Call of Duty: Footage of War

Call of Duty: World at War ships in North America tomorrow, but if you want an early peek (and have the kind of job where you can get away with watching videos at work all day long), here's the first thirty minutes, starting with the Makin Island raid (and continuing after the break).

Be warned: as this is a Call of Duty game, and hence Just Like The Real Thing, it's full of naughty words from the beginning, not to mention the odd stomach-churning sight. It looks great, though, and is full of the spectacular set-pieces that we love the series for. With this, The Conduit, and the amazingly-not-terrible Quantam of Solace, shooter fans have a potentially exciting few months ahead.

Answer your Call of Duty this November

Veterans Day this year will be marked by silences, parades, and a bunch of people buying the latest Call of Duty game. Previous speculation that Call of Duty: World at War would launch in November has now been confirmed -- World at War will appear on November 11th, hopefully giving Wii owners an accomplished shooter to play before The Conduit arrives on the scene.

For some time, Activision has promised us that the (Zapper-compatible) Wii title will be "comparable" to versions on other consoles, based as it is on the Call of Duty 4 engine. We'll see how robustly such claims hold up a couple of months from now.

Call of Duty: World at War ships off this November

For those of you looking to get your hands (or your Zapper) dirty in the Pacific theater, know that the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty: World at War will be hitting shelves this November, according to OnlytheGames. They're claiming an Activision PR rep divulged this info to them and we're inclined to believe it. November seems to be a good month to release games.

Joystiq managed to pry a statement from Activision: "we haven't made any announcement about date other than fall of 2008." Oddly enough, November falls right into that timeframe.

E308: Call of Duty: World at War to utilize Zapper

During Nintendo's E3 keynote today, the promotional reel of third-party titles showed us something different about Call of Duty: World at War for the Wii. It will utilize the Wii Zapper!

Aside from a brief clip of a young gentleman having the time of his life with the game, Wii Zapper clutched firmly in his hands, we've nothing else to report on the matter. But, then again, what else more would you need? It supports the Zapper.

Fall in to the World at War website

Call of Duty: World at War has hit the intertrons! The official COD domain has always been a general-purpose website, but the latest information for the upcoming shooter has been granted its own dedicated section with a whole range of groin-grabbing goodies.

The whole point of the site is the get involved with everything Call of Duty. You'll sign up and create your profile, and from there you can complete a variety of "missions" to earn points and level up. This include posting in the forums and taking part in polls, but you'll unlock more missions the further you progress within the site.

Why does this sound like a video game? It's a website -- but a pretty good one at that. The Intel and Reconnaissance (that is, news and media) sections should be updated regularly, and a developer blog is up and running. Off you go, then!

Joystiq talks to Treyarch's Mark Lamia on CoD 5

While many of you are wondering how Call of Duty 5 ... uh, won't suck on the Wii, check out Joystiq's interview with Treyarch's Mark Lamia. He talks about the Wii version, how it will include online play and also has its own team dedicated to the Wii version of the game. It's a pretty interesting interview that covers some of the concerns Wii gamers have for the title, so head on over and check it out.

Call of Duty: World at War trailer really speaks to co-op gamers

Even though it was revealed earlier, a recent press release has confirmed co-op gameplay in the upcoming Call of Duty: World at War. While the other versions boast four-player online killfests, the Wii will have its own gimped "unique co-op mode for two players."

It's not all downgrades for the Wii's World at War. Senior producer Noah Heller is confident in its capabilities, claiming "It's going to look better than any Wii game I've ever seen on the market." Also, despite the online and co-op changes, developer Treyarch says "For all intents and purposes it's the same game." Top stuff, because Call of Duty 3 wasn't entirely up to scratch.

Hit that big play button up there to check out the debut trailer for World at War. Officially it's footage from the 360 and PS3 version, but since it's "the same game," the Wii shouldn't miss out on too many of the heart-beating battles in the above video.

Call of Duty 5: World at War starts to surface

Call of Duty is one of the biggest names in gaming today, and the hard-fightin' adventures of World War II soldiers just keep coming, ready for twitchy trigger-fingers to blast some baddies. The Wii had a taste of the action with Call of Duty 3, even though it couldn't match the super-fine graphics featured on the other consoles.

In development at Treyarch, Call of Duty 5: World at War is coming to all three consoles -- but this time, the Wii gets a bit more TLC. It's being developed by a separate team, although the graphics will be much more comparable between the different versions -- apparently running the COD4 engine on the Wii. That's no slouch, folks, as the COD4 engine was stunning.

We can expect vehicle and squad-based additions to the multiplayer, along with ZOMG! a full co-op mode. That's pretty hardcore, because this isn't your church-picnic Call of Duty. Apparently, the setting will be far "grittier" than anything we've seen in the series thus far, which means plenty of grizzled soldiers standing around looking badass with cigarettes, simultaneously getting their violent on. This all goes down in the Pacific theatre of WWII, where hectic battles were commonplace.

