Wii Warm Up: Does being able to play as Vader sell you on The Force Unleashed?

You all probably know that we're already sold on the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from LucasArts. Last night, it was revealed that the game will also feature an exclusive level where you control Darth Vader. This undoubtedly caused much excitement for some. Are you one of those people? Or could you care less about this game?

The Force gets unleashed on September 16th

Well, folks, we finally have a date for when the gates to a paradise of exploiting Force powers in a video game will open: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will release on September 16th in North America. Hot on the heels of yesterday's big reveal on the Wii version of the game, you can imagine we're pretty pumped for this. September? Can't get here soon enough.

But, wait, there's more. While those of us in North America are getting the game on September 16th, it will arrive in Southeast Asia and Australia on September 17th and release in Europe on September 19th. Pretty sweet, eh? For once, you don't have to wait a ridiculously long time for something.

Details unleashed for Wii version of The Force Unleashed

GamePro had some time to check out the Wii version of upcoming Lucasarts game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. During their time with it, they managed to sink their teeth into the robust PVP aspect (called Duel Mode, it allows for one-on-one combat between 27 different characters from the Star Wars universe) of the game, as well as provide details on how the motion controls will work. They even took time to compare the two versions of the game graphically, showing the difference in character detail and textures between them. But, who cares about graphics? The controls are where it's at, right?

For the chart containing the game's controls on Wii, click here or head past the break.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed lets you go nuts with the carnage

It may not be the Wii version, but it's pretty much what we should expect from the game: tons of carnage and asskickery using the Force. And even if the Wii version doesn't look as pretty as this, we're still getting exclusive levels to throw stormtroopers around in, which should be nice.

Any Dark Side enthusiasts out there looking forward to unleashing the Force?

Star Wars unleashes Wii-specific features?

Upon its inception, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has been a title mostly about displaying the destructive power of the force and explaining the origins of Darth Vader's apprentice. Oh, and there has been the dream of every fanboy to wield the Wiimote as a lightsaber.

Now, it turns out there is more incentive for Wiimote-swinging wannabes as it's been revealed by Krome Studios' Ed Tucker that the title will have five exclusive levels on the Wii. "On the Wii we have places where the story veers off and we go and explore something, take the game in a different direction, like the Jedi Temple level," he explains.

Wii owners looking to lose control with the Force can look forward to that come this August when the title releases.

Wii Light Sword lets you relive the shame of the Star Wars Kid

Ever since Nintendo's Satoru Iwata revealed the Wii remote's motion-sensing capabilities, gamers have been clamoring for someone, anyone, to help realize their deepest nerd fantasy -- using the Wii's controller to act out the Star Wars Kid video.

Now, for only £14.99 (approximately $31), you, too, can record an embarrassing video of yourself looking like a damn fool fighting imaginary Stormtroopers with your special moves. The peripheral uses three AA batteries (not included) to power its 22 LEDs, just like the lightsabers used by real-life fictional Jedi!

As lifelong fans of the original Star Wars Kid series, we can't begin to express how excited we are that someone is finally bringing some lightsaber action to the Wii. We're already making lightsaber sound effects at our desk while simulating a duel with our pens in anticipation. Swing past the break for a couple Star Wars Kid clips. Also, may the force be with you! May the force be with you all!

Star Wars Complete Saga: Invasion of Naboo

You know, we never played the first Lego Star Wars game because, frankly, Star Wars Episode 1, 2 and 3 were trash. Seriously, we couldn't find a single thing worth liking about those new movies, but this is not the proper forum to complain about them, we're merely presenting you with a why as to our avoiding that game.

The latest trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga has us thinking that we missed out hard though, as the invasion of Naboo level looks like all kinds of fun. And those graphics are pretty nice, too.

Who will be joining us in picking this up come next month?

Revolutionary: This is Not the Star Wars You're Looking For

Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you REVOLUTIONARY, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities.

