Tom Clancy games to get more Wii love in the future

During an interview with GameDaily, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that the Wii would be getting more consideration in the future of the Tom Clancy series of games and "will appear at one point" on the Wii. The issue so far? Well, Ubisoft put time in on "engines that were created for the next-generation consoles" and had to "re-engineer a certain number of engines to be sure we could use the quality of the machine."

Guillemot went on to say the company's attempt to create "good enough products [on Wii] or products better than Nintendo's" just "takes time." That's the reason why we haven't seen much love on the Wii, but he assures us that we will "see more and more in the future." Sounds good to us, so can we get noticed when you finally start talking about Splinter Cell again?

HAWX takes to the skies

Rumors have hit the web that Tom Clancy's HAWX might be coming to the Wii, after the game was announced for the 360 and PS3 not too long ago. It's a high-speed flight combat simulator, a platform for military heroes to strut their stuff, and hopefully a graphical showcase for some serious dogfighting action.

There hasn't been any official announcement or media for the Wii version as yet, but several online retailers along with IGN have updated their listings to specifically include HAWX. Ubisoft is holding out on details for now, but the tentative release date of September 16 shouldn't be too far off the mark. Check out the official website to get all excited and stuff. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer won't be involved. Phew.

Tom Clancy's EndWar gets the blue shell treatment

Tom Clancy's EndWar isn't coming to the Wii, but the developers adopted a philosophy from one of Nintendo's most well-known franchises -- Mario Kart. Ubisoft representative Julian Gerighty told Shacknews that the company was concerned about making the game fun for the player who wasn't in the lead. Rather than be dejected by an insurmountable deficit, Ubisoft wanted the losing player to feel like they could come back at any time.

Thus, the developers channeled Mario Kart. Thinking of how certain items could help even the last place player feel like they're still in the race, Ubisoft developed a system that lets the losing player unlock WMDs first, and then fire off their cache before retaliation. As we haven't yet played this RTS, we're not sure exactly how that works or if it's as extreme as it sounds. Shacknews reports, though, that in their experience the leading player still won but it kept things fun for both sides.

What do you think of the Mario Kart philosophy? Do you think it's necessary for players to feel like they can catch up at any time? (The item system is clearly skewed to give those in the back better objects, for example.) Or, are you usually the one in first that hates this kind of luck-based turnaround? Also, how do you feel about other games adopting a system like Mario Kart's?
