Wii owners now that the show has concluded, we're happy about the future of the Wii. And the experiences it'll provide.

Nintendo's competitors cut prices, but Wii stays same great price

Following news that Sony would be cutting the price of its PS3 console, rumors are floating about that Microsoft could be set to do the same with their Xbox 360 console. What does this have to do with us Wii-loving folk out there? Nothing, as Nintendo doesn't seem to think that Sony's price drop, or even a Microsoft one, is going to affect their great grip on the market right now.

George Harrison, senior vice president of communications for Nintendo of America, says that a "$100 price drop won't make a difference." Harrison goes on to wonder "Can Sony afford a $200 price drop? I don't think so." We're inclined to agree, since apparently the only reason to own one is for a 3+ year-old game, anyway.

Beautiful Katamari in Famitsu, but no sign of Wii [update 1]

There's a beautiful set of scans on Beautiful Katamari from the most recent Famitsu, but there's no sign of anything Wii-related; all the news is about the PS3 and the 360. It's enough to make a Nintendo fan weep. We want to roll up big balls and hear the screams of the city folk. We want to roll our big balls online, and we want to use our Wii remotes. What gives? Throw us a bone here, people!

Does this mean the rumors are dead? Not at all; the game is only half-completed, after all, and from the scans, we can't pick out any reason to avoid the Wii and we don't seem to be alone in that sentiment; many of the comments at Jeux France seem to share that view. Let's hope that, as Beautiful Katamari nears completion, the folks at Namco Bandai figure out that there is extraordinary demand for a Wii Katamari.

[Update 1: That was fast! Looks like we were tossed a bone after all 1UP has the following quote from Jun Moriwaki, director of Beautiful Katamari. "The Wii is also one of our platform choices .... However, the controller for Wii is quite unique so being able to overcome the different issues will be the key." That'll do, director. You go work on that, and we'll be waiting.]

Analysts predict Wii to win in February

It looks like those analyst-type folk over at Wedbush Morgan are thinking the Wii is going to crush much in the way it did during the month of January and we ain't talking orange soda neither. No, we're talking about consoles sold here, ladies and gentleman, and according to these suit-and-tie business types (we're a t-shirt and shorts operation), the Wii is going to sell close to 350,000 units in the U.S. for the month, a total of 150,000 more units than the PS3.

As for software, the firm mentions titles such as MLB2K7 and Virtua Fighter 5, which obviously are not available on the Wii. That doesn't rule out the possibility that the console couldn't have a game or two (or three) in the top ten, however.

Wii or PS3? Internet decides ...

Our sister blog Joystiq recently took it upon themselves to don the cap and tobacco pipe of one Sherlock Holmes, traversing the vast series of tubes that make up the internet to answer the most important question in the universe. And before we go any further, no you don't need a crazy super computer to provide us with the answer, which is not "42." After giving up their search, they found that a Japanese blogger had already done all of the work for them. Hooray for us!

Analyzing results from four of the largest social sites on the internet, the overall compilation of numbers results in the Wii kicking the PS3's ass up and down each tiny tube that together form a vast assembly of tubes that form an even vaster internet. Yes, we have a hard time letting a joke die (we're all for joke life support).
