Nintendo: Wii Music won't compete with the music game market

We would think so, considering that Wii Music is less of a game, and more of a toy, which makes it better than a game. Sorry for being so cynical, but come on, you have to be feeling the same way we do. But, onto the news at hand. Nintendo thinks Wii Music won't be competing with other music titles such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero.

Denise Kaigler, VP of Corporate Affairs at Nintendo of America, says "We're not competing [with those other games]. We're expanding. We're creating new experiences through Wii Music, new enriching opportunities for consumers to create something that's unique to their own musical tastes." Interesting, considering that all of these games generally fall into the same genre. But, the audience that would be receptive to Guitar Hero and Rock Band possibly could be different to that of the Wii Music crowd. It's kind of like a descending scale, from real musicians, to fake musicians (those would be the Rock Band and Guitar Hero crowds), and right down to people who like to play with toys. Toys like Wii Music.

Peach ate Mario's cake

It seems the glorious baked treat that Peach offered Mario at the end of his arduous Nintendo 64 adventure is long gone. She dumped his podgy butt in the moat and ate it all for herself, and seemingly continued to enjoy royalty snacks for some time afterwards. Peach has plumped up, and now you can buy her!

This eBay auction comes down to a matter of preference. Do you prefer slim, active Peach or hedonistic, pampered royalty Peach? Let you wallet do the talking. The idea of a plus-sized princess is actually pretty interesting. Someone should totally make a game out of it, although we're sure it'll never happen.

Petit missions in Petit Copter

Famitsu's got some much clearer screens of Arc System Works and Sonic Powered's Petit Copter, and it looks great! But we love the aesthetic of Dreamcast games. Those of you expecting next-gen may be less enthused about the visuals. We're pretty sure, for example, that those rings are supposed to be ring-shaped.

As low-key as the graphics may be, we think the mission types are even more so. The article reveals three kinds of missions:
  1. Taking off, flying somewhere, and landing
  2. Picking up something with a suction cup and dropping it off
  3. Shooting at some targets with a puff of air
Combined, these three activities could make for some really interesting missions! Alone ... no. Outside of tutorial missions, we have to believe they'll mix it up. The article mentions shooting at switches to manipulate things in the level, which sounds like it opens up all kinds of missions around the house!

Here's your chance at a private (Wii) helicopter

Do you sometimes get the urge to fly a tiny helicopter all around the house and yard? Y'know, just for kicks. Don't worry, folks -- soon you'll be able to do just that. In Japan, that is, but perhaps the Petit Copter simulation will make its way to English-speaking gamers as well.

Arc System Works, the force behind the minicopter, also announced Super Dodge Ball DS recently. If the name Petit Copter seems familiar, it's because it's an existing franchise; it seems Arc System Works is taking over publishing duties on the Aquasystem-developed games that have turned up on Xbox, PC, and PS2. Let's hope that means there's a slightly increased chance of a non-Japanese release in the future for this one! Head past the break to check out a couple of scans that are much, much bigger than the tiniest of toy helicopters.

Wii toys served hot off the grill

Fast food chain Wendy's plans to pack its Kids' Meals with Wii-related toys soon. The new knickknacks don't look like they're anything to fawn over, but that miniaturized and muddied Excite Truck might make a nice addition to your collection of Micro Machines and Hot Wheels racers.

Truthfully, we've never been partial to the restaurant's square-shaped burger patties or its bland french fries. Wendy's chicken nuggets, however, are like the real-world equivalent to Narnia's turkish delight. Families have been betrayed and wars have been set into motion over these bits of meat. The fact that we can get a pocket-sized Wii remote with these nuggets pretty much settles our schedule for where we're eating lunch at when this promotion goes into effect.

Ugliest Luigi ever

Poor Luigi. The lanky plumber already has enough problems dealing with his older brother always stealing the spotlight and Princess Daisy's failure to commit to a serious relationship, but now he has to worry about embarassing photos from 20 years ago resurfacing on the internet. We all have our fair share of unflattering pictures from the 80s, but the images posted for this vintage Super Mario Bros. doll auction are downright embarassing.

This 3.5'-tall toy was a promotional item from Nintendo that was never released to the general public. Head past the post break to see what the green guy looked like before he tamed his hair and trimmed his mustache. He really let himself go back then -- look at that hat!

New from First 4 Figures: Sheik!

First 4 Figures have released another well-sculpted, detailed figurine of a Nintendo character. The new figure is the fourth entry in their series of N64-era Zelda characters, focusing on the mysterious, much-cooler-than-Link Sheik.

Sheik stands about 9" tall and is in scale with the other figurines in the series. It will cost $109.99 and can be reserved now for shipping in the fall.

Ocarina of Time
is great, but we really want to get these figures to set up our own trophy table like the one in Super Smash Brothers Melee. But for $100+ each, we aren't sure if we could bring ourselves to make them fight.