Ever since the motion sensing ability of the Wiimote was revealed, Star Wars fans have been pleading for a game that would let them live out their Jedi fantasies, swinging the Wiimote in command of an onscreen light saber. Well, Lucasarts recently announced that the Wii will be getting a version of the multiplatform title, The Force Unleashed, a game that's expected to fulfill all your fantasies of being an power-infused enforcer with a luminous sword.

But Lucas & Co. haven't always given us just what we want. In 1999 they released the first chapter of the long-awaited Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Phantom Menace, to an audience that was expecting something more, well ... Star Wars-y. Jar Jar, midichlorians, and a pre-pubescent, mop-topped future-fascist didn't quite make for the hit we were hoping for, and the most exciting moment in the film was not a war or a fight scene, but a race. Lucasarts seemed to agree and developed a game based around that scene (albeit, filled out with more tracks and worlds). In this week's Revolutionary, we'll be using GlovePIE to see if the Wiimote and Nunchuk can keep up with the Jedi-like reflexes you'll need to stay in the lead in Star Wars: Episode I Racer.

Lego Star Wars controls revealed in a helpful video

While it might not be the 1:1 lightsaber movement we wanted in our first Star Wars game on the Wii, the controls don't look as if they're totally bunked. No, this is a game we can still very much play. We might get a bit tired doing so, but no pain, no gain, right?

What do you folks think?

[Thanks, zizzy!]

Developer diaries unleashed

The official website for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has dished a pair of developer diaries for the game. Focused on the motion-capturing aspects bringing drama into the game and coming up with the premise for the title, each of the behind-the-scenes looks at the game have gotten us drooling for what this title is all about.

Who doesn't want to "kick ass with The Force?"

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed coming to the Wii

If it's one thing that everyone has been dying for since the unveiling of the Wiimote, it's a genuine Star Wars experience. You know, with the Wiimote acting as a lightsaber, allowing us all to be the Star Wars Kid in the privacy of our own living rooms. Well, maybe Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is just what the doctor ordered.

Releasing in spring, the game will allow players to wield the Wiimote as a lightsaber and use the nunchuk to activate Force powers. The Wii version will be developed by Krome Studios and feature a Wii-exclusive duel mode, where friends can go head-to-head.

Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga gameplay demo

A new gameplay trailer for Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga has emerged on the net. In said trailer, we're shown all of the wonderful waggle that is sure to cause many a wrist to ache once the game releases. Maybe it's just us, but using the Force to assemble blocks looks kind of annoying. Using the lightsaber looks fun, though.

Check out the video past the post break.

An elegant announcement for a more civilized age

This is yet another confirmation of what every gamer has been waiting for since the first time we saw the Wii controller. At the Hollywood & Games Summit, panel moderator N'Gai Croal asked LucasArts president Jim Ward about the possibility of a Wii lightsaber game.

Ward's response was very encouraging. "We're all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It's a lot of fun, and we'll get there." He went on to say that "some stuff" would be out this fall. Start practicing your blind Force-guided waggling now.

Mii Spotlight: The Force edition

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, (or, last week in the Mii Spotlight) some pretenders rolled in here and tried to get everyone psyched about Star Trek. Please. We know what's better. We know that Star Wars is really where it's at -- especially when it comes to Miis. Does everyone have Spock on their Wii, ready to get his tennis on? We think not ... but there sure do seem to be a lot of Admiral Ackbars out there, ready to warn us of impending traps.

Star Wars game confirmed, lightsabers and all?

We'll call it "mostly confirmed," but according to this article on the Wii's financial success, George Lucas has said that a game that turns our trusty Wii remotes into lightsabers is on the horizon. Unfortunately, there's no quote to back up the assertion, so we remain partially skeptical, but it's one of those things that we just know is going to happen, whether we want it or not.

Anyone else just as interested, if not more so, in using the Wiimote and nunchuk for Force abilities in a Star Wars game? The upcoming sandbox-style Harry Potter includes motion controls that simply make us drool for similar applications in a Star Wars title ....