We want great games to be commonplace on the Wii, and COD5 is shaping up nicely. Stay tuned for more details as they arrive!

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows coming to Wii

Keep in mind, this is not the Wii version

Take note, webheads: a new Spidey game is being made for the Wii (along with those other systems nobody cares about). It's called Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and will once again feature the tried-and-true sandbox mechanic of a fully-explorable New York City. Other than that, we know that the game is being worked on by Treyarch and Shaba Games and will feature some kind of system that allows for customizable superpowers. Also, players will have some control in determining whether they want to be the boyscout do-gooder or a more selfish anti-hero type.

Perhaps even cooler than the news of there being a new game is word that Activision will be holding auditions for folks to do the voiceover work in the game at their booth at the upcoming New York Comic-Con. The winner will be determined by open voting, which will go down at the game's official website here.

Spidey 3 producer conducts video Q & A on game

Chris Archer, producer on the upcoming game based on the film Spider-Man 3, recently conducted another interview, this time with Gamespot. This interview is in video form and was taken during an event in San Francisco where the first game footage was shown. The interview talks about how Treyarch is looking to make everything bigger this time around (bigger environments, bigger dramatic moment, bigger boss battles etc.) and the difficulties of handling an IP with such an incredible fan base.

Chris also reveals that the game will have ten different possible story lines, with one being the actual movie story line. The game is slated for a May release on all major consoles.

Spidey 3 producer talks controls for Wii

Treyarch's last outing with your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man provided a great fan service in digitally recreating Manhatten and letting players swing about the city to their heart's content. The other stuff ... well, nobody really cared that much. Treyarch looks to recreate the fun of swinging about the city, but also provide more value to the gamer this time around. In speaking with IGN, they talked about the game across all platforms, providing a small glimpse into how it will control on the Wii.

Executive Producer Chris Archer reveals "The Wii controller, we literally use it to swing. Both hands. You're using it to swing and do web attacks and hand-to-hand combat and things like that. It seems really cool." Wow, that actually sounds like a lot of fun, wouldn't you say? Before, in Spider-Man 2, the web-slinging felt so good, maybe it'll even be more immersive and fun this time around. What say you all?

Massive Call of Duty 3 Wii video [update]

Finally, we've got something more visually stimulating than a screenshot to show on the game. With this long video, which is naturally embedded into the post after the break, you can get your Call of Duty 3 fix for a good 14 minutes. Highlights of the video include everything.

So what are you waiting for? Continue into the post and check it out!

Call of Duty 3 scans from Nintendo Power

A lengthy article in Nintendo Power centers around the upcoming Wii launch title and Treyarch-developed game Call of Duty 3. Set after the D-Day landings during the summer of 1944, Call of Duty 3 follows the Allied forces during the Normandy Breakout campaign.

While the recent news that the game will hold no inclusion of Wi-Fi gameplay is sad, to say the least, the focus on creating an excellent single-player experience will have to be good enough news during the interim to the game's release until we can all find out if our hope for a great game has been warranted. One thing is certain: the game definitely looks good.

More scans are included after the break.

Rumor: COD 3 to have 16 player battles online [Update]

Logo, kewl.
According to a forum post over at the official Nintendo boards, the latest issue of Game Informer will have a piece on Call of Duty 3 where it is said that online multiplayer for the game will feature 24 player matches via Xbox Live on the 360 and PS3 online for the PS3. The Wii, however, will support the lowered number of participants by allowing only up to 16 players to battle over Wi-Fi. Now, without a scan or any other kind of corroboration with the initial post, we're forced to chalk this up to rumor at the moment and will update you as news further develops.

[Update: Go Nintendo received word that the information is in fact in the magazine, but is a misprint. Instead, the grim truth is that the game will feature no online multiplayer support on the Wii. Thanks Marc!]

Wii to be Bondless until 2008

It's been known for quite some time that Activision snatched up the Bond gaming rights after EA, but nobody knew exactly when the company's first game based on the smooth-talking British agent would release. Well, now we know, and in 2008 we'll get our first taste of the new era of Bond games, which will be a title based on the second film to star the new Bond Daniel Craig. We aren't a movie blog by any stretch of the imagination, but we were fairly happy to hear that he would be taking over following some very good past films. Of course, we already knew which development studio would actually be responsible for this new Bond game. Treyarch, as we all know, is currently knee-deep in preparing Call of Duty 3, yet will take up the reigns for the 2008 game.

No announcement has been made in regards to what systems the game will be available for, but we're 95% sure it'll end up on the Wii.
